Perhaps not, since you're a Linux user. Although I haven't tried it
myself yet, I *think* you'll find that hfterm on Linux runs PACTOR-1
and AMTOR in ARQ mode with a sound card. Windows users need a
multimode controller for ARQ modes, because Windows doesn't respond to
interrupts quickly enough, but Linux does not.

Let us know how hfterm works out for you in the ARQ modes. Good luck.

1.There is a

There is a handy digi definitions page here:
http://home.teleport.com/~nb6z/main.htm

ALE is a frequency hopping mode popular with the military.
The hflink group is all about that one.

Hmmm. Sounds as though if I wish to cover all modes I
will need something more than a sound card as some of
them need more interface help than others!

For these mode PSK31, PSK63, MFSK16,Olivia,Chip64,you can use a sound card
interface, I use the Rascal fpr severial years with no problems.
For PACTOR &
AMTOR a multi mode TNC loke the PK232 is requireed because of timing, also Packet
will operate better, the other modes THROB, ALE I have no idea what they are but
mostlikely will work with a sound card also

[digitalradio] Preferred PC-to- Rig Interface?

Which interface would you recommend and why, please?

Or is there a different reasonably priced interface that
is even more to be preferred?
