It's working. I don't know what it was. I left Slimserver disabled for the last couple of hours and just restarted the server and it's not being reported correctly by GSPlayer. While I don't know the details of how it works the silence that is "broadcast" while no music is playing is 320K. When the music starts it should then report the correct bitrate. ok - last question. I modified the bitrate settings to limit to 128Kb/s. However the PPC (GSplayer) still reports a 320Kb/s stream. I've reset the PPC and stopped and started the Slimstream server. The source media is AAC 192Kb/s. So by my understanding, setting the Maximum Bitrate for that player: - if an MP3 is 128Kb/s or lower it is sent without re-encoding. - if an MP3 file is >128Kb/s it is re-encoded to 128Kb/s and streamed. - if a file comes from another format (AAC for example) it is sent at 128Kb/s. Multitask haven't been good at responding to my emails (I don't think they've responded to any of them!). *However*, *when I've rung them they have been excellent*. Multitask have a newsletter that they send out whenever they have an update on the Squeezeboxes. Give them a ring and get them to make sure that you are on the list. I suspect that part of the reason behind the poor email response rate is because they assume that people are on the list so already have the information they need. I've now switched to a Black model and apparently can be hopeful of getting it in the first week of May, or next week if I'm lucky. All, I've just received the squeezebox2. Great little device! I've bought a sonic T-amp amplifier for it and it sounds great! However...When I try to play AAC music from my FreeBSD server, (which is most of my music collection), I can hear a sound like a constant wind in the background, which becomes intolerable when I increase the volume. The SB2 firmware image in the 6.0.2 nightly build has been bumped to revision 11 and the image in the 6.1 nightly has been bumped to 12. If you are running firmware 10, which has been included in the 6.1 nightlies for the last week or so, you may run into a problem upgrading to either of the new firmware revisions. The firmware upgrade progress bar will get to 100%, but the machine will not reboot. You will have to press and hold the Power button for the firmware revision to take. [slim] Re: Dying for Replaygain (aka Volume Normalization)
I have to agree that the SlimServer support of ReplayGain is a bit err...crappy. I mean, yes I have modded config files before and got it working, but the idea of ReplayGain is that it is switchable. e.g. I want to have a party or listen to random music I'd put my Slim in ReplayGain Radio mode. I want to really listen to a album I turn off all ReplayGain etc Having to mod/copy config files every time and reboot the server is quite frankly a pain in the behind so I gave up with it. Now I don't know Perl but surely something like this could be implemented: In the config file couldn't the following sort of change be made: [flac] -dcs --force-raw-format --endian=little --sign=signed --skip=$START$ --until=$END$ $REPLAYGAINPARAM$ -- $FILE$ Then the $REPLAYGAINPARAM$ variable is populated with either: "" (null) - Default, no replaygain. "--apply-replaygain-which-is-not-lossless=a" - Album mode "--apply-replaygain-which-is-not-lossless=t" - Radio mode The $REPLAYGAINPARAM$ variable gets populated with one of these 3 strings by a switch on the web interface and ideally from the box via the remote. But using the brower control it will not play AAC files. I click play and it flicks back over to stop. MP3 fine. AAC not working. These AAC files have no DRM. Just ripped into iTunes from CD. I did search and found some linux related hints but nothing specific to Mac OS X. (10.3.9). Any hints? Thanks. -- Howard2k ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: SB2 missing end of FLAC files
These are not single album files, they're file-per-track, and it's a lot more that 1/100th. It's a big enough skip that the music skips a beat, and it sounds bad. As I said, this only happens when playing flac to the SB2, the SB1 transcoding to pcm is fine, and every other software player (winamp, foobar, etc) it also fine with these files. Even the SB2 seems to work if I transcode the flac to some other formate before playing. -- radish ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Sorry, I see from your log that you do have LAME installed. QuickTime error -3000 (coming from mov123.exe) is errBadComponent. Perhaps you have to install a newer version of QuickTime? Re: [slim] Re: Windows Media & Surround sound
On Windows, we use a utility called wmadec to decode Windows Media files. The utility attempts to decode WMA to 44.1KHz 16-bit stereo PCM. I don't believe it's ever been tested with 5.1 audio and I can believe that it doesn't work (I presume you are expecting it to be transcoded to stereo, right?). [slim] Re: AAC with original SliMP3
I'm running SlimServer on a Win2K Server box. It's a SliMP3 problem -- the M4A files play in iTunes and the SliMP3 plays MP3s with no problems. I've installed QuickTime on the server PC (as instructed by the AAC entry in the Wiki), and now I just get silent playback rather than clicking. All three AAC formats are enabled in File Types (AIFF, Flac & MP3). Re: [slim] Dying for Replaygain (aka Volume Normalization)
From: "street_samurai" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I just wanted to write a brief post to say how much I'm missing Replaygain support in Slimserver. I've seen the bug reports/enhancement requestes and I've voted on them... I'm not sure what priority this feature has right now... but I write this to help bolster support for including this feature soon. I opened bug report 1311. I fully understand what replay gain is. I just wanted to point out that replay gain support *IS* available today with the SlimServer, and I'm using it today. Bug 1311 calls for the FLAC decoder in the Squeezebox2 to natively interpret replay gain tags. Without this, even though the SB2 understands FLAC files, you must transcode to the SB2 if you want/need replay gain. The reason: The FLAC decoder on my O/S understands replay gain, but the hardware decoder in the SB2 does not. So, in the end, I still have replay gain. I just can't use the native FLAC decoder on the SB2 - I must transcode. For MP3GAIN (at least the old MP3GAIN I used to use when I still used MP3): This actually modifies the sound volume in the MP3 source file. It looks like it now adds some tags to more easily undo what it has done. But if this is the same program: If you run MP3GAIN over your MP3 files, since the volume in the MP3 file has changed, the Slimserver will behave the way you want. End result: You can get replay gain support in FLAC today and MP3. For MP3, just run MP3GAIN, set it up for either album or song mode normalization, and you're set. For FLAC, customize the conversion file to include the --apply-replaygain-which-is-not-lossless=a qualifier, and you're set. Hope this clarifies, -- Jeff ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Hi there The remote uses the NEC format, timing, carrier etc. As mentioned by Marc, the codes can be found in Slim_Devices_Remote.ir or by running SlimServer with the --d_ir debug flag. [slim] Dying for Replaygain (aka Volume Normalization)
(before you point it out, I'm fully aware that Normalization is different than Replaygain but to many users they are the same thing) I just wanted to write a brief post to say how much I'm missing Replaygain support in Slimserver. I've seen the bug reports/enhancement requestes and I've voted on them... I'm not sure what priority this feature has right now... but I write this to help bolster support for including this feature soon. I love my Squeezebox/Slimserver combo. I can't get enough and my friends all want one too... the only annoyance I have is that I need to constantly have the remote around to adjust the volume of tracks when I'm playing multiple albums on random. What is ReplayGain? It makes your music come out of your stereo at (what you perceive to be) the same volume... without actually changing your music (see http://www.replaygain.org/ for more info). To add replaygain to your .flac files and .mp3 try http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/. OK, scrub that. After a bit more searching, I deduced that the geekport in an internal edge connector (IDC, perhaps?). Upon opening up the SB2, there is clearly no such connector, so it looks like the geekport is no longer an option. (My SB2 is a wired-only model, if that's relevant). That brings me back to the post referred to by Tom. It seems to imply that there is something in the offing that might send control signals out on the headphone socket, but that things are at an early stage. It's very difficult to find out any more information: searching the forums doesn't yield anything.
