[digitalradio] Re: Navigator interface

2008-08-25 Thread Don Sachnoff
Interesting commentary regarding problems with the Navigator. I have had a
Navigator for about 18 months. I have used it with the 756P3 and now with the
7700 and no problems what so ever. I caution that RTFM is a must and the
instructions are pretty straight forward. Interestingly I helped a fellow ham
who was having all sorts of issiues with his Navigator and the 7700. Once I
saw a screen shot of the display it seem quite obvious to me the program was
being overdriven from the navigator. I sent him a screen shot of what I was
seeing on the display (psk) and it was like night and day. He backed off the
drive from the navigator and it appears he is happy with the results. There
are a lot of things that come into play and perhaps the most important one is
patience and sometimes common sense.

Danny

You are probably right, however, I am firewalled - using a PIX 501 - and
have a number of ACLs set to really limit any access from the outside
world.

[digitalradio] RE: Virus check ?

2005-09-09 Thread Don Sachnoff
Depending on the version of antivirus software you are using, you need
to go out to the antivirus software website at least once a week for
updates for the signature file. In fact, several weeks ago Symantec put
out four updates in one week. Running a scan of your pc should also be
done daily. I schedule my antivirus software to go out to Symantec
daily to see if there is an update. Usually Symantec updates their
signature files on Wednesday afternoon and sometimes more often
depending on what has shown up on the internet. This week they released
a signature file dated 9/7 (Wednesday) and then released another one
dated 9/8. In addition, I have Symantec antivirus setup to run a full
scan after hours every day - I leave my pc up 24x7. You can not be too
safe given the different payloads being used to deliver viruses. I also
use Spybot Search and Destroy which is used for spyware detection - it
is freeware. It is also scheduled to run daily.

So remember even if you do scan your pc with antivirus software, if you
are not updating the signature file regularly, the antivirus software
will not do what you expect it to do - provide a measure of protection.

Jose is absolutely correct is stating:
No, once and again. It is someone that has YOUR address and is sending
infected mails using your address.

In addition, what usually happens with these viruses is that they grab
the address book of the infected pc and then send out infected emails to
all listed in the address book. All this is done without the infected
pc's users knowledge.
