[slim] Intel (especially) Mac users needed to help development
We are trying to get easy and reliable installation instructions for AlienBBC on Macs. We have what we think works ok, but need someone who is prepared to spend some time testing the instructions on an Intel Mac. This would need someone willing to create users on their machine, install and remove files, etc., but I can indicate what is needed. Further testing on a non-Intel Mac (G4, G5, or even G3) would be useful, too. -- danco danco's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=210 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24967 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Playback freezing
Seemingly out of the blue, my SB3 has started freezing during playback (playback stops and the SB3 display doesn't change), partway through songs. The behavior is consistent, altho I'm not sure yet whether the freeze occurs at a specific time-spot (# minutes/seconds), but the freeze/lock-up seems to occur at same point within a song consistently. For instance, one songs stops playing with about 49 seconds left, each of the 3 times I tried (on a 3 min 57 sec song). - happens wireless and wired - happened on 6.51b and now with 6.22, f/w 48, after an uninstall/reinstall - when wireless, signal strength is 90%+ Can't think of what I may have changed to cause this, altho around the same time I moved some of the stereo components around (disconnected, moved and reconnected. But I'm not sure why that could cause this behavior. How is this ability by itself the least bit useful to those people? I'm not knocking the feature, but I fail to understand how anyone could get excited by it. You connect a box to SqueezeNetwork through the web ui from a PC or your PDA. Then you pick up the remote and use the remote interface to connect to a feed. You could have more easily connected to SqueezeNetwork with the remote itself. -- JJZolx Jim JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24956 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Re: WAV to FLAC
I find the command line parameters to be simple enough so I just create a .bat file to invoke flac.exe such as this: flac --best -T artist="Yeah Yeah Yeahs" -T date="2003" -T album="Fever To Tell" -T tracknumber="09" -T title="Maps" -T genre="Rock" "C:\wav\wavs\Yeah Yeah Yeahs - 2003 - Fever To Tell - 09 - Maps.wav" >From a command line if you type "dir /s/w/b > wavs.txt" you'll get a listing of all wavs into 1 file. I use Excel to build the line above for each file. This is easy if your comfortable with the text to columns feature and then a simple formula. Once this is in Excel you can do touch-ups on the tags prior to creating the .bat file. If the file name is in column A, followed by artist, year, album, track, title and genre in columns B-G then paste this formula in column H: ="flac --best -T artist="""&B1&""" -T date="""&C1&""" -T album="""&D1&""" -T tracknumber="""&E1&""" -T title="""&F1&""" -T genre="""&G1&""" """&A1& copy the results of column H to a text file (notepad is fine) then save it with a .bat extension and run it while making sure flac.exe is in the same folder. This may seem complicated (and perhaps some of the UIs make this much easier) but I like the control over the process and the speed of making tag changes among the cells and using search/replace in Excel. -- zooropa320 2 Channel Setup: SB3 * Benchmark DAC1 * Classé Audio DR-15 mono blocks * Magnepan MG 3.5Rs * REL Strata III Music Server: Lian-Li PC-V2000B Case * Turbo-Cool 510 XE Power Supply * Tyan Thunder K8S Pro Motherboard * 3Ware 9500S-8 SATA RAID Card * 2 AMD Opteron 240 1.4GHz CPUs * 2 512MB PC3200 Corsair CAS 3 DRAMs * 8 250GB SATA Hitachi drives in RAID 5 http://www.last.fm/user/zooropa320/ zooropa320's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3420 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24873 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

What would be really cool is if the Squeezenetwork web interface had the full suite of controls, including the ability to disconnect from Squeezenetwork and go back to Slimserver. I have patio speakers for outdoor listening. When I use them the IR remote isn't an option since the SB is far away, so I use a laptop to control the music. But this means Squeezenetwork and Pandora are not an option, which is disappointing. I imagine anyone using anything besides the IR remote for SB control would feel the same way. -- rudholm rudholm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2980 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24956 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Just updated to the latest nightly in order to correct 'bug 2510' (http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2510). The largest difference I noticed was a very neat plugin - switch to SqueezeNetwork. It's prominently there on the home page. I tried it out - works flawlessly. It's the first SlimServer/SqueezeNetwork integration I've seen, it's been requested a few times, it's very visible on the home page and it works so well I'm surprised no one's commented on it. But despite several searches with different terms and manual browsing of the General Discussion, SqueezeNetwork and 3rd Party Plugins forums I can find no mention of it. So in case it's been missed - thanks developers! Great job. I've been using the 6.3 nightlies. Since the 18 June I have noticed that a good many of my tracks now have duplicate entries. I can see no logic as to why some tracks have duplicate entries and other don't. It appears random. In addition some albums (all compilations at a first glance) have multiple entries eg: Acoustic Songbook (disk 1) (2004) by Various Artists Acoustic Songbook (disk 1) (2004) by Various Artists Acoustic Songbook (disk 2) (2004) by Various Artists Acoustic Songbook (disk 2) (2004) by Bobby Womack Acoustic Songbook (disk 2) (2004) by Various Artists Acoustic Songbook (disk 3) (2004) by Various Artists Acoustic Songbook (disk 3) (2004) by Ralf McTell All my tracks are flac. I have no cue or playlists amongst my music folder and no shortcuts. I'm on XP Pro. Currently I am running a nighlty from last night. I have set "Group compilation albums together". The PC holding my 6.3 installation has never had 6.5 on it. I have tried deleting the database and rescanning from scratch to no avail.
