Re: [slim] Time/Date Format in 6.5.2

2007-06-02 Thread ceejay

Well, whether something was changed in the update depends on how exactly
it is that you managed to do (with 6.5.1) something that people think
you shouldn't have been able to! So lets try focussing on that.

First, do you still have the 6.5.1 installation or have you wiped it
out? If the latter, do you have a spare machine you could install it
onto for test/comparison purposes? That would really help people
diagnose what's going on here. Try setting it up and getting back to
where you were with the time format display. This will also enable a
positive confirmation that you can get the desired result without a
tweak (deliberate or accidental) post installation.

Then: what version, exactly, of the server software do you have?
(6.5.1 is not a full answer - go to server settings and look at
slimserver version).

Or, of course, you could just try Jim's suggested patch of the
slimserver.pref file...

[slim] Streaming CD Content

2007-06-02 Thread slutz

Hi,

I now have several Squeezeboxes. I also have lots of CDs. What I was
thinking about was streaming my CDs directly to the Squeezeboxes. That
means I am looking for some software that not only plays the CDs but
also creates a stream URL while playing. With that I could use the
Squeezeboxes to connect to that stream and listen to music coming from
my CD.

Does somebody know of such software?

Thanks,
-slutz

Appologies if you already know but Chandos Records have begun selling
WMA lossless recordings on line.

That's the good news. The bad news is that they are a couple of pence
more expensive than the CD's themselves but it's a start, pity they
haven't discovered flac.

Hi Mark
You could be on the right lines, last night I managed to transfer a

I then tried SoftSqueeze, this played for about 30 seconds then the

I may give the Ubuntu try as I can't see a way of sorting this other
than re-installing Windows again.

There seems to be no relation to the missing files and those that were

For instance an album will be listed in SS but it will only list 2 or 3

[slim] SBs running out of sync

2007-06-02 Thread slutz

Hi,

since 2 days I have three SBs. Yesterday I synchronized two of them.
At the beginning everything was fine but after about 15 min I noticed
some sort of echo. Thirty minutes later they had a difference of about
1-2 seconds. I paused several times but that did not help. I just
tried it again and after one hour they had a difference of about 2
seconds. Is there something I can tune so that they do really run in
sync?
I'm using 6.5.2 dedicated on a 3GHz linux box so I don't think it's a
matter of performance.

Any tips are welcome.

Thanks,
-slutz

Re: [slim] SBs running out of sync

2007-06-02 Thread aubuti

Are you playing individual tracks or internet radio? Internet radio will
drift out of sync sooner or later, but slimserver should re-sync at the
beginning of each track.

Are you running wired or wireless? Wireless can be harder to sync
because of interference from other devices, although again, it should
re-sync at the beginning of each track. If you are running wireless,
can you temporarily run them wired to see if it works any better?

SlimDevices is aware of the problem. You can vote for this bug
(http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=259). Also, there is work
being done to try to fix this -- there should be a couple threads over
in the Developers forum.

i was wanting to do it this way is because i want to use dchp server on

Yes, that's the way to do it. You don't need cross over cables.

You could also make a straight run from the basement to upstairs and
put your router there.

[slim] Slimserver 6.5.2 boots up iTunes

2007-06-02 Thread Evan_E

I've just upgraded to SlimServer 6.5.2 from 6.3.1, and while I like most
of the changes I've run across, I've got a weird thing going on that I
can't find reference to in these forums - every time SlimServer moves
to a new song, it boots up the copy of iTunes on the same machine. If I
turn off SlimServer in the middle of a song, it won't boot up iTunes,
but as soon as it moves to a new song, iTunes boots up in the
background.

Is there some way to stop this, or is this just something I have to
live with?

Details:
OS: Mac OS X 10.4.8
iTunes v. 6.0.4
machine: MacPro 2.7 GHz PPC, 3GB RAM
I'm having SlimServer use iTunes's library and playlists.

Re: [slim] SBs running out of sync

2007-06-02 Thread CatBus

That's not a good assumption. The fact that it's an old bug and that it
hasn't been fixed yet merely means that the bug is very complex to fix
correctly.

While sync works well in a general sense, there are lots of corner
cases: gapless playback, long tracks or streams, multiple classes of
device syncing, all of which can break the current implementation at
some level. Rather than working around each bug on its own, a complete
reengineering of the whole sync process is needed to really fix the root
problems. This is no small task, and someone is working on it. Whether
it'll be fixed in time to satisfy people is another question entirely,
but it's definitely getting attention.

Re: [slim] Streaming CD Content

2007-06-02 Thread erland

Check the Wave Input plugin announced recently in the third party
plugins section, when I read its description it sounds pretty close to
what you want.

Re: [slim] Music Magic Mood Logic Disabled - Help

2007-06-02 Thread kdf
Make that musicmagic is started before you start slimserver. Moodlogic
may have a corrupted db (happens a lot), so you need to start
moodlogic, wait for it to start and be dome with whatever it might do
then shut it down. Start slimserver up and hopefully it will work. if
not use the command prompt:

c:\program files\slimserver\server\slim.exe --d_plugins --d_moodlogic
--d_musicmagic.

As a side note, moodlogic support is not long for this world. The
application has always presented a problem and nothing as been done
with it in well over two years. Moodlogic support wont be in 6.5.3, so
it might be worth simply weening yourself off at this point and focus
on why musicmagic (MusicIP) is not showing as enabled.

Re: [slim] Time/Date Format in 6.5.2

Or, of course, you could just try Jim's suggested patch of the
 slimserver.pref file...

 Ceejay

OK. in /etc/slimserver.conf there was nothing beside the
screensaverTimeFormat: entry so I added |%I:%M which resolves the
problem.

I also noticed that the timeFormat: |%I:%M %p entry so removed the
%p part.

Obviously I'll have to edit this file anytime any config changes are
made.

Note to developers. In future updates, please give us the option to
not display AM/PM symbols.

Thanks for all your help.

[slim] FLAC crackle

2007-06-02 Thread exogenous

I have a FLAC file that plays fine on my laptop but on on my very new
Squeezebox it has occasional crackling sounds, sort of like static or
vinyl record crackling. I think it may be the high-frequency content.
Because it sounds fine played on my laptop I think the problem lies in
the Slimsever or Squeezebox.

I've searched the forums and have turned off the replay gain but it has
no effect. Converting the FLAC to a WAV did not reduce the crackling.
The crackling was almost gone when I converted to a variable bitrate
MP3 (about 256 average), but I think that was because the highs were
attenuated. I also reduced the volume from the Squeezebox to 50% but
it didn't help very much. The crackling always occurs in the same
places, not with high overall volume but the spectrum analyzer shows
lots of high frequency content.

I'm running SlimServer Version: 6.5.2 - 12047 - Debian - EN - utf8
under Ubuntu (Xubuntu) on a 1 Ghz AMD laptop with 256 MB RAM.

Any thoughts? I bought the Squeezebox to replace a Roku and apart from
this serious problem have been happy with the change.

Re: [slim] Delays from Amazon UK

2007-06-02 Thread JimC

robt;206139 Wrote:
I don't read these forums every day, but has there been any statement
from anyone connected with the company where they've said, yes, there
are big delays in Europe due to such-and-such a reason? If not, why
not? Surely a reason that causes a two month delay (mine was ordered on
31st March) warrants some kind of statement. If it's due to
manufacturing delays of a Logitech-branded box, then just tell us. Are
we talking approximately June, July, August, December? 2008? When?
Could someone from the company please say something about it?

I'm really looking forward to getting this box, and I'm sure I'll love
 it when (if) it arrives.

There's really no reason for there being a delay. We have been
transitioning to Logitech-branded Squeezeboxes, but have continued to
ship Slim Devices-branded versions without interruption.

As you've seen, there are units available in the UK, so I really don't
understand why Amazon can't supply. I've asked our Area Sales Manager
for the UK to contact Amazon and resolve why they don't have stock.
