[digitalradio] New amazing JT65-HF

2009-03-16 Thread Andrew O'Brien
I was able to see JT65-HF V1.0 in action tonight. This software is so well
designed that I expect it to become the "app" of choice for HF JT65 operators,
especially new operators . It makes my Bozo's Guide to JT65A totally obsolete
! This software is by Joe W6CQZ , check for information about public releases
(hopefully soon) at w6cqz.org

[digitalradio] First WINMOR/PACLINK connection

2009-03-16 Thread Andrew O'Brien
FYI, progress is being maintained with the WINMOR project. The author (Rick
Muething KN6KB ) completed some tests today where he connected and sent email
using paclink and Winmor. The transmission was only across his bench from one
radio to another, but it is another good sign. Look for possible WINMOR
signals on HF, perhaps in a week or two. Still mainly Alpha tests, I would
guess that it is a few more months before it becomes a "regular" part of the
Winlink system

[digitalradio] New release (4.13) of MULTIPSK

2009-03-16 Thread Patrick Lindecker
New release (4.13) of MULTIPSK

Pour les francophones: la version française de ce message se trouve sur mon
site (http://f6cte.free.fr). Il suffit de cliquer sur le lien "Principales
modifications (courriel avertissant de la sortie de la nouvelle version)".

Hello to all Ham and SWL,

The new release of MultiPSK (4.13) is on my Web site (http://f6cte.free.fr).
The main mirror site is Earl's, N8KBR: http://www.eqth.info/multipsk/index.html
(click on "United States Download Site").
Another mirror site isTerry's: http://g90swl.co.uk/multipsk/

Multispk associated to Clock are freeware programs but with functions submitted
to a licence (by user key).

The Multidem 2.2.2 fixes several bugs.

The main modifications of MULTIPSK 4.13 are the following:

1) I/Q direct interface via the sound card, for SdR transceivers

An I/Q demodulator/modulator (RX/TX) is now directly integered to Multipsk.
This one permits to receive on a 48, 96 or 192 KHz KHz bandwidth (-96 to 96
KHz) any USB or LSB transmission.

>From the SdR waterfall, the user will select the desired bandwidth which will
>be transfered to the main waterfall where possible digital transmissions in
>USB or LSB will be decoded.

The transmission will be done on the same frequency that the one selected for
reception.

To remotly control this demodulator/modulator, it is added specific TCP/IP SdR
commands ("SDR_SPECTRUM ?", "SDR_SF [Sampling Frequency in Hz]" (48000, 96000
or 192000), "SDR_FR [Frequency in Hz]", "SDR_MODE [Mode]" (Mode: "USB" or
"LSB"), "SDR_VFO [VFO]" (VFO: "A" or "B")). See "Multipsk client" version 6.

2) 200 to 3800 Hz panoramics on 36 channels

The BPSK31/BPSK63/PSKFEC31/CW/RTTY panoramics can, from now, decode from 200 to
3800 Hz instead of 200 to 2500 Hz. This function needs a powerful PC and a
screen which height is superior or equal to 768 pixels.

3) KISS mode through TCP/IP available for Packet and Pax/Pax2.

The JNOS 2.0 system (from Maiko VE4KLM) can be interfaced, in Packet, to
Multipsk working as a digital modem.

For complete details and instructions, visit the link below :
http://www.langelaar.net/projects/jnos2/multipsk

For a presentation of JNOS: http://www.nyc-arecs.org/JNOS_Primer.pdf

4) New macro to be used, for example, to regularly transmit
meteorogical data of your town. For details, see "Macros" in the index of the
help manual.

Have also been added (Clears RX window) and (Clears TX window).

5) Improvements of APRS. Among them:

* possibility to export decoded APRS Packet frames (and also PAX/PAX2 frames
for long distances APRS transmissions) to one of the many Internet APRS-IS
servers (TKS to Pete AE5PL),

* possibility to decode positions coming from the APRS-IS server and, then, to
display them on the map,

* the APRS messages acknowledgment is now managed.

Hint: on the map, the red dot is your position, bluedots are positions coming
from the APRS-IS server, black dots are decoded positions from HF or VHF.

6) Transmission of an acoustic message inside a digital QSO

It is permitted to switch from the digimode to the "Filters" DSP mode (to
transmit an acoustic message) using the combination of keys ( and
) or the key.

Note: this function must be only used in the HF frequencies where digital QSOs
and phone QSOs are both authorized.

Note about translation of Multipsk.exe and Clock .exe: the 4.12 version of
Multipsk/Clock has been completly translated to Spanish by Joachin (EA4ZB),
from French. The translation file is on my Web site (http://f6cte.free.fr).

possible.

DATE: March 21st
TIME: Z - 2400Z
MODES: All modes of Hell are allowed
BANDS: All non-WARC bands are allowed
EXCHANGE: RST, FH #, QTH (ONLY NEED TO GIVE GIVE COUNTRY UNLESS YOU ARE IN A
U.S. TOWN WITH A EUROPEAN COUNTRY NAME.)

POINTS (PLEASE READ - THEY ARE DIFFERENT THIS MONTH):
5 points for your first Hell QSO in each of the European DXCC entities. The
complete list can be found at
http://sites.google.com/site/feldhellclub/Home/contests

2 points for each subsequent Hell QSO with that entity.

2 points for your first QSO on each band with WW1FHC, the club callsign which
will be operated by the February Sprint winner Art, WA7NB (see
http://sites.google.com/site/feldhellclub/Home/contests for Art's tentative
schedule of times & bands of operation)

3 points for your first QSO with a ham in a United States town, village, or
city that has the same name as a European country (ex: Norway, IL). The

Re: [digitalradio] Re: New modes or old modes?

2009-03-16 Thread Rick W
We have been very fortunate to have Tony, K2MO's detailed lab testing to
figure out which modes work under different conditions and it has been
surprising, and actually a bit disappointing, because most digital modes
can only tolerate a small amount of ISI and Doppler.

I recently thought of coming up with a list of the different modes and
how much they could tolerate but the list is so short. A number of modes
will work with significant SNR when conditions are pristine, but as Tony
showed, once you have even 2 ms of ISI or 1 Hz of Doppler at a test
point of -8 SNR, MFSK16 and Olivia 500/16 seem to be the main modes that
keep working. And this includes even worse conditions with 3ms/10 Hz,
and 6 ms/10 Hz. He even found 20 wpm CW to be iffy under some of the
more difficult conditions.

At 7 ms/30 Hz at -3dB (not -8 dB) it was CW 20 wpm and Olivia 500/16 and
500/8.

This explains why you sometimes don't have good print on a number of
modes, yet it seems like a reasonably good signal. Some modes, such as
Domino and THOR were supposed to handle severe ISI, but they don't seem
to be able to work well under Tony's tests, even under the lightest
amount of ionospheric disturbance. Maybe some one can explain that?

If our sunspot situation really is a Maunder Minimum wouldn't that be
interesting not.

Rick, KV9U
