Hopefully you distinguish participation from voting since some choose
not to vote out of principle (although perhaps this is not an issue for
the charter members who might all have bought in to the vote based
approach of decision making used by OSGeo).

Great. So has Tyler done so? Where do things stand? Does Paul's list
need revision as the list of potential candidates? If you don't have
attendance or minutes, how can anyone possibly know?

Fine with that but currently it is not that obvious that the service
provider directory
is the correct vehicle, at least to me. But perhaps it is "just" a marketing
problem (plus some cosmetics to the pages).

Adrian,

Only voting is going to be noted as participation. If you, on principle,
do not wish to cast a vote for a particular candidate then you should
submit a ballot listing no candidates but noting you choose to abstain.

The Secretary (Tyler) is responsible for keeping track of participation in
cooperation with the election CRO.

Great. So has Tyler done so?

I will leave that to Tyler to respond to.

I believe this will be the 3rd year of voting since we actualized
the concept of participation. So someone who fails to vote this year
as well as the previous two years would be dropped from the charter
member ranks.

[OSGeo-Discuss] OSGeo Board Election 2010 - Reminder #1

2010-08-02 Thread Paul Ramsey
OSGeo Members,

The OSGeo Board Election for 2010 is now beginning. The first stage is
the nomination of candidates for the board. Board membership is for a
two year term, and half the Board is refreshed each year. This year
there are four seats up for election.

http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Election_2010#Board_Election

Anyone can submit a Board nomination, however only Charter Members are
eligible to serve on the Board. The complete list of charter members
is available by from

* http://www.osgeo.org/charter_members

A new charter member intake process will be run later this year.

Please submit your nominations, consisting of name and a paragraph
describing why you think this person would make a good Board member,
to c...@osgeo.org. Please ensure that your nominee is actually willing
to serve, prior to nominating them.

The nomination period will close at midnight Thursday 12th August
2010, and will be followed by a one-week voting period.

Yours,

Paul Ramsey

[OSGeo-Discuss] mxd to other format (i.e. shapefile)

2010-08-02 Thread maning sambale
No luck so far looking for a converter.

Basically, I want to export geometry and attributes without the
styling from an Arc's mxd format to shapefile.

Any workaround here (other then looking for an ArcGIS installed machine)?

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] mxd to other format (i.e. shapefile)

2010-08-02 Thread George Silva
You must be confusing things here Maning,

Mxd is the format that ArcGIS uses to store *mapdocuments*, while
shapefiles/database geometry data/coverages/rasters are displayed on that
map. If you only have the mxd you won't be able to convert anything to
shapefile. You need the original data.

A Mxd is much like an HTML. It provides information on how content is
organized, but it's not content itself.

Hi Maning,

You can try ArcMap2SLD. It convert *.mxd to SLD.

Download it here.

George,

To get this right, mxd are actually just a styling file similar to
Arcview's apr and avl?
