Are there any details new members should know?

I've just put in a subscription request for the Board list
(http://lists.osgeo.org/pipermail/board/). Looks like that is pending
approval.

Paul,
thanks again for organizing the board elections. It is great that we
could get this done in time prior to FOSS4G so that the new board can
meet there in real life. This promises to become a very productive meeting.

Howard, Ari,
thanks to both of you for serving on the board for two full years and we
hope to continue to see you give advice to the OSGeo board in your
specific domains. We will lack the European and education background of
Ari and miss Howard's direct engagement from our systems committee.

Tim and Daniel,
welcome to the board and be prepared for lots of activities in the
coming months. We need to look into funding and acquire new and more
sponsors. The local chapters of OSGeo are developing great but many
would like to see a closer relation to the OSGeo Foundation. The public
geodata committee is developing interesting ideas around cataloging that
could turn into a new OSGeo service and last but not least we will want
to improve the incubation process to better serve the projects and the
users.

All,
thanks all for trusting me with another term on the board of directors
and I am excited to get going with the new team. See (hopefully most of
you) in Barcelona.

Best regards,
Arnulf.

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] Re: OSGeo Board Election 2010 Results

2010-09-03 Thread Tyler Mitchell
Hi Tim,
I'm sure we'll talk lots more about your questions shortly but a couple things
while I have a few minutes...

I don't recall the board list requiring approval. Note there are a couple
other lists with the term 'board' in them I think, maybe you chose to join one
lof those accidentally. I will double check for you though.

It's worth noting on the discuss list that *EVERYONE* is welcome to join the
board list and participate in discussions there:
http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/board

There is also a rarely used private board alias used that one of us with
systems access will have to add you guys to.

The board meets once a month in IRC. To vote on some items/motions they will
also flip over to use a skype call to vote by voice when needed. The president
acts as chair and I usually take the minutes and try to rally any stragglers.

Meeting agendas and minutes are all posted on the wiki:
http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Board

That's probably enough for now and any time you can put into the face to face
meeting will be very useful too. A few scheduling/announcement items have
fallen through the crack this past month as a couple of us have been on
extended holidays. Sorry for not laying this stuff out sooner!

Best wishes, see you soon.
Tyler

Thanks for the thanks. It has been an honor to serve. However, I still
plan to attend the board f2f in Barcelona and I will follow OSGeo
matters and, in case I see the need, present them to the board.

Now that you mention Europe, I do think we have a good community here,

Congratulations to the new Board with new and old members!
