Human Factors Engineer - Philadelphia, PA

 

The Human Factors Engineer will conduct user research including
ethnographic studies, interviews and user taxonomy studies, usability
testing, and cognitive walkthroughs. This role will lead the translation
of user requirements into highly intuitive portal pages and integrated
applications. He or she will provide expert reviews for both proposed
and existing websites and applications. The Human Factors Engineer will
work on a team focused on human computer interaction best practices,
processes, tools and methodologies. 

 

Responsibilities 

*          Translate the output of various types of user research into
user requirements for the Corporate Portal, including system integration
projects, new and existing content areas, and tools 

*          Establish and maintain a high level of usability for the
sales and marketing areas of the corporate portal, leveraging HCI best
practices and industry standards

*          Lead various types of user research (e.g. ethnographic
studies, interviews, and usability testing) as part of overall
stakeholder engagements

*          Consult on or participate in cross-organization and corporate
projects as required

 

Competencies 

*          Excellent understanding of business requirements, including
some experience in sales, marketing or business development

*          Expertise in project management

*          Strong interpersonal skills 

*          Software and system skills: The ideal candidate must be
familiar with knowledge management tools such as portals, content
management systems, collaboration technologies, CRM systems and
communication systems. A strong functional understanding is required,
and a deeper technical expertise is a plus. 

*          User Centered Design process: It is critical that the ideal
candidate be well versed in User-Centered Design (UCD) methodology,
specifically with user research techniques. 

*          Human Computer Interaction: Specific skills and experience
are needed in the area of human computer interaction, ethnography and
other forms of user observation, and the translation of research results
into business actions. Must have significant experience with usability
testing and analysis. 

*          Education: The qualified candidate will hold a PhD or Masters
degree in Human Factors, the social sciences (Psychology, Anthropology),
or a related field, and have work-related experience in Human Computer
Interaction or related user research activities.
