[digitalradio] CW Decoding Software

Adriano,

Unforunately none of the other free or fee

software on the market that can accuratley decode weak CW signals with QRN and
QSB present is the
http://www.polar-electric.com/Morse/MRP40-EN

[digitalradio] The dirty little secret behind ENCOM and WinLink

2006-02-26 Thread N6CRR
Reality

You have to stand back a bit from the roar of cheerleading for WinLink
to be seen as a part of ENCOM, rah rah the only meaningful part, to
see what the real secret behind interest or even promotion of WinLink
for ENCOM truly is.

It's radio Spectrum, or more correctly stated; access to RF Spectrum
without the troubles associated with having to put up with too many of
those unpredictable, unreliable, Amateur Radio operators by emergency
planners.

Why, here's WinLink, this fully automated, fully integrated system
that provides connectivity from your remote field networks to some
node outside of the disaster area, instant connectivity to the full
world. No learning about radios, no need for operators, and no
logistics issues with housing, feeding, training, or even counting on
those silly Amateur radio operators to show up. Heck, our Pimp, I mean
the ARRL BOD, is even working to insure we can encrypt your traffic so
you can comply with all sorts of real and imagined security issues and
legal issues.

Sad part, is that the WinLink guys are spot on correct with what they
are selling, and if I was working on preparing a disaster plan I'd
jump on it. Figure two person teams to set up the radio gear at a
field sites, two person team at EOC HQ, you're in business. Small
logistical footprint, high return on establishing connectivity by
moving people and equipment into disaster zone, EOC's can be
pre-positioned and activated during build up to disaster by the way.

I'm not saying the above scenario is bad per se, it would just be
better for the ARRL BOD to propose models of disaster relief
operations for use of Amateurs, both as human resources, and as owners
of valuable spectrum resources, and do it publicly. Some won't like
the proposals, but an open debate on this topic would go a long way to
selling it than some of the RAH RAH Cheerleading, and phony baloney
efforts like RM-11306 to sneak it in.

I have downloaded your programs and taken one look each time to find
that it would not support my needs. I need to have one sound card for
input and another for output. This is easily done if you just open the
windows default sound device rather than a specific sound card. I hope
that you will add this possibility to a future release.

GEE...I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT NOTICED THIS LAST NIGHT !!!
 A QUOTE FROM ANOTHER REFLECTOR.

W1AW has decided to break the ARRL's own bandplan and
 operate on 1807.5.

I have a big problem with this. DXers do not own 160. They
can bend a little bit. The ARRL also sets a terrible
example. In one breath they open claim bandplans work, in
the next breath they move W1AW to a frequency in direct
violation of their own bandplan. This is just like when W1AW
operated a SSB contest, and W1AW was working local stations
on SSB below 1840. How can the ARRL claim bandplans work,
and then ignore their own bandplans?

Apparently it is OK for the ARRL and DX'ers to tell others
one thing, and then do exactly the opposite themselves.
Either that or they simply cannot think logically about
how their actions appear to others. The ARRL appears to be
trying to sabotage the very bandplan they claim makes
 mandatory mode restrictions unnecessary!

[digitalradio] Station for Sale

2006-02-26 Thread David G. Green (WA2IAM)
Now I know why I didn't mind giving up ham radio for a career and
raising a family back in the seventies...
The pettiness and slander and arguments among hams that I use to hear
on SSB are now on this media, and to no one's benefit except maybe the
hams making the comments.. Why do a few hams feel the need to use this
media for subjects in which the majority of digital radio hams have no
interest.

Re: [digitalradio] PSK31 and Rascal Box

2006-02-26 Thread Leigh L Klotz, Jr.
Try a Tigertronics or build your own vox (Ramsey has a $10 PCB). Just
fix your computer not to use the sound card for beeps and boops. The
Griffin iMic USB sound puck works FB on Linux, Mac, and Windows as a
second sound card.

[digitalradio] Sick of flapping lips.........

2006-02-26 Thread John Bradley

The sad part of it is , is that Andy set up another
reflector for the "amateur lawyer's" use, called digi policy or something like
that.

Instead, this group seems to feel that the
rest of us enjoy hearing the endless inane arguments, the petty hairsplitting,
and the
complete lack of any open minded discussion on any
subject.

Myeasy solution is to put them, one by one ,
on the blocked sender list, which moves their messages directly to the trash
bin.
This gets rid of most of the QRM.

Andyhas triedto run a decent reflector,
and every once in awhile there are some true "gems of wisdom" which filter
through all the
B.S. , which makes remaining a member worthwhile.

Andy, if you had any gumption, you would punt this
noise off here and over to where all the arguments belong.

[digitalradio] Re: Sick of flapping lips.........

2006-02-26 Thread tg6124
Have you read the description of the group? It does not
say restricted to technical topics only.

You have a right to give your opinion to Andy but your
characterization of legitimate discussion as flapping lips pretty
much tells us where you stand as far as making the Amateur Service
better from an *operational* point of view as well as from a protocol
technique point of view.

Operational uses of digital modes is NOT politics, at least not in
my opinion. If Andy wants to restrict discussions to technical topics
only he can. But he should change the group discussion to say that.
Otherwise discussions on operational techniques, advantages,
disadvantages, etc. will continue to crop up.

Maybe YOU don't want to hear that but many do - e.g. the guy
wondering about how best to operate a digital net.

[digitalradio] Re: Linux Packet

2006-02-26 Thread tg6124
Have you looked in the AX25-HOWTO? I think it tells you in there how
to use the sound card modem software that is built into the linux
kernel as part of the AX-25 module.

You'll need a terminal program that will link to an ax port in linux.
Give me a while and I'll come up with something. I just can't
remember the name of the program right now.

If that doesn't help you come back and I'll try to find something
else.

For a linux terminal program try linkt, rcom, or tnt. One of those
should work for you. I used linkt for a long time and it worked fine.
