Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] OSGeoLive translation effort

2020-12-23 Thread Nicolas Roelandt
Hi,

Thanks for helping us translate OSGeoLive.

Yes, issues regarding OSGeollive needs to be filed using trac.
For typos and corrections in the documentation, you can modify the .rst
files on GitHub and make a pull request.
No need to update the .po files, we will generate them with Sphinx before
pushing changes to Transifex.

Documentation files should be pretty stable now, only typos and minor fixes.

Yes, the deadline is January 3rd for the integration in the ISO, but the
online version is updated periodically so you can continue the translation
after this date.

Ganbatte kudasai !

[OSGeo-Discuss] OSGeoLive translation effort

2020-12-05 Thread Nicolas Roelandt
Hello from OSGeoLive team!

OSGeoLive 14.0 is aimed to be released at the end of January 2021.
We reached alpha2, new projects have been included and documentations
updated.

We don't expect major changes now in the files except for typos that might
be discovered during the translation process.
So now is the good moment to help us translate OSGeoLive.
And we would like to thank you for that.

Hungarian and Spanish are almost complete, German, French and Japanese are
very advanced and other languages are making great progress.
So thanks to our contributors and translators, please keep the effort.

If you want to join the translation effort, it is all done onto the
Transifex plateforme:
https://www.transifex.com/osgeo/osgeolive

You're all welcome.

Thanks,

Nicolas for the OSGeoLive project

Hi Suchith,

Thanks for your kind words and inform us that OSGeoLive will be used in
AgriGIS programs.
The more OSGeoLive is used, the more it gave sense to the work of OSGeoLive
contributors and projects.

That is a great news for the OSGeoLive project !

[OSGeo-Discuss] Publication of the book "SIG – Introduction à la géomatique et mise en place d’un système d’information géographique libre"

2019-08-22 Thread Nicolas Roelandt
Hi all,

Today is published my first book "SIG – Introduction à la géomatique et
mise en place d’un système d’information géographique libre"

That you can translate to "GIS - Introduction to GIS and implementation of
free GIS".
(too much GIS in this title)

It is in French and show a complete processing run through with QGIS,
PostGIS, GeoServer and Leaflet. All captures were done in OSGeoLive and an
appendix shows how to create an OSGeoLive virtual machine.

[OSGeo-Discuss] OSGeoLive reaching Beta, in translation point of view

2018-07-26 Thread Nicolas Roelandt
Dear OSGeoLive users and translators,

We are acceding beta stage with OSGEOLive 12.0, right on tracks for FOSS4G.

So you can help us translate the documentation before releasing.

With the new Transifex process, we choose a goal of all overviews
translated in a
language for that language to be included in the Live ISO.

Please join us at https://www.transifex.com/osgeo/osgeolive/

Available languages:
- Spanish
- German
- French
- Hungarian
- Italian
- Portuguese
- Chinese (Taiwan)
- Russian
- Polish
- Bengali
- Catalan
- Hindi
- Dutch
- Japanese
- Finnish
- Greek
- Estonian

At the moment, only English, Spanish, German and French will be included
but you
can change that before 2018/08/13 !
And if all overviews are done, help us translate quickstarts of our beloved
projects !

Thanks again for your efforts to help us make OSGeoLive a great tool for
most.

[OSGeo-Discuss] [OSGeoLive Docs] June 2018 news

2018-06-25 Thread Nicolas Roelandt
Hi dear translators and OSGeoLive users,

We are proud to announce that we linked the Transifex platform to the
Github repository so when when the documentation files will be updated on
Github, Transifex will fetch them a few hours later.

We are now working integrating the automated documentation building in the
OSGeoLive ISO building process and reducing the doc size in order to save
space. So that is good news !

We would like to thank you for the work done here and to encourage you
continue this work here.

Some people have suggested creating local or regional language variants,
such as Mexican Spanish (es_MX), and that's great. This was discussed this
at our OSGeo-Live PSC weekly meeting, and the general feeling was that
while this is something we could tackle later; it is something we probably
should postpone until after we have the main languages completed.

If you haven't registered to transifex go to: https://www.transifex.com

You will find OSGeoLive project here:
https://www.transifex.com/osgeo/osgeolive/dashboard/

You need to ask to be a translator on the transifex webpage, or send us an
email with your login name so we can send you an invitation

[OSGeo-Discuss] Advocacy for Advocates

2018-05-27 Thread Nicolas Roelandt
Hi everyone,

Last month, I was able to attend the Ubuntu Convention (UbunCon) Europe in
Gijon (Spain).

There was a lot of very good quality presentation and one catch my
attention. This one was made by Nathan Haines about Advocacy for Advocates
<https://people.ubuntu.com/~nhaines/documents/events/2018/ubucon-europe/Advocacy%20for%20Advocates.odp>
.

It is very simple, a few strong word concepts on how to advocate on FOSS. I
think it can be interesting for community. Because it is addressing some
issues we have, comfort us in some good things we do and it might enlight
some things we missed.

Nathan was kind enough to give access to his presentation (with notes in
the .odp one) [1], so if you can take 5 minutes to read it, please do.

Cheers from France,

[OSGeo-Discuss] OSGeoLive translation on Transifex is now fully active

2017-12-01 Thread Nicolas Roelandt
Hi dear OSGeo members,

We are pleased to announce that the testing OSGeoLive translation on
Transifex is over and that it is now fully active.

We would like to thanks to all the translators who helped us testing it.

Now we can translate OSGeoLive safely. So we are calling for translators to
help us translating, but not only ! Please join us there [1].

We also need reviewers and coordinators for most languages, please contact
Nicolas at first if you want to volunteer for those positions.
A lot of languages are enough advanced (French, Hungarian, Spanish,
Italian) to start reviewing already.

Once again thanks to all the people helping translate the OSGeoLive
project.

Best regards,

Vicky Vergara and Nicolas Roelandt

for the OSGeo-Live translation team

2017-10-26 Thread Nicolas Roelandt
Congratulations for all the new (and not so new) board members.

Thanks to all candidats who volunteer as being a board member, that is a
big commitment and I hope you will keep bringing that energy into FOSS(4G).

Thanks Vasile for the amazing work as CRO. Especially this year with all
those unforeseen developments.

I'm really looking to work with the OSGEO community this year.

Best regards,

Nicolas Roelandt

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] [Projects] [OSGeo-Live] Moving to Transifex - step 2 - Battle testing

2017-10-24 Thread Nicolas Roelandt
Hi,

Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately, I didn't know about those
alternatives (and I presume that the rest of the team too, since no one
suggested them).
It is also the same bias as github, where everybody knows it so it is also
a bit more attractive too people.
Some of us also had worked on transifex for other FOSS projects, so we had
this knowledge to help us set up the whole process.

It is a bit late now to see how it works, ask SAC to provide an instance
and test its integration with sphinx.
But it will be studied if we plan to leave Transifex in the future.

Best regards,

Nicolas Roelandt
OSGeo-Live team.

[OSGeo-Discuss] [OSGeo-Live] Moving to Transifex - step 2 - Battle testing

2017-10-23 Thread Nicolas Roelandt
Dear OSGeo members and contributors,

We are excited to announce that after many months work, we have set up the
Transifex platform to run OSGeo-Live translations [1], and we want help
battle testing it in several languages.

Transifex will hugely simplify and improve the sustainability of our
translation experience (over our previous manual spreadsheet / git / .rst
process).

It offers machine translation.
It provides a review process.
It shows us what is changed in the English doc version.
It shows translation progress

What is involved

We describe what to do in our first draft of the translator guide [2]. For
testing the infrastructure, translated files are needed. You can translate
based on the priority mark, or on the amount of lines to be translated, or
complete a translation that someone else started, or start with your own
project. Note that we already marked files that don't need translation.

Please tell us if the guide makes sense. (The guide is probably more for a
reviewer than for a translator.) If the images below don't show in your
mail, they are included in our translator guide [2]

They are mark with a red >> on the left.

After that testing phase, we will work on translating included projects,
where people from the projects can help us.

Those files generally start by overview-- or quickstart-- and are mark with
an orange >

https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/File:OSGEo-Live_transifex_02_second_priority.png

The files marked with a green dash don't need to be translated (and would
be retired at some point).

https://wiki.osgeo.org/images/thumb/9/95/OSGEo-Live_transifex_03_retired_files.png/500px-OSGEo-Live_transifex_03_retired_files.png

Best way to start is to filter for v11 files and descending priority:

Link to image:
https://wiki.osgeo.org/images/thumb/3/3c/OSGEo-Live_transifex_04_priority.png/500px-OSGEo-Live_transifex_04_priority.png

As you can see on the dashboard [3], we already have 8 languages registered
waiting for translators:

- finnish
- french
- german
- greek
- japanese
- polish
- spanish
- Mexican spanish

If you can help us translating those languages, or help us with another,
please create an account on transifex and join us.

Pro. tip: you can copy/paste translations from current documentation [4] or
from github [5] and check whether it still fits in with the string to
translate.

If you have any question, please join us through the Transifex platform, on
IRC or on the OSGeo-Live mailing list [6].

Best regards,

Vicky Vergara and Nicolas Roelandt
