Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] OSGeo Journal articles and preparation
Hi Tyler, I will include an article about projects or cases from Brazil in the volume 2. My sugestion is call the OSGeo local chapter to translate the Journal to many languages. I can work with Brazilian OSGeo Chapter to translate to portuguese (BR). In this month, a new version of GeoLivre.org.br http://geolivre.org.br/portal (the brazilian community of open source GIS - over than 700 users) will be finished and will include many informations about OSGeo. This new version was developed under Drupal. My idea is to use the GeoLivre as a portuguese language chanal to OSGeo news. Uchoa 2007/3/26, Tyler Mitchell [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Contributors to the upcoming release of the OSGeo Journal (formerly called the Newsletter) have been hard at work and we starting to wrap up draft versions. This is the last call for any news tidbits, event summaries or developer announcements about open source software projects. Drop me a note or add your content to: http://wiki.osgeo.org/index.php/Newsletter_Volume_1 and we'll be in touch. Deadline for all submissions is the end of the month. If you want to plan ahead, you are welcome to add yourself to the list of contributors for the next volume: http://wiki.osgeo.org/index.php/Newsletter_Volume_2 Of particular interest are interviews and case studies. Dates for next volume have not been set. We will be treating the first few volumes as a bit of an experiment to see how much work is too much or what areas we need to focus better on. Language translation is one that we have not planned to touch yet. At present our draft volume 1 is looking quite large (30-50 pages!) so that alone may not be very exciting for translators to handle.. but let's see how it goes. I encourage anyone who would like to help in any way with the journal to sign up to our development list and introduce yourself, interests and availability: http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/newsletter/ Thanks for the feedback, Tyler ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[OSGeo-Discuss] FW: Conference Proposal Notification
H. looks like my proposal for an OSGeo session at OSCON did not go over well. Anyone have a suggestion as to how to re-approach them to try and convince the powers that be that we should be there. Last year was a great success. maybe it was my proposal they did not like ;-( Any thoughts are welcome. While your proposal was considered closely, we are not able to include it in the program this year. In most cases proposals are declined because the topic of the talk or tutorial was already covered in another presentation, or the subject matter was too narrow or vendor specific. This year we again had far too many great talks to fit into the number of slots available. We encourage you to submit a proposal for next year's conference, and we thank you again for taking the time to submit your proposal. We would like to offer you a 25% discount off the registration fee if you simply want to attend. RE: [OSGeo-Discuss] FW: Conference Proposal Notification
Aaron, It appears to me that reapproaching them would do little good. It does not seem that the proposal was bad or did not go over well. Rather, there seemed to have been a surfeit of proposals rendered and yours just was not chosen. Incidentally, thank you for providing us with the discount code. grin Chip Taylor Prepared Response, Inc _ From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Aaron Racicot Sent: Wednesday, April 04, 2007 2:58 PM To: 'OSGeo Discussions' Cc: 'Visibility Committee Discussion List' Subject: [OSGeo-Discuss] FW: Conference Proposal Notification H. looks like my proposal for an OSGeo session at OSCON did not go over well. No. Please do not apply for a Google Grant until we are able to verify your 501(c)(3) status with the IRS. Probably we are far enough with it now.
