[slim] Another duet setup problem...
The duet is a great combination, but setup really seems to be tricky to unreliable at this point. Here is what I am dealing with: > Controller: Connects to WLAN Gets IP from DHCP Replies to Pings Connects to Squeezebox 2 in the network Displays the presence of my new Receiver upon setup BUT: Does not connect to Receiver > Receiver: Gets IP from DHCP Replies to Pings But: Does not react to Controller, LED turns blue after some time of red blinking The latter happens with or without an additional ethernet connection. Controller and receiver simply won't connect even though the networkl connection seems to be OK. I have no idea anymore what to do. Any hints? Happy Easter to anyone out here! Re: [slim] Duet Controller drops packets
I borrowed a different wifi access point, a D-Link DWL-G730AP, and results aren't much better. The receiver connects fine (wirelessly), but the controller appears to be sending out DHCP discover requests repeatedly, ignoring the responses from the AP's server, and eventually the controller self-assigns a 169.x.x.x address. It occasionally acquires a real IP address, but the controller doesn't respond to pings or ssh connection requests, and it has lots of trouble seeing the SB receiver. [slim] Duet Controller drops packets
This is a continuing discussion of the problems I described in my reply to http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45031. I have a WRT-54G running Tomato 1.17. My SB Receiver is connected via wired Ethernet to the router, as is the Linux server running SqueezeCenter. All of this works great -- SC web interface is snappy, SBR responds quickly, etc. The Controller, however, is in bad shape, losing both wireless connectivity and its DHCP-assigned address all the time. For the short times when it is connecting, I note the following: - Pinging the controller from the wired Linux server is 100% successful, but the responses are slow and spiky (rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 39.646/173.173/327.011/94.522 ms). - Pinging the wired server from the controller (invoked through ssh) drops between 40% and 80% of packets. The successful pings tend to follow a pattern: slow response, fast response, slow, fast, slow, fast -- e.g., 800msec, 7msec, 850msec, 10msec. I think the difference in packet loss between S->C and C->S is a red herring; I don't know enough about how the ping tool works, but I'd guess it's a difference in the two different implementations of ping; perhaps the server's version is more tenacious, so it succeeds more often than the controller's version. I've tried with a different router of the same model, and just to be sure I flashed OpenWRT and a Sveasoft derivative. I cranked down all the wifi settings to their slowest settings (1-2Mbps, etc.) and saw no difference. Is it time to cry uncle and call my controller's hardware bad? I live in San Mateo and drive by Slimdevices' HQ every day; I'd be happy to try a known-good sample at my house, or vice-versa. -- fireupthegrill fireupthegrill's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16176 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45168 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

If I understand you correctly, after you wake up the PC with the WOL's Magic Packet... the PC goes into standby mode after you turn off the SB3 and before the pre-defined time out setting in Advanced Power Management. If this is the case, you "might" be suffering from "WOL's 2 Minute Standby Syndrome". Whenver you wake up a Windows PC using WOL and there is no application to prevent standby or no mouse/keyboard activity the PC goes back to sleep in two minutes. Note that this is no the case if the Windows PC is brought out of standby using other methods. [slim] Perl module Load problems on Buffalo Linkstation
Hello All, I have successfully accessed my Buffalo Linkstation Live (HS-DHxxxGL) with v2.10 stock firmware (using ACP_Commander to enable telent)[from NAS-Central]. I did not install the addons that are discussed with the ACP_Commander distribution, I just enabled telnet. The HS-DHxGL has the ARM9 processor. I installed Slimserver based on the Linkstation install instructions attributed to Marc Field from ~2005 found through links in the Slim Wiki. I started with SlimServer_v6.5.4.tar.gz and also squeezecenter-7.0.tgz distributions. When running the slimserver startup, some modules were not found (Config_heavy.pm and autosplit.ix), so I copied them into the @INC path. Now, I get the following error when I start Slimserver: Quote: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/mnt/slimserver# ./slimserver.pl --daemon --prefsfile /mnt/slimserver.prefs --cachedir /mnt/slimdata The following modules failed to load: Time::HiRes DBD::mysql DBI XML::Parser::Expat HTML::Parser Compress::Zlib Digest::SHA1 YAML::Syck To download and compile them, please run: /mnt/slimserver/Bin/build-perl-modules.pl Time::HiRes DBD::mysql DBI XML::Parser::Expat HTML::Parser Compress::Zlib Digest::SHA1 YAML::Syck Exiting.. [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/mnt/slimserver# Endquote I get esentially the same message with Slimserver_v6.5.4 or SqueezeCenter-7.0-17793. It appears that all of these modules (with the .pm extension) are in the slimserver distribution, but apparently they are not where they are expected to be in the file structure. If I run the module builder, it asks for a target folder, which I don't know what it's supposed to be. Can anyone point me in the proper direction to get these modules to load, with information as to where they need to be placed in the files structure starting from the folder containing "slimserver.pl" or from "/"? Or perhaps I'm completely off base and need more information? I'm a complete perl novice, and pretty much a linux lightweight, although not completely out of it at the command line. Re: [slim] Just got a Transporter... on loan.
Hi, haunyack and cliveb. I'm using the RCA's, my pre doesn't have XLR. So I finally took the plunge and I am really satisfied with it :) Now that I've made the decision I am back to normal listening, i.e. not listening for bass resolution, transients, clarity and all that crap :) But seriously I quickly get tired of that, since it (for me) means not listening to the music, but rather to it's components. The good thing though is that the TP still sounds amazingly good to me. But I must admit I made a mistake during my TP auditioning sessions. I didn't consider repositioning my speakers. After having done that (mostly changing toe-in) all the forwardness and hardness I was speaking about earlier has turned in to a wide, but still detailed with good imaging, soundstage with warmer sound. Re: [slim] Possible to pre order the Duet with an Euopean power supply?
For those of us in Europe, the Logitech site does now allow an order to be placed; I did just that this afternoon. However, I think Logitech here are letting the Slimdevices team down. I had registered on both the UK and NL sites, but never received any notification that they were now shipping (at last). If I hadn't kept an eye on these forums I'd be waiting like an idiot! Still, can't wait to receive it. Should be a breakthrough in usability and flexibility at the price-point. If only it could pass through 24/96 to my external DAC...:-) -- adrianr Former Roku owner (SB died!), Duet on order, Musical Fidelity X-DAC v3 & X-PSU adrianr's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16258 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44115 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Thanks for the quick response. Your assumption about my network configuration is correct. I have the Netgear upstream (modem) port connected to one of the 4 Linksys downstream ports. I will see if I can figure out how to turn off DHCP on the Netgear router to use it as a switch. Thanks for your help, and I will post later to let you know if this worked. Re: [slim] Is there a way to get SB3 to "pass through" 24 /96 digital?
I'd also really like to be able to try this, with my SBR (when it is delivered:-)). If there wasn't some benefit to this, it would be strange that the Transporter supports 24/96, and that Linn record and sell music files of this quality! If you wish to play them without losing data (even if many cannot hear the difference), a direct pass-through to an external DAC will be the only option. I guess we'll just have to wait a few years for yet another gadget upgrade! -- adrianr Former Roku owner (SB died!), Duet on order, Musical Fidelity X-DAC v3 & X-PSU adrianr's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16258 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45014 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Help: Wired Squeezebox Reciever & SqueezeCenter
In order to setup the receiver as ethernet connected you need to plug in a working ethernet cable before the setup. If the SBR doesn't see the ethernet network it doesn't offer the option to connect that way. You may also need to factory default the SBR but I don't think so. On the connectivity I don't know the netgear router but I am going to assume it is an ethernet router rather than an ADSL router and that you have the upstream port connected to one of the linksys downstream ports. If that is the case then you have created two network segments probably on different IP networks. The server and the SB find themselves using a broadcast that is only transmitted within the same IP network. I suspect that if you ping the SB from the SC it may fail depending upon the capabilities of the linksys. One way in which it might be resolved is to turn off DHCP on the netgear router if you are using it. The make sure that the link to the Linksys is plugged into one of the downstream ports of the netgear. Essentially turning it into a switch rather than a router. -- Zaragon Zaragon's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14577 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45154 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

The question remains whether the backup software can detect changes to files where only some tag data has been modified. If you don't maintain file mod times when you change tags then it's not something you need to worry about. Thanks. I looked at the other threads but found no help. Also running Squeeze Center 7 as an application did not help. To summarize the situation, Here's what works: 1. PC will automatically Standby if SB3 is Off (with Clock screensaver), after you use PC keyboard. 2. PC does not go to Standby while SB3 is playing music. 3. PC can be manually put to Standby if SB3 is Off. 4. PC in Standby can be sucessfully woken by pressing SB3 Power button. (PC is configured to only awaken w. [slim] Help: Wired Squeezebox Reciever & SqueezeCenter
We just got a Squeezebox duet package our first SlimDevices product and are really enjoying using it with SqueezeNetwork and Rhapsody. We have run into a couple of issues related I presume to our LAN setup that I am hoping someone on this forum can help us with. 1) Setting up the receiver as wired / not WiFi I had wanted to connect the receiver with a wired ethernet connection, but during the controller setup the receiver automatically connected to my wireless network and I can not seem to force it to use a wired connection. Can anyone direct me how to "fix" this? 2) Controller can't find my home PC / squeezecenter While SqueezeNetwork has been working well, I have not been able to get SqueezeCenter to successfully connect to the squeezebox receiver, nor can I get the controller to find my home PC running squeezecenter. SqueezeCenter does show the receiver in its dropdown list, but when I select it and then select yes in response to "This player is currently connected to squeezenetwork. Do you want it to switch back to SqueezeCenter?" it drops the squeezenetwork connection but does not connect to squeezecenter. The squeezebox receiver does not show up in the squeezecenter settings menus at all. Similarly, the controller only shows squeezenetwork as a music source (my home PC running squeezecenter does not show up). Can anyone help me troubleshoot this issue? Pertinent information: 1) I have disabled the PC's firewall to eliminate that as a possible cause 2) My LAN setup: Comcast cable modem connected to a Linksys WRT54G ver.6 (my wireless connection for both the reciever and controller) which is in turn has a wired connection to a Netgear RP614 4 port router. My PC is has a wired connection to the Netgear router. I would also like to create a wired connection between the Netgear router and my squeezebox receiver. Any help would be much appreciated. I was having the same problem with SC7 and album artwork, and I did what was suggested. I used iTunes "download album artwork". Then, for EVERY album (use album view for ease) I started one song (option to show album artwork on). The album art shows up in a pane in the lower left (Windows XP). I right click on the pane and select copy. I then select all songs in the album and select "get info" There is a pane in the get info "info" section that I right click and select paste. Then select OK, and it copies the artwork to each tag in the album, and it shows up in SC7. This also works for artwork found on Amazon or elsewhere on the Internet. I had to search high and low for some album covers with Google. Others, I resorted to shooting myself, and photoshopping down to 500x500 pixels and dragging into the artwork pane in get info. When living in an open loft condo, a wireless G router worked fine for me. After moving to a multi-story house, I found the need to switch to a pre-N router. The SB series does not support the N protocol, but those routers have significantly greater range in general. For one specific room, which houses the media server, I also opted to put in Powerline networking. My personal experience has been quite poor with Netgear routers as well, with frequent dropped signals for a number of devices. I am presently using a Linksys WRT300N and have no dropout problems across multiple floors and back yard. The Netgear router you refer to, although MIMO, does not have external antennas. Re: [slim] Why is Logitec trying to rip me off?
Slim devices isn't trying to cheat you. Logitech is a multinational corporation and prices are set by them on a regional basis. I don't understand why European customers have to pay 50% more. This has come up before (search the forum) and while I agree that that seems like an excessive premium, neither do I understand the vagaries of international corporate pricing. If you really want a serious answer, you should contact the Logitech corporation. They're the ones who can actually answer you if they choose to explain, not those of us in a community support forum. I don't use itunes, so other than the fact that SqueezeCenter supports it, I cannot answer that question. The Duet Receiver may be wired or wireless. The Controller is wifi only, no IR, no bluetooth. The Receiver can act as a wifi bridge for the Controller if you do not otherwise have wifi set up. Given this range is wide, the exact extent of which will depend on individual circumstances. [slim] Show current track at top of list in default skin?
The default skin (in SC7) appears to be set up so that the current track "prefers" to be shown at the bottom of the playlist. Is it possible for me to change this so that it's at the top instead? I'd prefer to see what's coming next, rather than what's just been; and even when I scroll to achieve this, when the track changes, the display moves it to the bottom again (if it can). [slim] A couple of questions
I'm doing a little bit of research on this product and I would like some questions answered before I buy. 1. I use iTunes for my library and I've spent a lot of time organizing specific playlists. Can the duet access and play my iTunes playlists or can it just access the music. 2. Does the duet have to be wireless? I have a computer with a wired router and ethernet running to my stereo. Would I still be able to use the duet? 3. Is the remote IR, Bluetooth, etc.? How far is the remote's range? Can I use it if I am in the other room or outside? [slim] Podcast-like feed with streaming audio doesn't work with new software
Hi I have constructed a RSS2 news feed with a weekly hit list. Each hit list is available as a broadcast using streaming audio, and I have "cheated" using the enclosure-tag to point at this streaming audio broadcast from each item in the RSS feed. So syntacticly this looks completely like a RSS podcast (but the audio is not downloadable, only streamable). I'm pretty sure I saw this work as a podcast on both SlimServer and the old version of SqueezeNetwork, but it doesn't work anymore with the new version of SqueezeNetwork and with SqueezeCenter. Any idea to get this to work with SqueezeCenter and the new SqueezeNetwork? [slim] Why is Logitec trying to rip me off?
Hi I've been a Slimdives customer for quite a while. I even bought 2 of the original SlimMP3 Players when they first came out (they still work). Today I own 4 players of different generations. Today, when I wanted to order the new Squeezebox Duet in shop on www.slimdevices.com (as I did in the past), I realized that I'm not accepted a a customer anymore. Instead I'm refered to the Logitec shop. In the Logitec shop, the prices are much higher than in the US shop. The Squeezebox Duet lists for 399.99US$ on Slimdevices and for 599CHF in the Logitec shop. Since the value of 1US$ and 1CHF are currently almost equal, it is very easy to compare the prices and so I realized the Logitec/Slimdevices expects me to pay 50% more because I'm living in Switzerland. I can uderstand that products are sometime a bit more expensive in Europe (manual in other language, different voltage), but a dfference of 50% is just a pure rip off. To me this really feels like Logitec/Slimdevices are seriously trying to cheat me. Re: [slim] Still wondering...
I use Linux, not Apple, but when I upgraded to SC7, I installed SC7, uninstalled it, reinstalled SS6.5 and repeated that process probably 6 or 7 times in trying to run down a problem. (Turned out to be that SC7 was sensitive to a bad soft-link the the music directory that wasn't bothering SS6.5. SC7 is running fine now.) However, my point is: I had no problem with installing/uninstalling multiple times. (Though I was careful to keep a copy of my configuration files stored elsewhere.) It never took more than a few minutes to switch back to the old program. I'd imagine that OSX can't be any more complicated in this regard. (Though obviously since I don't use it, that isn't a guarantee.) -- mlsstl mlsstl's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9598 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45143 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Still wondering...
Hi guys, I was almost decided to install SC7 but I have questions related to the integration and properly functioning of SC with iTunes on MAC OS X. I have read some topics in the Beginners section about SC7 not finding the Apple Lossless files and other issues. Was that just one isolated case or is it a problem at the moment with SC7? I have lots of files in that format and I have MAC only and so far the older version of SlimServer works very good with all my music files and plugins. -- ezsurfing ezsurfing's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12421 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45143 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Control SlimServer _from_ iTunes
Hi there, You've done a good job. The new version works as expected. If you wanna play more with this, it should be possible to do the following w/o too much hassle: Use the AppleScript kit to build a small user-interface. If I could (but I suck at any kind of programming), I'd do this myself. What I would like is the following: A floating window containing two buttoms: - A play buttom - A "+" buttom The floating window should preferrably open whenever I launch iTunes (I can actually make this myself...that's a simple piece of scripting), and it should remember it's position from time to time (think this is standard behaviour). Then - pressing "Play" in this window would send selection to play immediately. - Pressing + would add to the playlist. To see what I mean try look up http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19324 . This little piece of freeware launches iTunes when it is launched on it's own, and provides a floating window which integrates nicely with iTunes. Well, this was just an idea - the current implementation works out nicely! Thanks Sune P.S. A bonus feature would be a "Play+" buttom. When clicked, it would send the currently selected track + the following X tracks BELOW the currently selected track, in case only one track is selected (basically allowing me to search for something in iTunes, then click on the first hit and activate the "Play+" buttom for sending X tracks to the player, without having to make a selection first...). You could either make X a number that we can adjust ourselves OR just fix it to a value of, say, 30 tracks or less (if there is less than 30 tracks, ofcourse). -- Sune Sune's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8823 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=8967 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] SC 7.0 Issues & Questions
Hi there, Just noticed that my ratings are no longer transferred from SC 7 to my iTunes library. The issue seems to have arised after I upgraded to Beta 8 (which otherwise fixed a problem of mine - the inability for ratings to show up "On screen", if ratings were done with the SB Remote). I have, however, tried to disable TrackStat (and LastFM for that matter). Still no communication between iTunes Update and iTunes. Well, iTunes still launches if it's not running, as always, but the rating is not transferred. I have, after noticing this problem, upgraded to v. 2.4.4 of iTunes Update. Alas, it doesn't help. Any suggestions?
