Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] Which Java OS GIS project to join ?
Maybe you're more interested in building a geoprocessing specific language (who is not?). Then GGL2 is your project. Not very successful so far, so the only possibility is to get better (and indeed we're, slowly though). http://www.gearscape.org Regards. I'm going to jump in early and try to woo you over to the OSGeo-Live project for a couple of weeks (until we put out our next release) http://live.osgeo.org At osgeolive, we package close to 50 open source gespatial applications on an Xubuntu base, and distribute at conferences and workshops around the world. Right now we would dearly love someone with some java experience to test applications running on openjdk 7, as they previously were tested on sun java 6. This is something that all java projects will need to address soon, as sun java will not be allowed to be included in linux based installers in future linux releases (it will need to be installed separately). It would be great to have someone test all our java applications with openjdk, identify any errors, then work with the communities to help resolve any issues found. This would also be a great way to learn about what open source java gis projects are out there, and help you determine which you would like to work with. Interested? [OSGeo-Discuss] Show ortophoto
Hi all, I am at the beginning of a project, which will be implemented in Java, it is a web application. The application has to shows an ortophoto with extension ECW and marks coordinates in ortophoto, I have never worked with ortophotos so I am confused. My solution is: Install Geoserver with GDAL with support ECW Show the map with Openlayers Use Openlayers to mark de coordinates Is a right solution? Is there an alternative solution better than the solution offers for me? Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] Show ortophoto
You always have to mind your license issues when using a proprietary format such as ECW. The library is free for reading; but not for the server side use such as you describe. -- Jody Garnett On Wednesday, 15 February 2012 at 6:20 PM, shevia wrote: Hi all, I am at the beginning of a project, which will be implemented in Java, it is a web application. Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] Which Java OS GIS project to join ?
I would (surprise) like to invite you to take part in the GeoTools project. We have a nice developers guide[1] to help get you started[2]; an easy to follow process if you want to create a new module[3] from scratch; or simply help with some of the existing ideas. Quick suggestion: as an example there series of tutorials[4] and we have a request[5] to make a tutorial on how to use the graph module for route finding. This kind of activity is a great way to get started; as you bring a really scare commodity to any development team - a fresh set of eyes; to both ask questions; and explain the answer clearly.
