Kalimera Dimitris,
You can find some information in the report: Summary Report on the Status of
Environmental Monitoring and Reporting in Europe:
http://www.nesis.eu/documents/d3.1.sop_report_revised%20version_v6.1_100331.
pdf One of the indicators addresses FOSS. The report focuses rather on
country- ans EU-wide extent. Same for NESIS' Good Practices catalogue:
http://www.nesis.eu/documents/D2.6_NESIS_Good_Practice_2010.03.29_v1.2_fin.p
df

You can find some sources also in the documentation and evaluation od FOSS4G
software projects, done by the CASCADOSS Project - a bit out of date (2008):
http://www.cascadoss.eu/en/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=9&Itemi
d=11 . You can find some references In the documentation files.

Dear all,

I have to make a presentation on the use (and if possible some best
cases) of open source GIS software by and from regional governments and
municipalities.
If you have such presentations or links please let me know.

Thanks in advance,

Dimitris

I don't know whether you consider Computer-Aided-Dispatch (CAD) under the
rubric of "GIS software", but our project, Tickets CAD, certainly does
integrate data with mapping/geo technology. And it's free, and Open Source
predominantly, See at www.ticketscad.org.

And it is being used in some public safety operations. I will have to poll
our users for permission to provide site names.

Please understand the political ramifications of such usage: An agency has
years of unsuccessfully requesting budget $ for the purchase of a commercial
CAD product, which they demonstrably need, and now - suddenly - a free one
surfaces. Best is probably to do it quietly and avoid raised eyebrows and
questions.

(CAD may well be among the earliest examples of such integration.)

Hello Dimitris,

A non-exhaustive but still quite comprehensive list for Italian local
governments (not only regions and municipalities) is available here:

http://wiki.gfoss.it/index.php/Catalogo_WebGIS

a first version of this list was generated in late 2007, and fully
reviewed in 2009... right now I see there have been some updates, so
it should be ok.

Best regards,

Hi Dimitries,

I used open source GIS software (QGIS and GRASS) to generate brushfire risk
areas for the council that I work for here in Australia. Case study can be
found here:
