HI John: It doesn't matter where we try and use the band ,, pactor comes on right on top of us without listening anyway.. thats the way it has alway work and always will..  I would like to see all automatic stations, stuck down in the courner of bands and then they can all transmit on top of each other. Or how about I set my rig to transmit Olivia 1000hz at about 1 min intervals to CQ all day and night long right in the middle of the pactor stations???  Or how about the pactor station GET A CONTROL OPERATOR!! to see that they are not tranmiting on top of someone.. What a revelation.. Courtesy to other stations that are  already in a QSO... After being drowned out by several packet stations while I'm in a QSO, I have taken to snapping a digital picture, with callsign and sending it to the FCC, so they can see where a autopacket station comes right on top of QSO's in progress (PSK,MFSK, etc).. Do I expect anything to be
done?? No..  But I can dream..     Garrett AA0OI John Bradley <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Can anyone explain WHY we keep trying to run nets, make contacts etc in a portion of the band which has long been used for automatic pactor stations?     Have been making more than a few contacts, mostly OLIVIA,  using the portion of the band right above 14070, like 14073 and up...     John VE5MU

This unit (http://www.thinkgeek.com/stuff/41/wec.shtml) might work well with this mode and you can move your station outside on nice days and not need an extension cord.

Just received this and thought I would pass it along, looks like a new one
to play around with!  Software is available from my site (see below).

Announcing a new digital mode that uses the sound card of your PC.  This one
is DUSK-A1. developed by Walter DU1SK.  DUSK has some fundamental
differences from the other digital modes (PSK, MFSK Olivia, etc) in that this mode
has been developed primarily for the low bands (80 and 160) with an emphasis
on grey-line propagated signals. DUSK-AI takes advantage of  AMI- Alternate
Mark Inversion .  Many digital hams will already be aware that AMI has a
12.5% density minimum.  The reduced density minimum of DUSK-A1 creates a
more tolerable AOA, or Angle of Arrival
A position identification technology that detects the direction of a signal
received from a transmitter at only one point. In this system, the
transmitter's location is determined from the receivers' antenna position
and the AOA of the signals that are from the antennas. In practical terms,
grey-line like conditions are  created regardless of the actual position of
the sun.

DUSK-A1 grey line performance, and sun position irrelevance ,  is also
enhanced  by the inclusion of CTA. Continuous Time Oversampling  A technique
that simplifies the job of synchronizing data generated from disparate
sampling rates. The technique resamples and synchronizes audio data as
needed, and it eliminates the substrate noise and feedthrough problems.

The beta version of DUSK-A1 also includes Enhanced Data Rates for Global
Evolution  an enhanced radio modulation technique for GSM and TDMA
(ANSI-136) networks that expands radio timeslots . The expanded time slots
also factor in enhanced daylight propagation , especially on 160 meters.
When combined with GPRS, it gives a maximum performance with narrow
bandwidth.

The software does not have full macro features or logging components as yet.
Those wishing to test this new mode may download the free software at
DUSK-A1 from http://www.obriensweb.com/dusk.htm

Doc, I was so happy with how Olivia handled the QRM that I pressed my print
screen button to capture the visual evidence. Alas, when I went to paste
the captured imagine into my image editing software, the image had not been
captured...I lost the evidence. I am not very knowledgeable about Olivia's
QRM handling ability but I know that it appears to be better than PSK, RTTY,
the PC-ALE data standard , PAX2, Feld Hell, and Throb. I have not directly
observed how MFSK16 and DominoEX handle PACTOR QRM.

Your second question is a good one, I am not sure how PACTOR handles QRM
that is very close in frequency. Perhaps W0JAB or other here can offer some
thoughts on this? As someone mentioned earlier, I should make sure I am not
in the general vicinity of unattended stations so that I can avoid the
clash.The station I worked was on 14108 .6, DJ2CV

[digitalradio] Sick Feld Hell Tones in MixW

2006-04-03 Thread Andrew O'Brien
Can someone listen to the brief mp3 file at

http://www.obriensweb.com/hell.mp3

Something is very "odd" sounding with my Feld Hell tones in Mixw,
whereas in Muptipsk the tones sound good to me. Same audio settings
in the soundcard.

The audio file starts with Multipsk tones, then after the 3 seconds of
silence the MixW Feld Hell tones start. The tones are recorded via
PC mic near my PC speakers, hence the slight variation in volume
levels.

A couple of the people I have worked with MixW Hell say my tones sound
fine at their end but I get a lot of no answers when using MixW Hell
versus Hell in Multipsk.

Hi Andy,

The first tones sound fine; about what I am used to hearing on the
air or when monitoring my own transmissions...the second set seems
clipped or over-driven...is it merely a difference of drive levels
between Multipsk and MixW??

Am sure others more with more knowledge can comment with more detail..

The drive level for the two programs is exactly the same. The MixW
sick tones do not change even if I lower the drive level.. At the
same drive level in MixW all other modes have good sounding tones.
Only Hell sound this bad.
