[OSGeo-Discuss] A new gvSIG Mobile is already available. The open source mobile GIS of the gvSIG Suite
Hi all, the new gvSIG Mobile, the open source GIS application for field data gathering,has been released. The application is available for Android devices, andcan be installedfrom ‘Google Play’ [1]. The new gvSIG Mobile is based on Geopaparazzi, and was born with the aim of having a mobile GIS application for professionals, having different tools that facilitate its integration with the rest of the gvSIG Suite. For example, it has a data importer and exporter from/to gvSIG Online. Besides, the next version of gvSIG Desktop will include a plugin that will allow data dumping between both applications. With this new version it will be possible to carry out census or inventories, update or audit information and all of that integrated with the SDI. You can gather field data, edit existing data, attach images, notes or sketches to geolocated elements, etc. Without forgetting the ability to have forms that make gathering easier. Hi all, we have launched a free course about Geographic Information Systems applied to Municipality Management through several video-tutorials. At this post you can see the list of topics and the first module, that is available already in [1] At the next weeks we will publish the other modules, that we will include at this playlist: [2] The first two modules are theoretical, about differences between GIS and CAD, and reference systems, very important to understand the rest of the course. From the third one, the modules will be practical, and the cartography will be available for each video. In addition, when the course is finishing it will be possible to get the official certificate given by the gvSIG Association, where it will be obligatory to send a complete exercise. Thank you Dirk! That's good news. We think that it will be very useful for them. We plan to publish one video per week during December excepting the last week, and then two videos per week. And the course is extendable, if there's a new feature that we consider important to add we would record a new video. Let us know about other relevant modules that you consider and we study them. Hi all, gvSIG Desktop 2.4, the new version of the open source Geographic Information System, is now available. Hi all, the free registration period for the 3rd gvSIG Festival is now open. The gvSIG Festival is a virtual conference about the open source GIS "gvSIG" that will be held in March 21st and 22nd. During the Festival there will be several presentations in English and Spanish, including a presentation about how to use gvSIG Mobile, the GIS application for mobile devices for field data gathering, different succesful case studies of gvSIG Online (for municipality or emergency management) or how to apply gvSIG in the field of archaeology or mining. [OSGeo-Discuss] GIS applied to municipality management: Certification and links to the complete free course
Hi all, the certification of the course about Geographic Information Systems applied to municipality management as well as the links to the complete course are now available. This certification period is opened after the publishing of the last modules of the course, but it will be open continuously, so that any user can get it at any moment when the different modules are finished. The course is totally free, through 24 videotutorials where the different tools available in gvSIG Desktop for municipality management are shown, apart from how to use gvSIG Mobile, the mobile application for census, inventory, inspections... management. At the end of the course there are several modules about gvSIG Online, the integral platform to create Spatial Data Infrastructures, that allows to manage a municipality internally in an efficient way as well as to publish cartography to be consulted by the citizens. To get this certification, a complete exercise must be completed, and it has a minimum cost of € 30, necessary to cover the expenses related to the evaluation and certification. The user will get two certificates: - Course completion certificate, which will include all the information related to the training contents acquired. - Official gvSIG User certificate, having completed the 90 credits necessary for this. [OSGeo-Discuss] The 4th gvSIG Festival (the online GIS conference) is coming
Hi all, for the fourth year running we launch the gvSIG Festival, the online conference in which anyone in the world with an Internet connection can attend or participate as a speaker. The event will be held in March 27th and 28th 2019. This year we want to make a special appeal to the group of women who are part of the gvSIG Community. We would like that a large percentage of the presentations of this 4th Festival are given by you, so we encourage you to present your proposals. In the gvSIG project we have always wanted to work and contribute our bit in the fight against gender discrimination. In internal debates we have always taken into account that within a movement such as open source software, and the values associated to it, the obvious absence of women should be worrying. And maybe it’s the biggest problem. That should be worrying and it is not. The sector of open source geomatics, and gvSIG, do not escape these dynamics either. Even significant progress, there’s an obvious absence of women in our collective. And the worst thing, we not only find that there are only a few initiatives that allow to create spaces to favour their integration, but it seems that it is not necessary. And even if it’s only a little that we can contribute, we would like to start working on this small step to help to reverse this situation. gvSIG festivals are open to any presentation related to the project, from anywhere in the world and in any language. Hi all, the new gvSIG Mobile version, the Geographic Information System for Android systems for field data gathering, is now available to install from Google Play Store [1]. You can consult the novelties of this new version at the project website [2]. gvSIG Mobile is the application that allows you to map points using customized forms that include pictures, drop-outs, sketches …, which can be easily exported for a more advanced analysis in gvSIG Desktop, the open source Desktop Geographic Information System that is also part of the gvSIG Suite together with gvSIG Online. These forms can be created from gvSIG Desktop in an easy way. Among the most important gvSIG Mobile tools there are tiles importing, bookmarks importing, vector data export and editing through Spatialite, WMS servers loading… If you want to learn how it works you just have to install it on your Smartphone and follow this video [3]. Hi Jochen, in gvSIG there's a Dyschromatopsia / colour blindness extension available. At this post you can find more information about it: https://blog.gvsig.org/2015/01/09/gvsig-2-1-dyschromatopsia-colour-blindness-extension/ It's shown for gvSIG 2.1 but it's available at the last version (gvSIG 2.4) too. In addition, about icons and text size, from gvSIG 2.5 (that is in stabilization process and the first builds are now available to test) it can be done. In reference to icons, apart from changing the icons set it's possible to increase their size (changing the scale from the preferences). And about font size of the application, it can be changed too. It's available for gvSIG 2.5, but if needed for gvSIG 2.4 a little change can be done for it. [OSGeo-Discuss] New gvSIG 2.5 version is now available
Hi all, gvSIG 2.5, the new gvSIG Desktop version, is now available to download with a lot of new features and improvements. Some of these developments imply, by themselves, improvements of great relevance. All of them multiply the potential of gvSIG Desktop as we haven’t seen until now. Some of the main novelties are the expressions editor, the report generator or the new topology framework. These novelties as well as the other ones of this version can be consulted at gvSIG blog [1]. gvSIG 2.5 version can be downloaded from Downloads section at gvSIG Project website [2]. You can access to "Labels defined by user" and at "Placement" button you can select how you want to show the labels (Orientation, Location, Duplicates...).
