Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] [Election 2016] Nomination for OSGEO Board: Jeffrey Johnson

2016-09-15 Thread David William Bitner
Another big +1 for Jeff from me. Jeff has been very engaged with many
activities surrounding OSGeo. Jeff is a strong leader who has demonstrated
ability to work through consensus while maintaining a very practical sense
of getting things done.

[OSGeo-Discuss] [Election 2016] Nominations reminder and campaign proposal

2016-09-15 Thread Jorge Sanz
Dear OSGeo community and charter members

This is a reminder that there's still some days for nominations to the
Board of Directors elections. We have already nine great candidates,
including all the present Board members running for re-election. Take
a look at [1] for an overview of the nominations and support
expressions. Maybe there's a candidate that is worth your support or
someone special that you think should run to join our Board?

The other point of this email is to follow up with Gert-Jan
proposal[2] to put a week between the nominations period and the
actual voting to let candidates to express their intentions for their
term.

I'm inclined to accept it because I think is a good idea and no one
has opposed but also because next week I'll be out of the office for
the GEOSTAT course first here in Spain (20/21) and SoTM in Brussels
(22/26) later and I'll be pretty busy.

What do you think? Looking forward for your opinions.

All the best

2016-09-15 Thread Jeff McKenna
Johan, it looks like the OSGeo flyer was updated in svn in August, so
you might 'checkout' that as well, for the booth. Hope this helps you!
And thank you. Please feel free to modify and commit any further
changes that you need.

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] OSGeo booth at state of the map

2016-09-15 Thread Jeff McKenna

Hi Johan,

Thank you for helping promote OSGeo at SotM next week.

Regarding booth materials, I know when I was in your same situation for
FOSS4G Seoul I checked out the marketing sources with a command like:

  svn co https://svn.osgeo.org/osgeo/marketing/ marketing-svn

and then found an old version source, of a poster or 'popup', edited it
to make sure it was uptodate, and then committed those changes back into
the svn repository (use your OSGeo ID, which you can find or reset
through http://www.osgeo.org/osgeo_userid). If your user ID needs write
access to that marketing repository please let me know and I will add you.

For example, for the Seoul booth I used my marketing hat and edited the
'popups' at https://svn.osgeo.org/osgeo/marketing/exhibitionpack/ to add
in missing projects etc. It looks like that is the last change made, so
you might have to check to verify the info is still correct, for 2016.
I will also later today check that too.

The marketing collateral is to be down loaded from the osgeo wiki and
printed per activity. Shopping hard copy around the globe leaves us with

[OSGeo-Discuss] Tell World Leaders: We Must Unlock the Data Needed to Feed the Hungry

2016-09-15 Thread Suchith Anand
Dear colleagues,

Nearly 800 million people struggle with hunger worldwide. We have the
knowledge, the tools and the data to lower this figure to 0 - but this can only
happen if everyone has equal access to data. Access to research and data is
crucial to feeding the world's hungry. World leaders and the brightest minds in
agriculture and data are currently in New York for the GODAN Summit 2016 to
make agricultural and nutrition data free for farmers around the world.

The largest-ever event dedicated to open data and agriculture, the GODAN summit
will take place on the margins of the UN General Assembly in New York. The aim
will be to urge world leaders to open their national datasets on agriculture
and nutrition to help bring hunger around the world to an end. Experts from
around the world have gathered to discuss opening vital data on agriculture and
nutrition to millions who don't have access. We are convinced that the solution
to eliminating hunger lies within existing, but often unavailable, agriculture
and nutrition data.

The Global Open Data for Agriculture and Nutrition (GODAN) initiative is
committed to closing this unacceptable hunger gap by making agriculture and
nutrition data available, accessible and useable to everyone. Portions of the
event will be LIVE webcast. So those interested can watch . Details are at the
GODAN Summit 2016 website http://summit.godan.info Videos from the event will
be posted on the GODAN YouTube Channel.

We need your help to help farmers get the data they need and help end hunger.
We call on you to support this global action to get every government,
non-governmental, international and private sector organization to make
agriculture and nutrition data available, accessible and usable.

The Global Open Data for Agriculture and Nutrition (GODAN)
http://www.godan.info/ initiative was announced in 2013 and aims to bring
countries together to harness the massive amounts of data to solve hunger
problems, benefit farmers, and address consumer health issues. GODAN seeks to
support global efforts to make agricultural and nutritionally relevant data
available, accessible, and usable for unrestricted use worldwide. By empowering
stakeholders and world leaders to enable action, GODAN works to unlock the data
necessary to solve the challenge of global food insecurity.

Make your voice heard at http://summit.godan.info/petition

I will be sharing Geo4All ideas on the importance of Openness in research at
the GODAN Summit tomorrow (16 Sep at 1:30 local time). Details at
http://summit.godan.info/schedule/

I look forward to your active support.

Best wishes,

Suchith

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] [Election 2016] Board Nomination for Massimiliano Cannata

2016-09-15 Thread Dr. Sarawut Ninsawat

Dear All,

I am delighted to learn that Maxi is standing for reelection to the
OSGeo Board.

I have know Maxi since the first FOSS4G conference held in Bangkok in 2004.
I was a student that time and the interaction with Maxi was one of the
big motivation for me to take up on FOSS4G for my research and subsequently
in my teaching.

It is really a pleasure to discuss with Maxi as he is full of ideas and
completely devoted
to the Free and Open Source philosophy. Maxi has implemented several
projects in
Asia including Thailand and also played a vital role at conferences,
workshops and

seminars to spread the use of FOSS4G.

I would like to express my strong support for his nomination and look
forward

to his continued contribution to the OSGeo foundation in the capacity as
a Board Member.

Best of luck to Maxi

Dear Cro,

please find bellow my nomination.

Hello OSGeo community,
I would like to nominate Massimiliano Cannata aka "Maxi" from
Switzerland

as board member.

Maxi is the leader of the geomatic division from the institute of
Earth
Sciences SUPSI. I had the pleasure of working with Maxi on the
OSGeo board
and greatly admire his dedication to the OSGeo community, logical
approach
and a keen knack of getting things done. He is deeply involved in
OSGeo and

FOSS4G at various level and is always willing to help and provide his
relevant input on so many different topics, which sounds very
important for
a board member. He has proved his dedication to OSGeo during his
term by

being always constructive in the discussion and taking part of various
committees, such as the United Nations committee for which he is
now the
co-chair. He is also involved in various projects at various level,
the
first which come to my mind is the istSOS project that he is
leading with
his team and his growing community, a workshop for istSOS is
handled every
year for at least 3 years during the FOSS4G. He is also involved in
the
ZOO-Project PSC since 2010 and was in the GRASS PSC from 2006 to
2016. His
amazing knowledge about how things works in OSGeo or should work
for the
better, his dedication and his capability to work and discuss
openly with
different kind of people prove that he is a real asset for the
OSGeo board.
