[tdf-discuss] Make visible only slides in a group
Good morning: I'm the one who said what to pay for a feature. I am a teacher and I have a topic presentations for various groups: various studies, teachers, students, ... I can use the Custom Slide Show ... to group and display of a group, but I would add a button called Show only that puts Slide Show all group selected and Hide Slide to the rest. It should be easy, but it is very hard to get me to download the code, find the place to add the code and find the exact properties to change. I have programmed in C++ Borland for Windows and Linux with QT, Python with Boa-Constructor, ... , but if someone already has the infrastructure and know exactly what to ask I would be willing to pay 60-120 euros (I take much work to prepare the materials for my classes, preferably someone from the EU in order to make him a free transfer in euros). Still I have 50 papers to correct and I expect another 200 in 10 days, I have no time. Or you can tell me the steps to try to do it: use Debian Squeeze with amd64. Thank you. I never liked it. If you donate money to one feature and it does not get added, or fixed, in your time line and not the developer's, it can be a mess. We do not know what can be fixed easily, or if something that looks simple will be a real hard add or fix. The simple things tend to be not so simple. We cannot even make a paper trail to show an agency [required by] that the donation towards a feature would even go to it. That would make a big legal mess. Paying a third party to fix things has been used by spammers for a long time. +1 to all that, but I think offering a payment and letting a developer opt in or out is fine. As long as user and developer understand LibreOffice has no part in the process. [tdf-discuss] Grammar Checking in Writer
I just did a complete cleaning and re-installation of LibreOffice on my 64 bit Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I now have LibreOffice Version 4.0.3.3 (Build ID: 0eaa50a932c8f2199a615e1eb30f7ac74279539) installed. I was attempting to explore the grammar checking feature - using either F7 or Tools | Spelling and Grammar ... but have been unable to get it to do anything. My sample was a new blank document in which I typed the boyz is good. The auto-correction capitalized the initial T, and the spell checker flagged boyz, but there was no indication at all about a problem with boys is, even after re-running F7 once the spelling of boys had been corrected. Under Tools | Language Settings | Writing Aids - Available Language Modules, LightProof Language Checker is checked. Under Tools | Language Settings | Writing Aids - Options, Check grammar as you type is checked. In the Tools | Language Tool | Configuration dialog, I took one of the checked examples of what the tool checks and used it in the document, as follows: I typed in Is this a know problem? According to the rule, this should be corrected or flagged to be Is this a known problem? Instead, it suggested the following: Is these a know problem? This, of course, would add an additional error to the sentence. I suppose I could just assume that it knows I'm perfect, and just wants to help me appear more human, but I suspect it's more likely that I'm either missing something somewhere. Can anyone spot what I'm doing wrong? [tdf-discuss] Re: Experimental UI for LibreOffice proposal
My two cents. Advice: Listen to Wolfgang (earlier posts), whoever he is. I vote with him. To elaborate: One of the reasons I dumped the DOS version of Microsoft Word and switched to WordPerfect back when personal computers first started becoming prevalent was that only HALF the screen was devoted to the user's document. Fast forward to Microsoft Word for Windows. The reason I finally dumped WinWord for good was that, while I was aware of several annoying bugs that were present from its earliest incarnation, they remain today even though the entire user interface changed significantly with several of the releases. The last straw was the version that came out at around the time Vista appeared - the one that introduced the ribbon. There was nothing particularly wrong or offensive about the new interface, and there were even some nice things about it - it's just that I'm one of the seven or so people on earth that actually use a word processor to write documents longer than two pages and don't wish to totally relearn everything in order to continue work on a document in progress. Unless there are some CLEAR IMPROVEMENTS in usability with a new interface, why do it??? Some examples: Let's change the keyboard layout to Dvorak, since that is clearly more efficient. Nope - it might be in theory, and possibly even in practice for a few folks, but even with documented advantages, it just isn't going to happen. Or, how about let's swap the positions of the cold and hot faucets in the shower to freshen up the interface? Stick to providing a choice of chrome or brass or whatever, and change the color of the wall tiles if you want, but leave the fundamental interface alone unless there is a compelling reason to change it - such as some new functionality that can't otherwise be accommodated. And, if we would like to step away from word processors to more general subjects, let's change the piano keyboard so the lower notes are on the right and the treble ones on the left. If my meaning isn't clear, here's an experiment to try: since those who propose writing new interfaces obviously think they have better ways of organizing things (and let's assume that to be correct!), wait until your wife leaves for the day, then go into the kitchen and reorganize the drawers and cabinets. If you could record and post the conversation where you are explaining to her how much more efficient she will be, I'd bet I'm not the only one who would enjoy listening. It's probably human nature to want something to look new and spiffy, or to reorganize everything, but a quick survey of this forum and other areas suggest that we as a community would be better served by thorough feature testing and such things. Sorry if this turned out to be a rant - my only excuse is that I'm old and just naturally cranky :) -- View this message in context: http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/Experimental-UI-for-LibreOffice-proposal-tp4042528p4056739.html Sent from the Discuss mailing list archive at Nabble.com. -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: discuss+unsubscr...@documentfoundation.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.documentfoundation.org/www/discuss/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
Re: [tdf-discuss] Grammar Checking in Writer
There has been known problems of Lightproof not being good at detecting certain phrase strings, I myself only rely on the spell check for LO and have resorted to the prowess of my human eye and the plethora of free websites that dedicate themselves to spell and grammar checking. I notice that there has not been a major release for lightproof for awhile now, Also despite my looking there seems to be nothing to indicate whether or not there has been any recent development recently I trust that this website: http://grammarbase.com will be of help in the future PS: upon rereading your problem I realised I at some point had the same problem. My problem was when I had LO on my ubuntu machine due to my locale being New Zealand and there not being a New Zealand dictionary installed the automatic language of LO was en_NZ and thus lightproof was ineffective, Upon a quick google search I came across this link which could perhaps be of some benefit: http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/five-apps/five-libreoffice-extensions-to-help-you-catch-grammar-problems/1280 Ka Kite Anthony On Fri, 17 May 2013, at 08:59 PM, CVAlkan wrote: I just did a complete cleaning and re-installation of LibreOffice on my 64 bit Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
