[slim] Feature Request - Playlist Path Translation
Would like to see the ability for Slimserver/Squeezecenter to do an automatic "find and replace" on imported playlists. I generate playlists on one computer then upload them to a shared drive. On first computer path may be Z:\Artist\Album\... but on the SS computer the path would be F:\Music\Artist\Album\ Why can't SS have the option of being told "every time you see [Z:\] replace it with [F:\Music\]"??? Xbox Media Center includes this exact functionality and it works great. -- jsprag jsprag's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14437 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41099 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] OT: Logitech Harmony 525 or 555 as remote control
Hi, Off topic but this forum has been always a good place to discuss Logitech Harmony universal remotes. I want to choose between the 525 and 555 remotes and found that the only real difference between these two is that the 555 has two hard buttons for 'Sound' and 'Picture' The 525 is now around Euro 49 in NL, the 555 is in most shops much more expensive (but not on the Internet) Am I missing something: - Are these two buttons the only real difference? (On the Logitech site the 525 picture is missing the colored tv-text buttons but the one in the shop has them -Netherlands-). - Can I map these two buttons to the softkeys right & left of the screen? This sounds like a great project! What about a jog-dial style knob that would be tied to the volume up and volume down contacts on the PCB? And I'd use a pot for the amp volume, sticking out the back of the enclosure. You could use a subset of the remote control buttons -- probably the top 11 buttons (sleep & power to the 4-way d-pad) from a current Transporter-style remote control. Hmm, maybe the 0-9 buttons would be good for Favorites presets (and SaverSwitcher, of course!) Instead of gutting an offcial Slim/Logitech remote, consider using a relatively cheap universal remote. You could teach it codes for the Slim buttons, and you should also be able to teach it other (non-Squeezebox) IR codes that you could map to specific functions with SlimServer/SqueezeCenter. E.G. map some specific non-SB IR code to the snooze function in your alarm plugin of choice and wire that to a nice, big physical snooze button. For a real hacker flourish, use a JP1 remote control and leave the JP1 jumper block accessible on the back of the unit for reprogramming the buttons. I'm not sure where you'd place the buttons. My first thought is on top of the enclosure, like an old clock-radio, but then you want to see the VFD when you're reaching out to press the buttons. Are you handy enough to mount the buttons on the front? Do you remember the old clock radios that had a nearly horizontal panel for buttons below and in front of the displays? Mount the IR emitter and IR receiver such that the unit can respond to IR codes from an actual remote control. I second the suggestion about monophonic sound. My bedroom and kitchen units are mono, mainly for placement/WAF reasons. I'd rather have one good speaker enclosure than two poor, tinny enclosures -- or stereo sound in a location where I can't, or simply won't, listen from a good location between the speakers. -Peter, looking forward to progress reports (& pictures!) -- peterw http://www.tux.org/~peterw/ free plugins: http://www.tux.org/~peterw/#slim AllQuiet BlankSaver BottleRocket FuzzyTime SaverSwitcher SleepFade StatusFirst VolumeLock peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=40983 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Wi-Fi Internet Clock Radio?
Well, to these ears the Roberts WM-201 sounds pretty good. It has two decent-sized full range drivers in a solid, bass-ported cabinet. I would say that it's at least the equal of a Tivoli Model One. The Reciva-based internet radio functionality is in many respects superior to what Squeezebox offers and the alarm works very well. There are 4 independent alarm programs. The display is a backlit LCD measuring about 3x1 inches. This shows 3 lines of scrolling text when the radio's on, or a giant-sized digital readout of the time when in standby. Brightness levels are fully adjustable. As a media player it has limitations when compared to a Squeezebox, though I've found it to be perfectly serviceable as a bedside device in this role (EyeConnect is my upnp media server of choice). To be honest, I use the Roberts far more that my Squeezeboxes simply because it's somehow more. convenient, I guess. It's also sold in the US as the Sangean WFR-20. -- sixofone sixofone's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11979 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=40983 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Losing Connection Regularly
I just destroyed my remote in frustration, my SB experience has gotten so bad (a $30 act of stupidity, with shipping, if you're wondering, but I do feel slightly better). After reviewing all options in this thread, I reconfigured my wireless router -- moved it and hi-gain antenna closer to SB, switched channels, added WEP key -- and for reasons unrelated to SB, I also changed my OS from OS X to XP Home. With rescsanning etc, this was a several-hour proejct, but it paid off for an entire week! I was in HEAVEN! Strong connection, no interference, continual connection! Also, several Slim Server updates I really dug! Nice job everyone! Then today, I powered up my computer, scanned for new music in Slim Server, and voila, when I went to SB, it was dark. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING again. I had to set up networking from scratch -- again! -- and after several unsuccessful tries -- re-inputting my WEP key, setting IP manually and automatically, re-inputting everything -- my remote found itself in pieces, along with my lunch, on the floor. My signal is more than 70%; laptops connect great. Once I re-inputted network data, SB connected to network immediately and stayed connected. But once on the network, it simply doesn't recognize Slim Server, and in return, Slim Server doesn't see SB. Host machine is running fine. Slim Server is powered up. My machine is on third floor, hard wired to router, which is on second floor. SB connects from first floor wirelessly. Hard wiring SB is not an option, unless I want to move my stereo into the diaper changing room. Please, Santa, send me a miracle cure so I can have music for Christmas! Thanks in advance for any other options. -- mjwhite999 mjwhite999's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13988 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=40503 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Browser UI can't see one folder.
Had fun at the open house yesterday, Jive looks cool, and I've just started checking out SqueezeCenter7. I got a refurb white w. Slimdevices logo! I forgot to ask those guys this question: I've seen this problem across various versions of the server software. I thought it might be resolved in SC7, but no, and I was having a hard time searching for this, so here goes: (System details in my sig below) Sometimes a folder shows up as a song, which of course doesn't play. The folder contents are not shown. Most recently I'm having trouble with this with a folder "New Tagged". This is the folder that I usually want to access from Browsing the music folder, for something I've just added to the collection, but has not yet been rescanned. The contents of this folder don't show up in the browser UI, all other folders, some on the same disc, behave as expected. SS6 and SC7 both see and correctly catalog the contents of the folder on scanning, I just can't browse to it. I checked the permissions on the folder, everything looks OK, I created a new folder (of the same name) and moved the contents to the new folder and deleted the old folder, created a new symlink for the music folder, but the problem persists. This is pure guess. I had same experience recently. The source of the problem was that I clicked on SqueezeNetwork on the Home page under Internet Radio just to see what it was. Re: [slim] How do you print a list all music?
Hi, I had the same problem and wanted to have a nice list to put near my squeezebox. I ended up in writing a script for it as I couldn't find something usefull. I attached some screenshots of the GUI and the output. It actually generates three output files; 1 HTML with the complete catalog including covers and tracklistings and a MHT file and 1 HTML with only artist, album and year (just for quick reference). Some things to know about it: - An .CSV export file from Tag&Rename is expected as input (see script help for more info) - The script can't cope yet with semi-colons in mp3 tags because this is also the seperator used by Tag&Rename (working on that one) - The script searches for cover.jpg files in the MP3 directory where the albums reside and display the album cover if found. This file is also used by SlimServer but if you have named them otherwise please let me know, i can incorporate it in the script. Should be a minor change. If this all is no problem and you're interested let me know. Scripts can't be uploaded so i can mail it to you. The script is a VB wrapped in a .HTA with some accomodating files. Re: [slim] Mac Mini - going to sleep
Well I changed my modem/router to a Netgear model, and it all now works perfectly - no more shutting down. Only thing I couldn't do was get the SB3 to connect to the network when using WAP security - I had to go back to 128bit WEP - from searching the web this seems to be a problem with Netgear routers and the SB3. -- unclepuncle unclepuncle's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12511 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=40226 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
