Are all the details in your signature necessary? Why don't you just provide
one link to your homepage? It would be eco-friendly :)

[tdf-discuss] Re: Re: Re: Forums... again

2011-04-23 Thread Michelle Konzack
Forgotten one thing:

As a developer, I have always my MUA open in one of m screens and I see,
when I new message, maybe for me important, came in.

Also I see immediately Subjects: I am interested in or I like to help.

This is not possibel on Web-Forums which you have to reload all 35 mins
and then of course have to walk through all Sub-Forums pages.

This is WHY it is not reliabel for peoples which like to support the
community.

Note: I am owner of more then 180 mailinglists which I manage my own,
but as a Web-Forum it would require at least 10-15 peoples here.

Thanks, Greetings and nice Day/Evening

Actually, there are only about one million English words in English, and
that's including the 500,000 or so scientific words.

Note that a spell checker doesn't just need to list the words, but
needs to know all forms of the words (plural form, genitive form,
different times,)

Well, the spell checker just needs a list of words -- grammar is
something else. OED2 contained 290,000 entries with a total of 690,000
word forms. OED3 has somewhat more; a solid word list in an office
suite should have somewhat fewer. You don't want to include obsolete
words that have a close but different spelling from common words, for
example.

It is slow! I can not use it!
Also it produce a very high traffic which I have to pay.

You are right. That billion words is the size of the corpus that is
used, not the number of words in it.

And to know which spelling is correct, a grammar checker rather than a
spell checker probably is needed.
