[digitalradio] NOSintro -- TCP/IP over Packet Radio is back on the web

2009-05-22 Thread Ian Wade
Hello all.

Following the resurgence of interest in NOS for emergency
communications, particularly in the nos-bbs mailing list
(https://www.tapr.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/nos-bbs), and requests
from individuals enquiring about the book NOSintro, I have now
re-posted the NOSintro web site:

~~
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/wadei/nosintro/nosintro.htm
~~

This is broadly as the site first appeared around 15 years ago (!), with
many of the book's 35 chapters reproduced in full. I plan to post the
remaining chapters as time allows.

Please note that the book NOSintro has been out of print for many
years, and I don't have any spare copies. I have no plans to have it
reprinted in its present form.

Hi All,

Tony sent me a fine set of wave files so I'll be able to do what I need to
do.

As Patrick mentioned, the RSID is very sensitive. Multipsk was able to
detect the ID down to -25db with the HF path simulator PathSim.

Sounds like a NOMIC from West Mountain. Maybe you can check their web site too.

I changed nothing on my radio to use mine with PSK.

I have an interface here for my FT1000MP.
2 - DIN plugs, one marked RTTY, the other packet.
And 2 wires going to the sound card, sone marked peaker out,
and the other mic input. Plus a cable going from the serial port to the
 computer.
Do I need to access the radio menu and change anything to get this to
 transmit?

 Thanks,

Re: [digitalradio] Interface

2009-05-22 Thread Bob/Chris
Jerry,

Perhaps it is an interface made by Donner. I have 2 of them. Mine has 2 audio
cables, the black one for connection to the line input for receive and the red
one for audio out from the computer. It has a nine pin din for serial
connection for rig control and the connector for either the Kenwood TS570 or
Yaesu FT857D.

So maybe this won't work with my Yaesu?

  Acording to the FT1000MP manual:
Packet DIN plug is for external TNC, RTTY DIN jack is for RTTY terminal unit.

Anyone know what that seemingly never ending warble is around 3.582 tonight?
It's fairly wide, around 300-400 hz wide...sort of a slow warble.

[digitalradio] Connectors

2009-05-22 Thread mhz14071
Off topic, however I need some help with my connectors.
I have my station connectorized with power poles and a Rigrunner distribution
pannel.
I find that with the Red and Black pair on the supply end and the corresponding
Red and Black pair on the load end, it is possible to
short circuit the powersupply if the connector pair is displaced to the left or
right.
I have tried using a -one up one down- of the tabs on the front of the
conncctor pair to form a key, but when this is done on one end, the
corresponding end cannot be configured in a matching manner because of the
connector shell shows two tongues, where they shold be a tongue and a groove,
therefore this connector pair cannot be mated together.
I immagine I could remove the tongues and use super glue to hold one pair of
connectors together. Does any one have any ideas or a better solution as to how
I can solve this problem.

2009-05-22 Thread frankk2ncc
Dave, were you in LSB at the time?

Reason I ask, if you centered that signal on USB it would 3k up from your LSB
frequency, being about 3.585.

Assuming USB, that area is near a QRZ frequency* for ALE (automatic link
establishment.) It's wider and seems to fit your description.

Check out a vid I created and uploaded to YOUTUBE.com:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cK_FGdu83s

... and let us know if that might be it. Intriguing mode and hope to use more
of it.

Just a little detective work here, so I could be wrong, but certainly love the
hunt!
