Nice to hear that you found the script and got it to work! I'd love to see
what fixes you applied and would roll them into the official code.

How you use the resulting xml brings up a good question. How did you envision
using the metadata results?

My plans were to build a gui and simple query system next. But ultimately I
want a tool in my desktop GIS to allow quick browsing and loading of certain
layers easily.

There are some hacks in there that can output sql or csv if you need something
simpler.

[OSGeo-Discuss] Automatic-Metadata Catalogueing

2010-08-23 Thread Timmie
Hello,
I have piled up quite some data for a current project.

In order to keep track of the data I would like to use some automatic indexing
to create a data catalog.

The idea is to cycle through all folders and sub-folders and create a catalogue
which shows:
* basic data (projection, extend)
* attribute table columns
* data preview

I found two solutions:
* SpatialDataCataloguingScript at
http://code.google.com/p/spatialguru/wiki/SpatialDataCataloguingScript

=> this works well after some fixing.
But how do I best use the generated XML file?

Apparently, gvSIG has some tool as well:
Semi-automatic Metadata Extraction from Imagery and Cartographic data
http://www.geoinfo.uji.es/pubs/igarss07-metadata-cameraready.pdf

What can you recommend?

Thanks in advance,
Timmie

[OSGeo-Discuss] Volunteer Assistance for Pakistan Relief Efforts

2010-08-23 Thread David William Bitner
Dear OSGeo Community,

As most of you are likely aware there is a major natural disaster continuing
to unfold in Pakistan due to major flooding. The Sahana Software Foundation
is currently standing up an instance of Sahana Eden that is being used in
support of the relief efforts in Pakistan at
http://pakistan.sahanafoundation.org.

Sahana Eden is an open source rapid application development framework that
is built on the Web2Py framework including a mapping portal that is built
using OpenLayers and GeoExt. Sahana Eden works with open standards wherever
possible.

The Sahana Software Foundation is seeking volunteers to help with the
following tasks:

   - Data Entry
   - OpenLayers/GeoExt Enhancements and Bug Fixing
   - Finding supporting data layers and services for the mapping portal,
   standing up OpenLayers accessible web services (WMS/KML/GeoRSS etc) where
   data is available but no services exist
   - Integration of MapFish or GeoServer Print Service
   - General Python development with Web2Py

Volunteers will need to be patient and understand that our ability to help
you help us may be limited by the work that our developers need to maintain
in coordination with those who are using this portal for their responses.
Further information about the Sahana Software Foundation Flood Response can
be found at http://eden.sahanafoundation.org/wiki/Pakistan. Our current
development needs can be found at
http://eden.sahanafoundation.org/wiki/PakistanDevelopers. Those interested
in assisting our efforts should sign up to the mailing list at
http://groups.google.com/group/sahana-pakistan-2010.  Our developers are
coordinating our response on IRC on Freenode channel #sahana-eden, please
join and introduce yourselves.

Thank you,

David Bitner
Sahana Software Foundation Board of Directors

*The Sahana Software Foundation mission is to help alleviate human suffering
by giving emergency managers, disaster response professionals and
communities access to the information that they need to better prepare for
and respond to disasters through the development and promotion of free and
open source software and open standards.*

[OSGeo-Discuss] Re: [Foss4g2010] Code Sprint

2010-08-23 Thread Lorenzo Becchi
Venka, thank you for moving this.

We are supposed to have 7 rooms (at least) for the BOSs (break out
sessions).

Here the rooms available:
sala 6 (320 pax)sala 5 (250 pax)sala 3 (150 pax)sala 8 (100
pax)
sala 4 (75 pax)sala 11 (78 pax)sala 12 (90 pax)

BOFs are scheduled, for the moment, only on Wednesday afternoon, from 6 to 7
pm. The gala dinner is at 8pm of the same day.
We are checking if, with many request of BOSs we can add another slot.

I suppose that the distribution of the rooms will be made on how many
subscribers there will be in the wiki page.

Lorenzo

[OSGeo-Discuss] Sensor Web BoF (breakout Session) at FOSS4G2010

2010-08-23 Thread Simon Jirka
Dear All,

similar to the WPS Breakout Session (aka Birds-of-a-Feather Session)
at the FOSS4G I would like to organise a session on the topic of
Sensor Web (Enablement).

Looking at the programme of this year I saw, that there seems to be a
growing number of Sensor Web activities. If you are interested to have
some discussion on this topic, it would be great if we could use this
opportunity.

If you are interested to join, please put your name here:
http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/FOSS4G_2010_Breakout_Sessions#Sensor_Web_BoF

Best regards,
Simon
