Why use the name squeezebox? What is being squeezed here? My limited

streams digital music.

Also probably because the SqueezeBox (actually the server) has so much
music squeezed into such small hardware (or discs). Fortunately, not
all squeezed (compressed) music -sounds- like coming from a Squeeze

I like the product very much: the name I dislike.

Squeezebox: a downmarket musical instrument.

Squeezebox is to accordion as tin-whistle is to flute; and even an
accordion cannot be considered a serious musical instrument.

Not a happy set of associations for classical music lovers, and a word
with no echoes in current popular music.

There is a Setting under Player/Audio that allows you to configure a
given player so that it's outputs will be disabled when the device is
turned off. This is intended to allow connection of a Squeezebox to
devices that automatically detect the presence of a digital input.
(such as my external DAC) At some point in a post 7.0 release this
feature stopped working, and according to a thread from last summer it
was acknowledged as a bug. (bug #1397)

And according to the post above, a fix was targeted for 7.3.

I am now running version 7.3.2 of Squeezecenter, and the issue does not
seem to be resolved. I have this feature turned on for a player hooked
up to an external DAC, and when the player is powered down the DAC
still detects a signal from the player's digital output. (in this case,
 the optical output)

Unfortunately, Bugzilla won't allow me to access the bug report
referenced above, giving me an error message of You are not authorized
to access bug #1397. (even when logged in with an active account) So I
can't check to see what the official status is.

Does anybody know the status on this?

Question for SD... WHY is this bug hidden? - what's so special about
it?

IMO, although Labarum has a point about consistency, it's also the case
that too many choices can be a bad thing. A lot of users, especially new
users, don't know if the problem they are experiencing is SqueezeCenter

Question: Does Album Catalogue Creator (RC5+) create a trustworthy

- Yes but with minor issues

 Frank,

 Some more info on 3716.

I am running my slimserver on a linux box on the 255.255.255.0 and I
have been getting the 3716 error pretty well regardless of whether I
include the server box in my trusted sites or not. The only way I have
got the system to run is allow Access to data sources across domains
for the internet zone (no effect in the other zones). In this case, I
don't need to add the slimserver IP to the trusted sites list.

I presume this is because my windows box does not recognise my
slimserver box as being in the same domain (and I'm too lazy to figure
out what I need to change - I can live with doing this change as a one
 off to run acc).

Anyway, I hope this is helpful. Now I'm getting the report without
cover art, so on to trouble shooting that!

 Cheers

 Larry

Thx for the tip. I added it as one of the solutions on the ACC download
page. No cover art is often related to a wrong remote path.

Frank

I haven't seen a commercial program yet that generates a catalog from a

details about the problem you're having and I should be able to help

[slim] SB3 analogue output filled with noise

2009-03-16 Thread Kuben72

I am using an SB3 as alarm clock in our bedroom. I have a pair of old pc
loudspeakers that is connected to the analogue output. This a has worked
without any problems until this morning.
This morning we were waken with a terrible noise that came out of the
speakers.
So tonight I tried to connect another pair of speakers with the same
result. I tried my other SB3 with the speakers and they worked fine. If
I use the digital output from the bedroom-SB3 everything is working.
So as far as I can tell the analogue output is not working correctly.
Is there anything to do to make it work again?

I've never had to recover my password, so I've never seen it before.

But wow! That's as nasty as any I've seen. VBulletin (the forums

images. Apparently someone set it to the most difficult possibly in the
hopes that it would control spam or increase security or something. I
question why it's even necessary to have it on the password reset
form.

Good summation. The two aren't mutually exclusive, of course. If a

nightly (or any other interval) backups, and an external backup.
Starts to add up to a lot of drives though...

space to do it (like rsync does).

That's how I'll be running SC on my new system...

Interesting thought. Not that familiar with Solaris or ZFS but might
be worth looking into.

Re: [slim] Internet Radio

I am having the same problem playing WMA streams in softsqueeze. I am
running both squeezecenter and softsqueeze in Windows, but will not
play a lot of internet radio stations. When connected (in softsqueeze)
to my computer, it appears as if it thinks it's playing (switches to
station, begins timer, etc) but no sound comes out. When connected to
squeezenetwork on the other hand, it gives the error originally
defined: Problem: Unable to play file type for: Stream

Anybody have a fix.

Thanks a lot, Matt

Re: [slim] Internet Radio

2009-03-16 Thread bpa

There is a bug in Softsqueeze particularly when runnging 7.3 and
higher.

Until the fix is in new builds - a workaround is to change some setting
in SqueezeCenter

1. Install lame.exe if you have not got it installed and then reboot
SC
2. Under WebUI Settings/Advanced/FileTypes - disable Windows
Media-Flac and Windows Media-WAV. Windows Media-MP3 should be
enabled (probably using wmadec/lame).
3. Try a WMA station again using Softsqueeze.

To be honest ... its all a work in progress right now. The fact is that
we have a serious spam issue and we're not sure what the best fix is
going to be. Unfortunately right now that means that we're trying
different things out to see how they behave.

Ultimately, it may simply be a little bit more difficult to post, or
register, or both ... or it might not be, if we find another silver
bullet.

One thing to keep in mind is that we're working within the confines of
VBB. Patches welcome. :)

Thanks.
Actually, depending on the spam source, things like @MeSue's idea of not
checking for X number of posts, or for Moderators, etc. may not work
either. If the bad guys can spoof my ID, then the system would see that
I've got lots of posts, and not do the spam test.

I think this is actually a NP-hard problem, after all, the Turing test
has never been solved, no matter what the authors of captcha claim.

FYI... I've just implemented (I think) a promotion system. Existing

automatically get promoted to Registered Users. Only Newly

choose) for most of their actions (posts, etc). Once your a registered

Thoughts?
