[OSGeo-Discuss] New OSGIS book available...
In case you didn't read the spam elsewhere already... see below :) This is the first book I've pushed out via my new company focused on open source geo books. Part of the impetus for us to get this book back into print (and keep it there!) was so educators could have a broad, yet deep, OSGIS resource at their disposal for courses. My other goal is to be able to support consultants with material they can use in training their clients. Drop me a note if you'd like more information, see below, or visit http://locatepress.com/books/geospatial-desktop I'd love to hear how it could be made more useful for you! (sorry for HTML email but it was easiest for passing along the urls) Tyler The Geospatial Desktop Open Source GIS Mapping By Gary Sherman Now available on Amazon! Locate Press is proud to bring this work back into print by releasing this updated edition. Originally known as Desktop GIS: Mapping the Planet with Open Source Tools this popular book quickly sold out and was out of print for far too long. If you are looking for a very readable and reliable text for learning more about open source mapping desktop applications, this is the book for you. See Gary’s website dedicated to the book – GeospatialDesktop.com to learn more About the Book and to see an Annotated Chapter List. Sign up for the Locate Press Geospatial Desktop Newsletter for updates and news (right sidebar). Description Desktop Geographic Information System (GIS) software gives you the ability to make maps and analyze geographic information. This book provides a foundational level of knowledge for understanding GIS and the open source desktop mapping applications that are available for use, for free, today. Learn about vector and raster data, how to convert data, interacting with spatial databases, creating new map data, geoprocessing, scripting, and more. Special sections include focused learning on the Quantum GIS and GRASS GIS software platforms but other packages are also introduced. The Geospatial Desktop is written by the creator of Quantum GIS, so you can rest assured that you will be led by one of the most knowledgeable authors on the subject. - Tyler Mitchell, Publisher Locate Press, i...@locatepress.com Open Source geo Books http://www.locatepress.com ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] New OSGIS book available...
Thanks a lot guys, it's been a year in the making. Hoping to get a couple more out this year. Honestly though, working with Gary is a breeze, so I got it easy for my first one :) I really appreciate the kind words, thank you. Tyler On 2012-01-25, at 6:44 PM, Daniel P.
