2009-05-02 Thread Marc PD4U

If you are wondering what digital mode to choose (scotty 1, scotty 2, martin 1,
etc), then it is regular pratice to reply in the mode a station calls or
replies to you. The scotty 1/2 and Martin 1/2 are mainly used and differ in
time [somewhat less or more then a minute] and thus in quality.

In busy/QRM situations it sometimes helps to go faster, and for instance use
B/W 8, that only takes 8 sec. If you receive only faint signals it is better to
use the modes that take more time like martin 1 [114 sec], scotty 1 [110 sec]or
even scotty DX [269 sec]

[digitalradio] Re: Solar Cycle 23 Sunspot Group Re-emerges

2009-05-02 Thread Marc PD4U

Even with further empiric data for a century of two, we still "jump to
conlusions" [D. Hume 1711 – 1776]

Beside that past global coolings or ice ages were probably not dependent for
their arisal on one factor solely. In this case: the number of sunspots

But is the solar minimum the (only necessary and sufficient) explaining factor
for a global cooling?

As we say in Holland "One swallow doesn't make it summer" meaning: one cannot
'jump to conclusions' based on unsufficient data, and beside that the swallow
is not the explaining factor for summer to arise, but a result of it.

[digitalradio] Re: WSPR power levels

2009-03-28 Thread marc
The "odd" power ratings are often caused by (PSK) QRM. I even copied stations
with 0 Watt... So not all spots in the database are necessarily correct. It
also happens that a locator is decoded, but that it turns out that such a
station is in the middle of the ocean.

Doug,

You can find HF Slow Scan TV at:
3.730 LSB, 7.033 LSB (rare), 14.230 USB, 28.680 USB.
These are calling frequencie. So +/-3KHz you'll find SSTV.

[digitalradio] Re: - EU Tests on 7.033Mhz

2008-04-01 Thread Marc
TNX junior, but most cams on the pages you mentioned monitor 20m (and
my SSTV cam as well as Peter's cam (VK6AAL) are on these pages) There
are only a few cams (in EU) that monitor 40m as far as I know. So it
is not clear to me if there is any SSTV on 40m in North- and South
America, and on what frequency. I monitor 7.033 MHz.

And by the way: I have quite a good copy on you (and other stations
from the Americas) on 20m here in EU. The path from EU to you seems to
be improving. I can hear SSTV from America until late in the evening
in EU.

2008-03-29 Thread Marc
I have been monitoring Peter's activity on 40m SSTV. And as he said
the path from VK to EU is well feasible around 20.00 UTC. But my
question to the group is: is there any SSTV activity on 40m later in
the evening/night in the Americas? Since I never hear any stations
from over the pond when I keep monitoring 7.033 MHz after the opening
to VK is closed.
