Re: [slim] Change for change's sake is bad
In general the new controller interface looks nice but at first impression overwhelming. - Which line is selected can not easily be seen while not moving the scroll wheel. - The font used for the played and remaining time on the controller well, I wonder how that got to the release stage (readability is very low) - It is a lot faster that before - I too second that 'My Apps' are not apps and hence unintuitive - Why is the center button functionality while viewing the now playing list replaced by the + button on the controller? Ok, music library is now called 'My music' on all interfaces who decided to not do that on the SB3? Here it is still called Music library. But, in general the new GUI is an improvement making it look a bit like apples as have been mentioned before on this thread but the user experience is a lot better. Is this like Facebook ads, if the site thinks you're female, is there a male avatar making a sales pitch? This is really cheesy. The animation looks daft, but of more concern is that who or whatever hosts Logitech's site doesn't seem up to the task. Over here in the UK, the performance of the site is now so poor that I give up most evenings because it takes so long to load a page. I had wondered whether it was the internet backbone UK / US links that were coincidently out of capacity, but other clearly US hosted sites (Audiogon for example) loads just fine. [slim] 7.4: Custom.map for Digital Inputs
The inability in 7.4 to set digital inputs as presets effectively breaks my home theater setup. So I'm trying to figure out how to set up a custom IR command to select the Toslink input of my Transporter. Adding this: command = modefunction_Plugins::DigitalInput::Plugin->toslink doesn't work (of course I'm replacing "command" with the IR command I'm trying to assign). If I put, say, "power_toggle" on the right hand side of the equals it will toggle the power, so the custom.map is working just fine. Apparently this isn't the right code to select the Toslink input. Re: [slim] SB3 - replacement PSU / remote?
We have broken a couple of the new style remotes - they are very fragile and do not survive much of a drop onto a wooden floor. I too need to buy another one. I found it for £30 at www.ripcaster.co.uk, this seams alot for a pretty cheap remote that is not strong enough to stand up to the normal use / abuse that remotes get. Anyone know where to get one cheaper? I just had my Cyrus two repaired and I mostly don't regret it. It cost 160 pounds and is now working as new. My only regret is that I can now listen to my old vinyl again and the SqueezeBox does not quite live up to the same so I need to investigate better DACs or a transporter. Alas my budget does not extent to either. It went back to cyrus via a local hifi shop and took months to return and even then they failed to fix the phono stage first time. The wav files take 2-3 times the bandwidth of FLAC, and the audio quality is identical. Also, does the rebuffering occur only with your high-res files? [slim] Cyrus Two no worky - fix or upgrade?
Some time back I got a free Cyrus Two and PSX off freecycle and can say I grew to love the sound very much. I have some Mission 773 hooked upto the Cyrus. 10 days ago, the Cyrus stopped working. Spotting a (newer version of) Cyrus Two on ebay, with an hour to run, I jumped and bought it. It arrived today and hooked up to the PSX, power up and I had sound for a few seconds... Not happy. On Googling, I relised I should have removed the two fuses from the Two, but they seem to be OK and removing them has not made any difference. So - do I get either/both of them repaired (Cyrus repair will no doubt cost an arm and a leg) or do I bite the bullet and pony up for a new replacement amp? Roksan Kandy K2 is tempting but the nearest shop is 100 miles away... The replacement C2 was £125 - add in the cost of a repair job and the money would go quite a way to a new amp. What to do?? Re: [slim] Rebuffering is ruining the Squeezebox experience
Go into SqueezeCenter and view the Server Status page. On there it'll show you the wireless signal strength. A cabled solution will be 100Mb or 1000Mb, whereas wireless will be 54 Mb at best. if your signal strnegth is poor then you'll start hitting problems. I've got three SB3 players, all connecting wirelessly. If the signal is below 50% I get buffering, so I've moved them all around slightly and now they all show around 85%-90% and no buffering, not even from FLAC. I have ripped a few of them to my server but squeezebox (classic) won't play them back without rebuffering every few seconds. I rip them to .wav files. The squeezebox is connected wirelessly. I also own a popcorn hour and this plays the dvd-audio hi-res stereo flawlessly. The popcorn hour is connected to the wireless modem/router via network cable (standard cat5). I guess I'm wondering if this is why I can't play the same files on the classic? One being cabled and the other being wireless? Any suggestions would be helpful and appreciated. And I guess that 85% of statistics like that are made up. If you use the SN services *through* SC/SbS then you don't need to upgrade to 7.4. Right now I am listening to internet radio through SC 7.3.3. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=68270 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

If you're looking for a username, then you have to search by username. >From the Search drop-down (top-center), select Advanced Search. Then put the username you're looking for in the "Search by Username" on the right side. I just did that with your username and it found all the threads in which you had posted. Of course, you can combine username search with keyword searches by also entering search terms on the left side of the advanced search screen. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=68453 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Effectiveness of the "Search" function in the Newsgroups
I am puzzled by the negative results I get from use of the "Search" function in these Newsgroups. To test this function, I've done the following :- For instance , in the Beginners NG when I input a User Name by choosing one of the names already listed there , I get a "nothing found" result even although I can see that Username listed . Why do I get this result ? -- thenoo thenoo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17661 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=68453 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I'm sorry you feel that way. I have been listening, but I have not had much time to post recently. I intend to fix the Controller audio playback in 7.4.1, so it works at least as well as 7.3. Well as others say: in 7.3 it was usable if you applied the right workarounds, e.g. the headphone switcher plugin. In 7.4 its mostly useless, unless you use just the right music format, low resource-screensaver etc. In that case the glitches tend to disappear after a mínute or so. -- Muele BR Mogens 2 Controllers, 2 Receivers, 1 Squeezeplay.
