Hi Alan,

Please join the pskmail mailing list, much better signal/noise ratio there ;-).
Its at http://www.freelists.org/list/pskmail

I cannot be certain what your problem is but please make sure you are using
10.148 as center frequency, that could mean 10.147 and usb on the dial and 1000
Hz cursor/offset in fldigi. That way the psk will land on 10.148 and most
servers use sharp filters so frequency setting is very important. Most servers
use PSK250 now but have a look at the wiki where servers list how they are
working: http://pskmail.wikispaces.com

I have a USB audio headset (mic/speakers). The audio quality from it seems to
be good.
I do not use them that much anymore, so was thinking of maybe getting into
them and converting them to use with my TS-480's digital socket.
I think it will be simple enough to get into them and convert to the
mini-plug for the radio.

Thanks Simon,

Will not proceed with it then.

BTW, must go and check for an update on HRD, my main control and Digital

I have a couple of headsets with separate USB sound card emulators. They do
work with MULTIPSK, Mix-W, FLDIGI and IZ8BLY's MT-63. Have not done comparison
tests, but I do use one simultaneous with a Realtek sound card for montitoring
different radios and modes with one computer.

Hi All,

I have a quick question, below.

I have a USB audio headset (mic/speakers). The audio quality from it seems to
be good.
I do not use them that much anymore, so was thinking of maybe getting into them
and converting them to use with my TS-480's digital socket.
I think it will be simple enough to get into them and convert to the mini-plug
for the radio.

Okay, has anyone done this before?
Was it easy enough and how well did it work for you?

If no one has done it, I am going to give it a try and then post my comments.
Might try and see if any comments on quality might come from this group if I am
heard.

Regards

Kevin, ZL1KFM.

[digitalradio] Fw: [InHam] Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM), ET Docket 09-36

2009-04-03 Thread Paul Webster
Hi All,

I read the article about the medical device using UHF, it said that
there would be extra precautions taken to reject unwanted signals from
outside sources.

Thats all fine good, if it works.

My concern is what happens when a patient who has this technology
installed in his/her body is exposed to a strong UHF signal
something goes wrong?

I would not want to key up have some body start having
uncontollable involuntary movement /or the lack of proper movement
of a limb that could cause them to have an accident that results in
injury /or death.

I am not so worried about interferrence from a device like this, because the
power level would be so low.

They are probably using somesort of digital mode anyway I don't think that it
would be on all the time.

I am glad that they are working on ways to help people that have physical
problems.

But this is something that we should keep an eye on.

Anytime anyone wants to use any of our bands for a non amateur radio purpose is
always cause for concern.
Thanks for the soap box.

FYI

On
March 20, the FCC released a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM), ET
Docket 09-36, which proposes a medical micro-power network service
(MMNS) using four 6-MHz wide channels in the 413-457 MHz range.

One specific band, 420-450 MHz, is problematic for Amatuer Radio Operators,
because it includes the 70cm band.

This micro-power service would use implanted neuromuscular stimulators that
would communicate using the bands listed above.

See the attached file; notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM), ET Docket 09-36

Thanks Mike - I asked West Mountain to address the concerns expressed by
others on the e-Ham website equipment reviews. West Mountain has been VERY
good with sending me information, addressing the specific concerns mentioned
on e-Ham and giving me specifics on the TS-820S connection. They did mention
being cautious about connecting the isolated CW output into the Ts820S. They
are concerned about the negative voltage (-65volts) keying on the old
Kenwood . they said it may exceed the optical isolator capability. So I was
hoping that another user might have plugged in another Kenwood 820 into the
Duo. Do you know if your 850 or 870 has negative voltage keying?

[digitalradio] Weekend ALE400 network test April 4; All welcome

2009-04-03 Thread Andrew O'Brien
If you hear a few strange noises on the HF this weekend, it may be the ALE400
tests. I am an old ALE MIL-STD 141 fan but some people that the narrower
version of ALE, ALE400 , in Multipsk may do some things better. So I am
encouraging people with Multipsk to give ALE400 a try. Here is the message
that went to the aleradio and multipsk Yahoogroups

Here is my suggestion for a weekend ALE400 Network development test.

As many people as possible scan and sound during the following times
stating UTC 4 April

-0200 UTC

0600-0800 UTC

1200-1400 UTC

1800-2000 UTC

-0200 April 5

If you can only scan and sound for a part of the above times, that would be OK.

I would encourage 15 second soundings , no more than twice per hour
per band Perhaps Europe could sound close to the top of the hour and
North America towards the bottom of the hour. Other parts of the
world around 15 or 45 from the hour. Listen first, pause if frequency busy!

I will suggest 3589.0, 7037.5, 10141.5, 14074.0, 14094.0, 18104.5 as
the frequencies , 1625 as the center (so people do not have to change
software to other center frequency). You will need to get in to the
OPTIONS area of ALE within Multipsk to enter in the 3589.0, 7037.5,
10141.5, 14074.0, 14094.0, 18104.5 in place of the other ALE
frequencies.

Comments ?
