Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] [Board] [Election 2017] Board Nominations

2017-09-26 Thread Jody Garnett
A couple notes:

We recently revisited the board member manifestos when asking directors for
a status update on their own activities:
https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Face_to_Face_Meeting_Paris_2017#2._Director_Update

This makes for excellent background reading ahead of the nomination process.

While a couple hours a week is a starting point for a director, how much
time it actually takes depends on your leadership style and what needs to
be accomplished in a given year. One of the big things in a volunteer
organization (much like taking part in a project steering committee) is
filling in gaps either with inspiring our community, participating
yourself, or delegation. All of these leadership techniques, even
delegation, take time.

The questions asked of candidates
:

   - About me
   - My vision
   - What you have done within the community in the past
   - What your interests are in terms of the board
   - Any things that you would like to change or introduce
   - What role you would wish to fulfil on the board (if any)

The board has a number of responsibilities in our organization; while the
last question touches on this aspect of being a director the "if any" does
indicate the full weight of responsibility.

Thanks Marc, if you can check in on the marketing committee list we have a

If anyone on the discussion list catches anything we missed please let us
know before this "sign-off" motion closes on Monday Oct 2nd. We would like

Dear all,

I'd like to let you know that all the nominated persons got seconded (no veto
recorded) and after the board formal approval they will all be officially
recognized as OSGeo charter members. However, because of the large number of
nominations, we a slight delay in our 2017 elections initial schedule. That's
why I propose you to postpone until next Monday the start of the new board
members elections. This will give us time to properly update the charter member
database and for the board to validate the new members. Also, due to the high
number of emails managed by the CROs during the last weeks, one nomination was
not processed. We would like to express our most sincerer apologies for this
unfortunate situation. To fix this, we propose to make an exception, to accept
the nomination and to allow 24 hours for the community to review/second the
nomination.

Thank you all for supporting OSGeo!

Dear all,

Please let us give you some updates on the membership process (charter members
nomination) [1]. Until now we got 50 nominations. 40 nominees already confirm
the nomination and that was reflected on this mailing list and the New Member
Nominations 2017 wiki page [2]. Please be aware that the table is not
reflecting yet all the endorsements received by the nominees. It's quite
challenging to keep up with that. This information will be updated during the
weekend and one more time before the nomination period end. Also, the user
profile link was not included for the nominees. This will also be reviewed
during the weekend. Some people raise concerns about the phrase "be aware of
and protect against a hostile takeover of OSGeo". The reasons for this wording
were explained by some of our colleagues here and the subject will be included
in one of the next board meetings. That's all for the moment. Thank you for

That was a typo on 2017 list so maybe the CROs will need to take a look too.

I've updated also the small report on CM demographics available here

confirm and share the results.

*All* the candidates[1][2] are accepted as all of them:

- were nominated by an existing charter member;
- were seconded by at least one charter member;
- no veto votes registered.

Hence, it is our pleasure to welcome our 78 candidates to the OSGeo
Charter Membership, increasing its size to a total of 390 individuals.
Congratulations!

New members, we encourage you all to update your wiki profiles with the
Charter Member badge[3], adding yourselves to the category[4] and
finally if you have not yet done so, add your profile to the OSGeo
Advocates list[5].

We will inform the board for formal acceptance of the list, update the official

members to the charter-members list[7]
as soon as possible.
