Dear Frans,

Prof. Behr is right that we were invited through this mailing list.
I was there on the first day of the AGSE 2012 to accompany my colleague
presented his research. Too bad that I could not join the FOSS4G-SEA meeting
due to business reason.

Maybe we can initiate the OSGEO Indonesian Chapter meeting?
FYI, the Indonesia Ministry of Research and Technology is currently working
to implement and promote the use of open source GIS for the R D agencies
in Indonesia. We held three days national workshop earlier this month in
Surakarta
and it will be followed by regional workshops later this year.

Kind regards,

I believe it is very important to facilitate the growth of new, strong
communities where they are still missing. In a way, nominating Angelos is
for me a way to support the activity that he and his fellow Greek OSGeo
members are already carrying on, showing that OSGeo cares globally about
local initiatives as much as the local communities care about global
 developments (again, software).

I second Angelos' nomination for all the reasons expressed by Cameron and
Stefano. I also welcome any surely worthwhile interaction between the
growing Greek FOSS4G community and our Italian OSGeo local chapter
(GFOSS.it) i.e. in the organization of a joint event, also (why not?)
involving the whole Mediterranean area.

Thanks,
madi

Hi All,

A question really to previous FOSS4G organisers- did you think about having
a theme for the event, or did you just stick with the Free and Open Source
Software for Geospatial tag-line and leave it at that? Do people think
that conference themes are useful/beneficial? Do they help with coming up
with clearly defined tracks for papers?

Thanks

Jo

OSGeo Community,

It is time to once again nominate new OSGeo charter members. We need you
to pick out the folks you think would bring energy and interest to the
OSGeo mission and bring their names forward!

Only OSGeo members can vote for OSGeo directors, and only OSGeo members
can *be* OSGeo directors, so membership is a necessary gateway to more
official involvement in the organization.

The process for Member selection is outlined here:

  http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Election_2011#Charter_Member_Election

This year we are adding 20 new charter members and the deadline for
nominations is November 17, 2010.

Please confirm with the nominated person first and send your nominations
to cro at osgeo.org, outlining the name and contact e-mail of your
nominee(s) and and paragraph describing why you are recommending this
person as a Charter Member.

Please also feel free to cc: the nomination to the OSGeo discussion list
- discuss at lists.osgeo.org - so the community can be nudged along and
have a sense of what is going on.

The new Member election will be held in the succeeding week and close on
November 27. The results will be announced two days after that.

Thanks,

Daniel Morissette
OSGeo Chief Returning Officer, 2011

Hi all,

I want to nominate Pedro-Juan Ferrer[1][2] for the Charter Member election.

Pedro-Juan has been really active at OSGeo and specially OSGeo Spanish
Language Local Chapter (OSGeo-es) for the last years. He is member of
the Board of Directors of OSGeo-es and the Liason Officer between the LC
and the Foundation since the beginning of the LC.

He is also giving a hand at our new group at Valencia area so his is
workin from local to global, I think we need more active profiles like
him at the Charter Membership, also to increase the voice of the Spanish
spoken world at OSGeo.

I hope you consider my nomination, even after watching the video :-)

Best regards.

Folks,

With regard to the following Speaking up for Geography Holly Glaser
suggests:

I love the idea of contacting representatives about the importance of
geography
education. I’m writing to you so all the representatives receive their mail
before or on GIS Day.

There’s one flaw in your method of contacting elected representative:
letters
sent now will be delivered at the end of December -too late for GIS Day.

All paper letters/small packages sent to congress are held by the post
office
where they get inspected for explosives/anthrax and so on. I was told that
this delays mail between 3-6 weeks.

Best regards,

Hello,

Following the francophone QGIS days this week I am adding presentation files
in
the OSgeo library.

I find this item which looks like spam [1] (links to external website). I
unpublished it but can we also block the user (smebs).

If you think this is not spam (but seems quiet obvious to me), we can
publish
it again.

Thanks,

Y.

Dear colleagues,

I'm working on a MIUR project (leadership and educational Institutions) for a
competition at work - http//:www.miur.it.

(I phase: Costruire un “elaborato” attinente al profilo e alla funzione del DS
- leaderschip and educational Institution;
I am thinking about open sources too.
 Just an example: http://www.mimos.it/dsimday/Abstract_LoTauro.pdf

My goal is to simply share something I'm already preparing for work with
others.

This is a work in progress (e.g. II phase: come sviluppare la soluzione di un
caso relativo alla gestione delldi una istituzione educativa). This may
involves ICT and geomatics

Thanks a lot for you feed-back (PREZIOSO :-)

best regards

Any language or package  example no problem.
Does anyone did it in R?

I have some (old) material here:

It is using rpart() but the syntax is pretty similar to randomForest().

Hope this helps

I'm working on a GIS tutorial using OpenJUMP for my CAD users at work.
We are working through lessons on well site selection for a fictional
irrigation district to start. Other lesson groups will deal with other
aspects of the irrigation district operation. We'll be using some real
data sets, but parcel owner names and addresses will be changed. No
previous knowledge of GIS or OpenJUMP is required to get started with
the tutorials, although some basic knowledge of coordinate systems and
mapping would be helpful.

I'd like to put each lesson up on the OSGeo wiki. All of the data for
the tutorial will be placed in the public domain, as will the tutorial
documentation itself. I could put the tutorial up on my own web page,
but I'd like to give other OSGeo folks a chance to improve and
collaborate on the tutorial.

I was going to link to the tutorial from the OSGeo California Chapter
page. Is there a better place for it? Is there any problem with my
putting the tutorial lessons on the wiki? (I can host the actual GIS
data sets for the tutorial myself and link to them from the wiki.)

My goal is to simply share something I'm already preparing for work with
others.

Thanks.

Landon
