Hi Ian

nice to see you on here from the left coast :)

Question: what are you currently using to run RTTY with your 746pro? If you are
running a sound card version of RTTY then all you need would
be the appropraite software. Good place to start looking is MultiPSK which is
available as a download from

http://f6cte.free.fr/index_anglais.htm

Be pleased to help you get started ina really interesting side of our hobby

Greetings Ian. Just to give my 2 cents worth here, its easy to get
confused, so I'd stick with info for the most popular one which is
PSK31. Here is the eham web site where Hams critique different

[digitalradio] Re: Audio Output

2007-02-28 Thread scottbomb
This is what I do with my computer/IC-706 setup. Most likely, the sound
output from the computer is stereo (I've never seen a mono out on a
comp.) but you can use a mono plug and it will send 1 channel to the
radio. A 1:1 isolation transformer between the 2 is recommended. I run
the audio from the radio to the comp. through the mic. input.

I would like to use a simple splitter cable on the output, one to the

Will this likely cause a problem using Fldigi or PSKMail?

It should be said that your link was to an HRD review site although there
is a PSK31 program included with HRD called PSK31 Deluxe...For PSK31 you
will also want to look at Digipan http://www.digipan.net/ or Hamscope
http://www.qsl.net/hamscope/HamScope.html since its a little more basic
to begin with?...I have run PSK31 for a few years but it takes time to
figure out all these new modes...Confusion is normal...Heck I have been a
ham for 22 years and never run RTTY...I loved HF packet but the band has
been bad and I'm out in Montana and signals haven't been good for some
time...I'm getting around to listen to some ALE if I can find it and
figure it out...:)

RE: [digitalradio] Re: Audio Output

2007-02-28 Thread DuBose Walt Civ AETC CONS/LGCA
Yes, that's what I am going to do...and use VOX to start with until I build an
optoisolator PTT circuit.

Here is a strange unexpected occurrance...I connected the audio output from the
IC-746PRO's ACC1 plug to the soundcard line input and when not running Fldigi,
I can hear the received audio through the speakers connected to the sound card.
If I tunr on monitoring, I can hear my transmit signal.

However, when I run Fldigi, I can't hear the Fldigi transmit tones as I do if
the receiver is not connected to the line input. Hi Hi.

I would NOT advise a MONO plug on a line output. It short circuits the
right channel to ground (no ring, just tip and sleeve) and I don't know
how resistant a line output is to a short circuit (infinite SWR ? 8-) ).

Get a STEREO plug and use only tip and sleeve. Is what I use here.

I use a MONO plug on the line INPUT.

A 1:1 isolation transformer between the 2 is recommended.

Well, I am using a 10 k ohms to 600 ohms transformer for line output to
the mic input, and it works just fine, since it has to attenuate the
signals and up to 1 volt from the soundcard will hardly saturate the
transformer primary (an old small plate to line transformer for a triode
from the junkbox).

Most solid state preamps love low input impedances, and will give the
best SNR that way.

Those are edges to get clean radiated signals and elephant ears.

I guess not, if it does not become an RFI entry point. It would be a
sort fo a Y cable, feeding the speakers with a derivation to the
isolation transformer from the left channel (tip and sleeve).

I am feeding my speakers from the rear left and right channels.

Will this likely cause a problem using Fldigi or PSKMail?

I have not used PSKmail. With FLDIGI and GMFSK, my setup works.

[digitalradio] Icom X3?

2007-02-28 Thread Tony
All:

It looks like the new Icom X3 is intended for the
commecial market, but while looking at a photo of
the rig, I noticed it has a built-in PSK decoder
like the IC7800.

Assuming it is a PSK31 decoder, and not some other
commercial mode, it seems strange to offer it on a
commercial transceiver.

See it here:
