[steering-discuss] Having fixed-time calls
Hello, I received various inquiries of having fixed times for the SC calls, to avoid confusion and help better planning. I do not want to decided that on my own, so I would like to ask for feedback, especially from the SC members, as they have to participate. :) What I could imagine is keeping our alternating scheme, i.e. one call Monday to Thursday, and the following week it is Friday to Sunday. In addition, looking at European time zones, I propose we have the calls during the week between 18 and 20 UTC+2 (=German time, i.e. 16 to 18 UTC). At the weekends, I propose to have it during the day. Does that make sense? I agree, this is very European-centric, so I would like to especially ask the colleagues from other countries to give their feedback, as I do not want to exclude anyone. Just one example what we could do: Having a call on Wednesday at 1700 UTC (=1900 German time), and the following week on Satuday at 1500 UTC (=1700 German time). Next week again Wednesday at 1700 UTC and so on. I am still not convinced, and would prefer voting per week, but as I have been asked, I'd love to share. @Andras Yes. That is quite obvious for developers. But can't it simply say RC2 somewhere so that *USERS* KNOW which version they have? -- View this message in context: http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/RC2-no-3-4-0-x-tag-in-help-about-libreoffice-tp2994857p2995756.html Sent from the Discuss mailing list archive at Nabble.com. -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to discuss+h...@documentfoundation.org Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.documentfoundation.org/www/discuss/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

Original Message From: Marius Popa marius.mar...@gmail.com To: discuss@documentfoundation.org Date: Sat, 28 May 2011 08:36:32 +0300 Probably, I should first convert the PDF to ODT and then remake the file and convert it to PDF again. How to convert a PDF to an ODT file? Unless you frequently need to make many conversions, or need to convert extremely large files, you can use a free on-line conversion service. The service I use is http://www.zamzar.com The conversions are not 100% perfect, but reasonable enough for my editing requirements. [tdf-discuss] Comparison of LO and OO downloads for a non-English language
I've been wondering for some time why downloading a stable Swedish version of LO is more complicated than downloading a stable Swedish version of OO (I presume this is also the case for other non-English languages, but I've not tried). Below a table which displays the difference : *(64-bit) Ubuntu 10.10 :* * LibO_3.3.2_Linux_x86-64_install-deb_en-US.tar.gz 163 MB * LibO_3.3.2_Linux_x86-64_langpack-deb_sv.tar.gz 2.1 MB (sv - Svenska) * LibO_3.3.2_Linux_x86-64_helppack-deb_sv.tar.gz 9.9 MB (sv - Svenska) Download now! Start downloading OpenOffice.org 3.3.0 for Linux Debian 64-bit in Swedish. (Java Runtime Environment (JRE) included for all OS versions except Linux 32/64-bit Debian and Mac OS) * (64-bit) Windows 7 :* * LibO_3.3.2_Win_x86_install_multi.exe 214 MB * LibO_3.3.2_Win_x86_helppack_sv.exe 9.6 MB (sv - Svenska) Download OpenOffice.org 3.3.0 Click to start downloading the most recent version for Windows and Swedish (Java Runtime Environment (JRE) included for all versions except Linux 32/64-bit Debian and Mac OS) As the table makes clear, for 64-bit Linux Debian, two more files must be downloaded and installed in the case of LO than in the case of OO. For Windows, one more file is required. This means that when helping retirees install an alternative to MS Office, I find myself turning to OO rather than LO, which I prefer for my own use. If the respective helppacks and langpacks can be included in stable versions of OO for non-English languages, I fail to understand why the same thing cannot be done for LO versions. But perhaps I am missing something here ?... M Henri Day wrote: 2011/5/28 Stefan Weigel stefan.weigel@... As far as I know, it´s an issue of data volume on the download servers. Which, no doubt, is an question of money. Actually it is just a choice: it does lower the barrier for someone to host a mirror, but the size and upload time are comparable; the ratio between the space needed to host LibreOffice and OpenOffice.org is not an order of magnitude but something like 1/5 or 1/6, especially now that LibreOffice partially dropped support for several dozens of languages (that were actually untranslated). You should also consider that the help pack is kind of optional in LibreOffice, since LibreOffice relies on online (i.e., on a website) help as its primary help system. Re: [tdf-discuss] Re: Mailing List FAQ
Hi NoOp, * NoOp schrieb: [...] that page is on http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Local_Mailing_Lists/ so even if translated and cleaned up wouldn't suffice. The place for such a FAQ should be on http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/ and apply to all locales. Suggestions: http://www.mozilla.org/about/forums/etiquette.html http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community/mailinglists [Technical guidelines - in particular] http://www.openoffice.org/ml_guidelines.html Friedrich Strohmaier already asked for someone to translate the German wiki page on netiquette (now part of the German mailing list wiki page) to English in order to link from every mail to the list: http://go.mail-archive.com/da0-BS6BGJYuOt7LR964ojFN2H4= Unfortunately he didn't get any positive reply... [...] That said, here is a question; how can a common user be expected to possibly find http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Local_Mailing_Lists/ to begin with? I see no link on http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/ do you? It takes two clicks on links in the first two lines of the webpages: 1. Click on Local/Regional in the first line of the page. 2. Click on refer to the local and regional mailing lists table on our wiki in the second line of the page. With a larger screen you might read this line already at the bottom of your visible screen, so you could reach the wiki page already with one click. But in general you're right: An average user will hardly read the text and might miss the link. Would you please send a better proposal to the website list? Or if you could put your proposal in the SilverStripe CMS (request for write access on the website list) and let it approve by a SilverStripe admin, it's integration would take even less time.
