[digitalradio] Colorado QSO Party - Sep 5th / 6th
From: Leslie Varnicle wa3...@qwest.net Sent: Thursday, September 03, 2009 11:03 AM Subject: Colorado QSO Party - Sep 5th / 6th We'll be on from Saguache (sue-watch) County at the UFO watchtower Saturday at least. Will be on 40M, 20M and higher bands if open on or around the calling frequencies. Bill, you might want to pass the word as this county is rare in CO. Leslie -Original Message- From: ARRL CO Section The Colorado QSO Party is this coming weekend. Times are 1200 UTC 5 September 2009 until 0400 UTC 6 September 2009 (6AM to 10PM MDT). This is a fun event that has been gaining popularity each year- and this year appears to be no exception judging by the chatter on several email reflectors. Whether you are an experienced contester, an occasional participant, or new to QSO Party events, this is the time to fire up that rig and help put Colorado on the air! All HF bands (excluding WARC), VHF and UHF are eligible for QSOs and points. For more info including rules and awards, see the Colorado QSO Party web page at: http://www.ppraa.org/coqp/ 73, ARRL Colorado Section Section Manager: Jeff Ryan, K0RM k...@arrl.org

[digitalradio] First TAPR President Packet Radio Pioneer, KD2S SK [1 Attachment]
http://www.arrl.org/?artid=9159 Den Connors, KD2S (SK) (Sep 3, 2009) -- The first president of Tucson Amateur Packet Radio (TAPR) Den Connors, KD2S, of Pepperell, Massachusetts, passed away September 3 from lymphoma. He was 58. Connors, an ARRL Life Member, conducted the first amateur packet radio contact with all-American hardware and software, using the Tucson Amateur Packet Radio Terminal Node Controller (TNC) with Lyle Johnson, WA7GXD (now KK7P), at 9:12 PM (PST) on June 25, 1982. The tests were conducted at 146.55MHz, with both stations sending plain-text ASCII messages. Den was instrumental in the early PACSAT work, and as TAPR's first president, led that organization from a local club he co-founded into an international organization, Johnson said in an e-mail. His was a very cheerful, positive, can-do influence. [digitalradio] Standard ALE Peek-A-Boo Weekend
I've gone back to using standard ALE , as opposed to ALE 400 this weekend. I think ALE 400 is really good but standard ALE has more active users and is still a communication method that I think more hams should try. So, two things this weekend... 1. Try to find me, K3UK. One superb aspect of ALE is the ability to find another station even though you may not know which bands are open or they are actually on. I am QRV this weekend on all common HFLINK/ALE data channels. I am not talking about simply hearing me, I am talking about you transmitting and connecting with me. You do not need to actually hear me to try a standard ALE connect. 2. I have activated the ambush command in PC-ALE for certain stations well know to this Yahoo Group. That means that my software is listening for certain callsigns, if it hears them it will issue an automatic connect transmission. So, get QRV with ALE this weekend on common standard ALE frequencies and find out if you are in my ambush list -- Andy
