I am sure we have all seen PSK31 signals that produce harmonics ,
of sorts, at 1000 Hz intervals. I usually see them 1000Hz up
from the main signal but tonight I saw one 1000 Hz DOWN, only.
What would determine whether the harmonic is up versus down the
waterfall dial ?

[digitalradio] Re: The microHAM DIGI KEYER -- MISSING?

> Full features and specifications are available at:

The link above is broken and dumps one off to a
http://billing.qth.com/404.php URL for some odd
reason.

There is no reference to a "DIGI KEYER" on the
main page: www.microHAM-USA.com

Has the device been withdrawn for some reason
or have Internet gremlins been at it again?

[digitalradio] Re: PSK harmonics?

2006-03-30 Thread jhaynesatalumni
I have also encountered non-harmonic spurious tones from time to time.

First time was a friend running a TS-440 on RTTY. As RF output was
increased there would be a spurious tone come on in addition to the
AFSK he was intentionally transmitting. He was able to get rid of it
by connecting the radio and the computer to different power outlets
in the house.

Second time was with my own TS-940 when putting in AFSK through the mike
jack, and with a club TS-930 doing the same thing. In both cases the
spurious tone came on only as power was increased. I cured both of them
by putting an isolation transformer in the audio going to the radio,
and by keeping the microphone ground separate from the main ground - in
Kenwood radios there are separate leads in the mic plug for the two
grounds.

Just a few nights ago I observed such a spur on someone's signal and
told him about it.

So I have become a firm believer in using an isolation transformer in
the audio input to the mike jack on Kenwood radios. Don't know
about other radios or about going through the back panel audio
input.

I have suffered with prospective software releases in
the past only to have the associated hardware sit on
the shelf. Will await the release of a fully functional
Linux app.

In the meanwhile I would be interested to learn if anyone
has read the voice-to-text for digital modes article in
the current QST and used it with mH-DK?

It would be interesting to learn if voice-to-text generated
digital text will work OK.
