Italo Vignoli has kindly produced business cards for the whole board, to

 all cards is 657,60 €.

I'd like the board to approve this sum for the production.

[board-discuss] [4.0] Review

2013-02-13 Thread klaus-jürgen weghorn ol
Hi to all board members,
as 4.0.0 is rolled out there should be a review about what happened:

The good points, the bad points
What can we do in the same way, what in a better way the next time?
What is needed to get it better?
A discussion may cause some budget thoughts, community handling,
marketing concepts, Whiteboards, Easy Hacks etc.

IMHO the board should be the starting point and the lead of such a
discussion to give it a direction for the whole community.

What do you think?

In addition, I will spend the following amounts for my trip to the US in
late March, based on a thorough research of the least expensive options:

sorry for my late reply, and thanks so much for all your activity!

So, for the Oman trip there has been no budget approved at all so far,
it is only for POSSCON and LibrePlanet, as far as I can so. For the ease
of voting, I propose to:

1. Vote on having a budget of 2.500 € in total for your trips to

Yes.

OMAN should be mostly covered, although I have discovered by digging
into the country website that I might be asked to pay for the enry VISA
(around 40 Euro, but this is not clear), plus I will have to cover taxi
transfers and meals, and I do not know - because I did not get answers
to my questions - to which extent the organization covers them (might be
all covered, but I will discover it once there).

The US trip could prove more expensive than planned because of taxes on
lodging, which are difficult to understand as they are not shown on the
hotel rates, and other possible extras. I have booked hotels different
from the event suggested ones, as I have found cheaper options (but
unfortunately not so cheap).

I hope to spend the lowest figure, of course, but I prefer to ask in
advance than to create a problem afterwards.

currently the color of the watermark and the font/typeface are hard

To get around that limitation[s], why not create a watermark image and
place it in the background?

I made a very faded color image and placed it in the background in
several places on a letterhead. It was so light and faded it could be
printed, but would not show up when copied. Althoughthey did not need
it, that allowed them to have a way to make sure no one could make
copies of the document[s] and claim that it was the original. The color
image printed out well in either bw or color.

So, if you really need to have a watermark design that cannot be done
with the watermark option, try doing that. To be honest, I created the
letterhead using OpenOffice.org and did not know how to use any
watermark feature. So I used what I knew how to do, the background image.

[tdf-discuss] Wanted: Libreoffice php-based document management server

2013-02-13 Thread M. Robinson
Hello,

Nice work on LibreOffice 4, however, if I'm being greedy, I would also
like a LibreOffice, php-based, document management server.
I'm no php guru, but I'm a lot more comfortable with a php-based
solution than a java-based solution.

Hopefully more of the php-based CMS will begin offering CMIS
plugins for documeant management, but I think a LibreOffice solution,
A-to-Z (shared calendar), would be better.

At the very least, the foundation should adopt an existing php-based
CMS and push a CMIS document management plugin, or you can add a
LibreOffice gpg extension, partner-up and create a AbiCollab.net-type
solution which could generate revenue from users that sign up for Pro
accounts via LibreOffice.org

At any rate, commercial open source is open source backwards.

It's Simon's tutorial, and this wiki page links to his YouTube video (scroll

I generally advise people to send me PDFs rather than editable
documents unless there's a real need for me to edit them. That way
there's no risk anyone will get locked-in to anything :-)

If I *do* need to be able to edit I request Hybrid PDF files, which
are PDFs with the original ODF source embedded. They are easy to make
with LibreOffice and I've created a tutorial here:
 http://webmink.com/2012/05/07/making-hybrid-pdfs/

 ODT in place of DOC/DOCX,
 ODS in place of XLS/XLSX,
 ODP in place of PPT/PPTX.

ODF is one bridge to far. People think in DOC, XLS and PPT. To get
them away from that we should start from there. Not with a high level
 ODF concept!

Re: [tdf-discuss] Help vendor-lock-in awareness

2013-02-13 Thread Jean Weber
I have now added an explicit link from the entry Docs wiki page to the
video tutorials section on the 3rd-party page.

Now that we are putting a longer list of video tutorials on that page,
we may need to split them off onto a separate page. If we do, we'll
leave a link on the 3rd-party page to the new location.

The list of videos will need to be organised into logical, labelled
categories at some point, too.

No such import filters by default in LO35413.

To promote proliferation of odf documents, should distribute in these formats.
