Re: [IxDA Discuss] final project MA Interactive Media
Thank you very much for your opinions! It's definitely something to consider. As I told Fabian, I am not happy with the map vie yet, so I'm making some improvements. The reason I didn't put a world map is exactly for the aim of the project is to break this concept (that's why I break the borders in the main view by drawing lines and creating a new map that you should see in the map view). I'll improve the map view and put the option of where the books went to, so you can see pages referring to that book. Many thanks and glad you liked the concept. Best wishes, Mariana. Brilliant idea, really nice aesthetics, great concept .. but navigation and usability can be improved. (may be the map view link should be that) Overall really nice job :) AK . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Re: [IxDA Discuss] What is your design workflow?
Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. I have a meeting next week with the stakeholders of this project, I will suggest that we work on changing the design process to be included earlier. It might be too late to truly benefit this current project, but may be helpful for the next project. I also will be scheduling a meeting with the development leads to discuss ways to improve our Agile process. Brian . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [IxDA Discuss] HTC hero - what are your thoughts?
Did i miss a discussion on this one ? Or it hasnt been discussed here as yet (shockingly) Anyway so HTC Sense, is what the new interface is called of HTC hero which is the third Android powered device presented on the market but is the first huge customization of Android. It has couple of interesting features. HTC envisions the relations between the person and his interactions with other people. Here is the video of the launch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DXD9ag4P50eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fitsme.it%2Fnews%2F2009%2F07%2F08%2Fhtc-hero%2Ffeature=player_embedded The concept is quite similar to what itsme O.S introduces as well http://itsme.it/news/2009/06/16/envisioning-relations/ Relations are going to be of prime importance in the ID process Welcome to the Interaction Design Association (IxDA)! Re: [IxDA Discuss] Password Masking research
Forgive me if I'm repeating a point that has been raised before... When considering whether to mask a password I think it's important to remember that there are other situations in which the password can be made to appear other than it being typed in character-by-character. The most common case (which I'm dealing with now) is the situation in which the user's browser has been told to remember the password. This is a default feature in at least IE and Firefox and probably exists in other browsers. In cases where the browser's auto-complete features are turned on (also easy to do) a single keystroke in the username field can pre-fill a remembered ID and password. The question, then, is slightly different - under what situations could someone other than the intended user be in a position to type that keystroke and thereby potentially see an unmasked password? If the computer is always only used by one person then it's a moot question. In the real world, though, there are often other people who may be at the controls - a babysitter or party guest (at home), a coworker or temp (in an office) - and I'm sure you can think of other cases. In these situations the point of masking the password is to conceal it not from the hypothetical shoulder-surfer (a case I would consider rare) but from every other person who might use the same browser. That seems to be a much larger set of people. Once again half-masking may provide a solution. A password brought up by one of these indirect routes could appear fully masked independently of the way it's shown during the process of entry. My $0.02 anyway... --Alan Welcome to the Interaction Design Association (IxDA)! I haven't gotten to play with one yet, but (on my G1) I really like the haptic feedback they added in 1.5 for things like the screen unlock and other touch events. -- J. [IxDA Discuss] Expression Blend 3.0 with SketchFlow Released Today
This is a bit of a self-serving post but probably of interest to many IXDA folks. Today the first public version of Expression Blend 3.0 was released. Included is a new feature called SketchFlow which is designed for dynamic-prototyping. If you're a fan of Bill Buxton and his ideas put forth on Sketching for User Experience in his book and past IxDA talks SketchFlow is worth checking out. It's got fantastic features to allow designers to bring sketches to life and build complex prototypes in an rapid and iterative process without having to resort to code. It's also got the potential to integrate well with tools like AutoDesk SketchBook, and Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator with new import functions. My colleague, Sara Summers and I are currently writing a book that introduces designers to SketchFlow features. We'd love to get feedback on it and we're providing a free chapter of the book that details all the basics on how to use this tool and get productive. If SketchFlow is something that sounds interesting to you Sara and I would love to get feedback from you if you download and play with it. You can download SketchFlow here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=92e1db7a-5d36-449b-8c6b-d25f078f3609displaylang=en You can download our sample book chapter and project files here: www.dynamic-prototyping.com We think this is an exciting time for interactive designers, let us know what you think!
