Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] Detect and define the coordinate system of gis data with no projection information automatically

2016-08-31 Thread manf...@egger-gis.at
OK. I will send a request in the next days to OSGeo about my wiki-page.

One question about github:

Is it possible to run something like a "servlet" on github, which answers
requests? I think not?
Maybe we have later to setup a additional webserver, which uses github as
database. So thats not the main problem.

Best regards,

Manfred

[OSGeo-Discuss] QGIS GeoAcademy

2016-08-31 Thread Polimi
Dear All
As many of you already know, as OSGeo and GeoForAll, we are part of a project
called UN Open GIS (https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/UnitedNations_Committee).
The project has a Capacity Building working group and we are organizing online
training for UN Staff. We will start the 19th September with the QGIS
GeoAcademy tutorial.
It is conceived as self training but there are some tutors who make them
available for helping in case of doubts, questions and so on.
There will be 15 people of the UN staff involved in this course and three
tutors: Rick Smith, Tom Mueller and Youngok Kang. The tutors are also preparing
a questionnaire and they will check the exercises made by the students (6
exercises of the QGIS GeoAcademy training course).
For completing this course UN staff has 30 days.
UN made a call for interest to its staff and 50 people answered positively. At
this point, we want to schedule a second and a third course from 20 October and
from 20 November. Potential tutors need to be expert in QGIS and to know the
QGIS GeoAcademy tutorial. They will have about 15 people and therefore, in case
there are three tutors, about 5/6 people each.
Are there people interested in contributing? Please, in case, write me!
Best regards!
Maria

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] Detect and define the coordinate system of gis data with no projection information automatically

2016-08-31 Thread Luís de Sousa
Hi Nikos,

I would like to create a core group composed mostly by (but not restricted to)
charter members to steer the project. Therefore, even if you are not able to
contribute much, you can always help with knowledge and decision making.

Over the weekend I will create a GitHub group and a project to start drafting
procedures and the templates. Once that is done I will address the board for
the support.

Regards,

Luís

Dear Luis,

is this open to anyone (OSGeo members at least)? I'd like to be able to
follow this, though not very regularly.

Good, three is already a group!

The strategy will be to define the data model and the templates while in
parallel requiring formal endorsement from OSGeo. A project like this can only
succeed if backed by the foundation.

Please send me your GitHub handles. I would also ask you to link to your OSGeo
member page in your bio (Wiki user page).
