2006-09-19 Thread Rein Couperus PA0R
OK Walt, of course you are right... It is nice to have an arq mode
available also for keyboarding. But I would prepare a complete document
with the editor before sending it:)
The pskmail k-to-k mode has not been tested properly, and should be
regarded as experimental. But first tests have shown that it matches
PSK31 typing speed, and will deliver the text unmutilated. Unless AMTOR
ARQ, which did not have a 0% error guarantee.
Pskmail uses a CRC-16 for each segment. It is nice to have to type your
text only once even if the QSO is being jammed...
I will not put time into jazzing up the user interface until people
start using it (which may take a lot of time as nobody likes stuff that
is free).

Why is this? The conditions I operate under, when I use a data chat mode,
I need 100% or near 100% error transmissions because of the nature of the
information I am sending. If it is not received correctly, schedules could
be missed causing loss of evacuation or instructions could be missed causing
 loss of life.

While, as you say, normally ham radio traffic doesn't need to be error free,
there are instances when it does. Therefore I would think that we would want
to build modes that were 100% error free if possible so that they could be
 used in a worst-case scenario.

RE: [digitalradio] PSKmail

2006-09-19 Thread Rein Couperus PA0R
The main Pskmail frequency is 10.148 kHz. In Europe you will find the
servers of SM0RWO and PI4TUE there. Mode is PSK63, beacons on xx:00 and
xx:03. The servers run 24/24.

You may be able to hear the beacon of SM0RWO, who has the best
antenna/power combination..

At the moment I can also see servers connected in Vancouver and Corinth,
Tennessee, but it is unknown what frequencies they are using at the
moment.

Re: [digitalradio] 30M tonight

2006-03-29 Thread Rein Couperus PA0R
It must be he time of day...

I have had a PSK63 pskmail link from my winter qth, a trailer park near
Valencia, Spain, with SM0RWO in Stockholm for 2 months (January 15 to
March 15) using a mobile setup with a fishing rod and 10 meters of wire
on an RV. The distance was 1300 miles.

The link quality on 10148 was excellent, signals ranging from S0 to S9.
The link was usable from 8:00 until sometimes 23:00 local time, and was
only hampered by pactor2/3 qrm and heavy splatter from the packet aprs
channel on 1049.2. I used 20 Watts during the day time to send my aprs
beacon via pskmail, and 80 Watts for mail when I had to work through
pactor qrm.

Using PSK31 you should have an easy shot on 30, also in the evening
hours.
