Re: [slim] no sound from internet radio

2009-10-20 Thread ulvi

And, also, the display on SB3 goes
blank while attempting to play a
radio station. I now noticed that this
problem applies to any streaming audio app,
for example rhapsody behaves the same way
(tracks appear to play visually, but no sound,
and blank SB3 screen).

Any ideas?

[slim] no sound from internet radio

2009-10-20 Thread ulvi

With 7.4.1 (10/16 nightly)
I can't get any internet radio station
to work on my SB3. The stations are
listed and connection appears to proceed
but there is no sound even though the stream time
ticker progresses normally (this is for
all radio stations).

You need to register SControl to use the browser.
Go to the settings - the registration dialog will come up.
Click on the blue hyperlink at the top and submit the form that opens
in your browser.
The key to unlock SControl will be sent to you via email.

The reciever auto updates fw , it's tied to the version of
squeezeboxserver you are running, fyi reciever fw is not changed as

I was referring to another issue that results in not showing the list

Doesn't apply to albums, though.

I don't claim to understand the actual internals of the sync mechanism
-- awy can probably explain in more detail. I remember in the past
many times people have had problems if their server clock did not keep
correct time.

As for whether using NTP will help -- I'm unsure. One characteristic
of an NTP-sync'd clock when your server clock is drifting quickly is
that you may see little "jumps" when corrections are made -- it could
very well cause even more bizarre sync behavior but make the server
appear stable.

Interesting, do you mean that it can get out of sync when the PC/Mac's

Does using http://www.pool.ntp.org

As a possible data point I'm running v0.965 win32, with the command
line
-r1 -m:00:00:00:00:10 server3
and have no problems running Pandora.
I run Pandora through my server and am a paid-up Pandora subscriber.
I had been getting a 192CBR data stream, but, possibly coincidentally,
this dropped to 128 when I upgraded to server 7.41 from 7.33. I switched
to -m00:04:20:00:00:06 to see if that was going on, but still 128.
Thanks for doing all this work!
Do you need someone within Pandora-land to test the next version(s)?

I have no idea why it is so unpredictable in your case. When playing
local MP3s, if they are out of sync do they re-sync when you skip to the
next track by pressing >>? When I used to have sync problems (pre-7.3)
that was usually pretty reliable for re-syncing players. In another
thread some others have reported that power cycling the SBs helps with
sync performance. I'd recommend unplugging them from the mains and
leaving them unplugged for a good 10-20 seconds before plugging back in.

Re: [slim] I officially declare my HATE for 7.4...

2009-10-20 Thread qirex

honestly I think the biggest problem is that Logitech sent out an email
announcing it the instant it was available. Having dealt with .0
releases before I assumed they'd done something different as far as
testing and upgraded right away. Fortunately factory resetting my SBC
fixed most of my problems but it took me a while to figure that out.

Basically they should have a) waited a while to see if there were any
game-breakers before sending a marketing email to everybody and b)
informed existing users about the upcoming major changes better. From
the email I was just expecting they'd renamed Squeezenetwork and
shoehorned some "apps" in somewhere for buzzword compliance.

No worries. Restored the Temp folder and just removed the pdk ones. When
I tried to start Squeezebox Server I got the same error I get when
logging in as my Windows user, presumably because it's running the same
routine.

One thing I noticed is that the name of the pdk folder changes. This
time it is saying PANIC: Can't create
C:\DOCUME~1\Greg\LOCALS~1\Temp\pdk-Greg-2056\perl510.dll which is a
different folder than before.

So it does seem to be a writes or permissions issue to create folder in
C:\DOCUME~1\Greg\LOCALS~1\Temp. I just don't know how to change this as
it seems to be being manipulated by system processes.

No dice sadly.

I can't delete or move C:\DOCUME~1\Greg\LOCALS~1 due to some things in

Re: [slim] Worst customer service ever!

2009-10-20 Thread Altec

Yes Hans, I have an update:

I have changed my opinion about Logitech customer service after a
friendly person called me today. What a drastic contrast to my first
experience! I now once again trust this company and their products,
thanks to Peter from Logitech Customer Care in Switzerland, who btw is
also Danish. Thanks to Logitech in California someone finally showed
interest in solving my problem in a professional way. I am sure that my
problem will be fixed very soon and I believe what they say, that I was
the victim of several unfortunate incidents and that this sort of
problems will be a thing of the past.

I am now glad that I didn't gave up and bought something else instead
because the squeezebox family seems to be one of the most innovative
product lines I have tried, with lots of possibilities. Sure that means
that once in a while something goes wrong, but when I think about it I
rather have an advanced product than an expensive outdated boring
product such as some of the other products I looked at before choosing
Squeezebox (of course only if I know that someone from customer service
will try to help me if something fails...). Once again I want to buy the
Squeezebox Radio and Touch. And yes Hans, the Radio is also in the shops
here in Denmark.

I won't reply to this thread anymore unless something crazy happens
(which I doubt). Thanks

[slim] Panic: Can't create perl510.dll

2009-10-20 Thread Jeepie

Hi There,

I've upgraded to Squeezebox server 7.4. It works, but it doesn't work
completely.

Specifically when my computer starts I get the error message:

Panic: Can't create
C:\DOCUME~1\Greg\LOCALS~1\Temp\pdk-Greg-2728\perl510.dll.

This is thrown by the SqueezeTray.exe process and the squeezebox icon
in the system tray doesn't appear. Because of this the squeezebox server
doesn't start automatically.

I checked C:\DOCUME~1\Greg\LOCALS~1\Temp and I notice this is marked as
read-only. Whenever I try to change permissions they appear to change,
but then when I check it again it goes back to read-only. Could this be
an issue?

System info:

[slim] Cen't share on Facebook.

2009-10-20 Thread SteveEast

When I try to share anything on Facebook (local music or Pandora), I
get:

200: Permissions error

I checked the mysqueezebox application permissions on Facebook, all
three permissions are set under each of Publish Recent Activity, Access
Streams and Offline Access.

I can see my wall, news feed, friends, etc.

Is there something else I need to open up?

Steve.

Re: [slim] I officially declare my HATE for 7.4...

2009-10-20 Thread get . amped

Frankly, I'm cautious about *all* software upgrades at this stage in the
game. I've got over 25 years of hands-on, professional IT experience and
I tend to push my own gear way beyond the limit of reasonable duty cycle
and resource utilization. And one reason that it continues to work for
me is that I'm very particular about what software and which version
gets loaded on each platform. I review every patch that's released from
each vendor and do a risk assessment based on the advantages that the
patch provides against the potential havoc that it may cause. For major
releases (OS service packs, etc.) I generally wait several months before
upgrading and even then I'll migrate essential functionality to another
machine before applying it.

With the Squeezebox software I stayed with 6.5 until 7.3.2 provided
sufficient stability to make it the new plateau. I was force to regress
to 6.5 several times before then. And, given that it takes almost an
entire day to do an upgrade followed by a retrograde (9 hours per full
scan), it is not something that I am going to take on lightly.
Fortunately, I am in a position to wait since I really don't use the
resource formerly called SqueezeNetwork. But I truly feel for those
customers who were forced to upgrade either by the requirements of the
device or their reliance on the on-line services.

Maybe by the time 7.5.1 is released it will be worth considering...

One reason could be that not all filesystems have a "create time"
field. I'm pretty sure ext3, commonly found on *nix systems, does not.
That's one of the enhancements of ext4.

It's a fair point - I agree that created date makes more sense in most
contexts - but I guess it was just easier as they have to read the
modified date to do the new/CHANGED rescan...

For me, it's depends on the availability of the CD, the cost of the CD,
and how important the album is for me. For instance, I recently
transferred The Firm albums I have. It is interesting to listen to
these again, but not worth the expense of the CD. And I happened to
have some time on my hands.

The other part of it is that I enjoy the the vinyl transfer process.
Back in the day, I enjoyed making tapes too. Sometimes I think I missed

The main advantage I find to old LP's is their superior mastering. They
played fewer tricks in the old days and the CD's and even the remastered
LP's have suffered since. Play the original Vanda/Young AC/DC albums

[slim] 7.4 on AppleTV

2009-10-20 Thread nieldm

For anyone who is interested, I have upgraded from 7.2 to Squeezebox
Server 7.4 on my (hacked) AppleTV.

I take zero credit for this, everything is here in Scott Gruby's
excellent blog
"http://blog.gruby.com/2007/11/25/installing-slimserver-on-an-appletv/";

The only changes are in the directory structures in step 8, where Scott
copies "Install Files/SlimServer.prefPane/Resources/server" to the
Desktop. This changes to "Install Files/Squeezebox.prefPane/server"

Apart from that everything works fine. The AppleTV really is a very
sound alternative platform and if I was smart enough I would build an
install package for the aTV (hint...).

Any questions please feel free to ask, but as I said, Scott Gruby is
the brains behind this.

[slim] Favourites From Remote Control...??

I have just reorganised my favourites (radio stations) on my squeezebox

playing the old stations that were saved to the particular number on the

Re: [slim] New Music

2009-10-20 Thread Siduhe

New Music is determined by the date/timestamp of the individual files.
Many good tagging programs can be set either to modify the date/time
stamp of the files when you update tags or not.

Re: MusicIP - that depends whether you are only using the MIP
functionality to populate your Squeezecenter library or whether you are
combining a Squeezecenter scan with a MIP scan. It sounds from your
description as if you are doing the latter.

If so, Squeezecenter should only go off the date/timestamp of the files
to populate New Music. If you are amending file tags and those songs
aren't showing up in New Music, check whether your tagging program is
set up not to modify the file properties.

I am trying to determine how new music is determined.

If I add an album what defines if it is new music. Is it the date time
of the Last Modified attribute of the Directory or of the Tracks. Is it

Is it only updated after Music IP has refreshed its database?

Re: [slim] hung up on Connecting in China

2009-10-20 Thread robchel

I'm out of ideas and still unable to get my SB3 past "connecting" on
MySqueezeBox.com here in China. I've tried going back to SqServer 7.3,
factory resets, firmware updates and reversions, just can't get it
going. My SB Boom continues to connect to MSB.com - though once or twice
a week I have to "reset" the connection, meaning I get the same hang up
on "connecting" trying to go directly to the MSB.com network. Then I
need to restart the Boom, connect to squeeze server on a PC and use it
to link to the MSB network before going directly to it via the Boom.
Very strange. If anyone out there experiences something similar, or if
you are in China and all is working just fine, please post word. Thanks.

If anybody is still seeing this and is willing to give me access to his
or her database, please PM me.

Re: [slim] I officially declare my HATE for 7.4...

2009-10-20 Thread AndreE

Today morning I woke up and wanted listening music... just something
calm
And... all my receivers were in this funky greenish light.
I’ve re-set one receiver and controller together, but... stopped doing
for others.
It was a sadness and frustration in my heart.
You know how long it takes to get it restarted and connected
And first what I had: was a announcement about one of the stations,
than this fancy song time counter on the controller and no song coming
out of my speakers, but just a silence.
I had to switch between stations twice before it started playing
music... and it was a time to leave.
This was very frustrating... this greenish eyes silently watching on
you...
