Which list? When? Comments like this *without a reference* irritate me no end. If you know about the discussion it is almost trivial for you to find a reference - since I'm obviously not aware of it, I may or may not every find it. > It is not only an issue related to the size of install files. Doing help > available on the wiki, is a mean to easily update the help and better > keep it synchronized with the code. I'm not suggesting to not use the help on the wiki, but locally available help is a must for many people. Again - it is only @ 8MB. It isn't saving hardly anything with regard to file size, and only complicates the installation process for those of us (majority?) who want locally available help. I have also had many people (I do tech support for a living) ask me why they don't have any help when they are disconnected from the internet - they don't even KNOW help doesn't come with the normal install. Purely and simply, if this was an intentional decision, it was poorly made, and needs to be rectified. >> I am getting VERY tired of having to do a custom install on and >> disabling DOZENS of foreign language dictionaries that I do not want or >> need. > You have only to disable globally the installation of dictionaries and > then enable only the dictionaries that you need. Two clicks if you want > only one dictionary. Well, thanks for that (kind of obvious now that you mention it), but I'll reiterate: Every other program that I have ever installed defaults to ONLY the language the OS is running in - selecting other languages is *always* something that must be intentionally done. Defaulting to all is ignorant. >> I know that disk space was a problem/concern initially, but it has been >> long enough... please provide smaller individual language builds. > Disk space is a problem for servers and the most the total size of > install set is big the most the time to synchronize mirrors is long. As it is for every other software package out there. It was promised that this huge all inclusive download was a TEMPORARY situation until more server space was available - I hope the developers to honor that commitment. These 3 issues are the biggest complaints I get when referring people to LibO, and I'm sure I'm not the only one - I'm just trying to help make things better for everyone... -- Best regards, Charles -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to discuss+h...@documentfoundation.org Archive: http://listarchives.documentfoundation.org/www/discuss/ *** All posts to this list are publicly archived for eternity ***
Re: RE : [tdf-discuss] Re: Feature request - embed font
P.P.S.: And of course, even when both the sender and the recipient have the same font installed on their system, there still is no iron-clad guarantee that both will see the exact same thing on their computer screen, due to the variety of display schemes (ClearType sub-pixel rendering etc.) in circulation. So, the Holy Grail is not achievable, only incremental improvements. -- View this message in context: http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/RE-tdf-discuss-Re-Feature-request-embed-font-tp2706681p2716065.html Sent from the Discuss mailing list archive at Nabble.com. -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to discuss+h...@documentfoundation.org Archive: http://listarchives.documentfoundation.org/www/discuss/ *** All posts to this list are publicly archived for eternity ***

The help pack is only a fraction of the size problem... Separating the individual langauge downloads will help FAR more than keeping the help pack separate - and as I said, separating the help only complicates installation process. Very few other programs do ts - the only one that comes to mind immediately being the GIMP - and that one is just as irritating to install. > And seperate the language package as many languages are unneccessary for > someone. Again - separating the language packs, and providing installers for individual languages is what will provide a dramatic reduction in the download file size. > To avoid installing un-desired dictionaries, you can directly modify the > libreoffice33.msi with ORCA, but it will be take you much of time to modify. Right - enabling every single dictionary by default is ridiculous. Every other program worth anything defaults to ONLY the language you are using for your OS... -- Best regards, Charles -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to discuss+h...@documentfoundation.org Archive: http://listarchives.documentfoundation.org/www/discuss/ *** All posts to this list are publicly archived for eternity ***
Re: RE : [tdf-discuss] Re: Feature request - embed font
A postscript: "Free" does not necessarily mean lower quality. Some beautiful free fonts that I have on my system include - Yanone Kaffeesatz - Lavoisier - Ubuntu - and of course the terrific Linux Libertine G and Linux Biolinum G There are free fonts for all sorts of special needs, for example the STIX family of fonts includes every symbol and character for the entire universe of scientific/technical publishing. P.S.: Sorry if I sometimes write OOo inadvertently, I do realize this is a LibreOffice Board! -- View this message in context: http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/RE-tdf-discuss-Re-Feature-request-embed-font-tp2706681p2715928.html Sent from the Discuss mailing list archive at Nabble.com. -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to discuss+h...@documentfoundation.org Archive: http://listarchives.documentfoundation.org/www/discuss/ *** All posts to this list are publicly archived for eternity ***
