Re: [slim] Squeezebox fades

2007-07-07 Thread ceejay

You have a marginal wireless network? Perhaps there is some
interference which is greater where the TP is, or maybe the different
aerials in the TP are proving that bit more effective for you?

First step is to try some different wireless channels - 1 or 11/13
(depending on where you are).

Re: [slim] Click sound in browser

2007-07-07 Thread bpa

From the FAQ page.

Detailed Description
How do I disable that click sound I hear anytime my browser reloads the
screen while using SlimServer?
Answer
Cause
This is a feature of Internet Explorer on Windows.
Solution

1. To turn off the click when exploring or clicking on hyperlinks,
2. navigate to Start Menu Control Panels Sounds and Multimedia (or
might be called Sounds and Audio Devices )
3. click on the Sounds tab.
4. Look for the sound settings for: Windows Explorer Start Navigation
and/or Windows Explorer Complete Navigation and change the selected
sound to none.

Re: [slim] More problems with Vista

2007-07-07 Thread johnhaines

Things have got more confusing. As per my last post I tried
re-installing ... without uninstalling first. Amazingly the
installation routine ran through to completion when doing this and the
server was shown as running when I checked it in task manager.

I still could not get slimtray to view the webpage nor my sb3's to
access it. I have configured my firewall and router with all the
settings I used under xp to allow access.

I then rebooted and the server was stuck at 'starting' again. After
some hunting around I decided to switch off 'services and drivers'
real-time protection in Windows Defender.

With that setting changed I can start and stop the server happily ... I
just cannot access it. This is getting really frustrating now.

I will try starting slim.exe within a cmd window as you have suggested.
I may also try disconnecting my router from the phone line and then
switching off the firewall to see if that changes things.

Re: [slim] Squeezebox fades

That sounds like marginal reception to me as well.

Try changing the channel on the router: most routers come defaulted to
channel 6, which means yours is going to get interference from your
neighbors if everyone left theirs at 6. Try channel 1 or 11, which
share no frequency space with 6.

(This is a setting on your router, and changing the router should not
require clients being told: they will sniff out the new channel all by
themselves.)

[slim] Squeezebox turning itself off after few seconds

Hello-

Player has been working flawlessly until this morning when I noticed
the display was blank. Power back on to a dim looking display and start
up a song. Song starts playing but with no sound (volumes ok) and player
goes blank after 15 seconds.

The remote was also difficult in responding. Held down the power button
to rest, rebooted PC, did updates to slimserver and still have the same
issue.

Anyone have an idea what could be wrong?

[slim] Hardware or software destroyed?

Dear all,

I bought a Squeezebox 3 some days ago. I don't use Slimserver, but
Squeezenetwork only. Today I took the SB3 from one room to another and
tried to switch on the gadget. I saw the Logitech-logo and after that
some suspicious signs followed. I did it again, but the same was
happened. Pressing remote buttons was without success. I updated the
firmware but no changes. When I press the remote left-button for some
seconds during the start-up routine (Ligitech-logo after connection to
power) I reach the installation menue (IP-address etc.) and can start
the SB3 which works well after that.

But: If I disconnect power supply and restart I have the same stupid
signs on my display, not the normal messages (obtaining IP-address,
connecting to Squeezenetwork etc.) as I am used to. Can you help me?
What did I wrong? I am desperate!

Thank you in advance and best regards,

Stephan

Re: [slim] Squeezebox fades

2007-07-07 Thread CatBus

Install NetStumbler to see what channels your neighbors are using.
Usually 1 or 11 is safe. Sometimes 6 is safe. Sometimes they're all
taken, and then you'll have to go with the weakest interfering signal,
antenna modifications, asking your neighbors to change their settings,
etc. But until you know what's out there, you'll never have any idea.

Also watch out for cordless phones that use the 2.4GHz frequency (new
ones are 5.8GHz, really old ones are 900MHz). Experiment with
different placements for your wireless router (higher is usually
better--on top of a bookshelf perhaps). What sort of router is it? (B
or G?) How many other wireless devices do you have in your house? Etc,
etc. All of these factors can lead to bad connections.

If artistsort is unset, it defaults to artist.

So if you have:
Clapton: ARTIST=Eric Clapton ARTISTSORT=Claption, Eric
and
Mangione: ARTIST=Chuck Mangione

Then, yes, you will see that behavior.

Solution is to decide if you want to use artistsort or not... which
would mean updating tags. I believe some of the tag programs will
guess on artistsort, but, that would do interesting things with Floyd,
Pink and similar.

I've gone ahead and added all of the RadioIO free 128k mp3 streams to
Slim Picks under the By Webcaster menu.

Thanks for your help, Andy. I just checked the radioio Country link
and it's not working. Lots of static trying to connect.

Any idea when Radioio will be back online for us commercial-free
streamers? I really hate the commercials. Do you know, by chance, why
they didn't inform anyone about the changes they are making? It's a
nightmare to figure out what's going on and how to reconnect. Thanks
again for all your help.

Jacob

Re: [slim] Help - Artists disappearing from Artist list but their albums are still present!?

If artistsort is unset, it defaults to artist.

 So if you have:
 Clapton: ARTIST=Eric Clapton ARTISTSORT=Claption, Eric
 and
 Mangione: ARTIST=Chuck Mangione

Then, yes, you will see that behavior.

Solution is to decide if you want to use artistsort or not... which
would mean updating tags. I believe some of the tag programs will
guess on artistsort, but, that would do interesting things with Floyd,
 Pink and similar.

All of my tags have ARTIST and ARTISTSORT set correctly (I use
MusicBrainz tagger). Both artists in the above example have the ARTIST
and ARTISTSORT tags set properly. What else might cause that behavior?

Re: [slim] RadioIO

2007-07-07 Thread bnewts

I emailed RadioIO support, indicating my concerns over the stability of
the service, and received this response from Greg Walters. He agreed it
would be ok to post his response on this site. I'm looking forward to
seeing RadioIO back and even better than before...
~Bob

Hello Bob

First, in response to your concerns, thank you for listening. If you
weren't listening you wouldn't have noticed the disruption in our
service. We are making major changes that will have a profound impact
on the listening experience at radioIO. If my email doesn't address
your issue and you think it's anything beyond the bumps in a
construction zone please detail any and all of your concerns to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] .

We are changing not only servers but the software that we use to get
the stream from our programmers mind to your ears. But wait, there's
more! Take a look at our new web site too, www.radioio.com. The
dramatic changes there reflect the dramatic changes behind the scenes.
All of these changes will contribute to a better listening and
interactive experience with radioIO.

Please bear with us during our period of adjustment or as they say in
the building trade, pardon our dust during remodeling. Your input
during this time is very important to us and your support is welcome
and crucial as we move forward into the future of Internet radio.

During our move to a new website we discovered a problem with one of
the modules of the new website. This module was key to the whole site(
LOGIN module). We have this fixed and are looking at launching our new
website this weekend.

We thank you for your patience in this and hope that you enjoy our new
look.

Sincerely,

A Wholly Owned Subsidiary of ioWorldMedia,Inc
