And, also, the display on SB3 goes blank while attempting to play a radio station. I now noticed that this problem applies to any streaming audio app, for example rhapsody behaves the same way (tracks appear to play visually, but no sound, and blank SB3 screen). [slim] no sound from internet radio
With 7.4.1 (10/16 nightly) I can't get any internet radio station to work on my SB3. I don't claim to understand the actual internals of the sync mechanism -- awy can probably explain in more detail. I remember in the past many times people have had problems if their server clock did not keep correct time. As for whether using NTP will help -- I'm unsure. One characteristic of an NTP-sync'd clock when your server clock is drifting quickly is that you may see little "jumps" when corrections are made -- it could very well cause even more bizarre sync behavior but make the server appear stable. Re: [slim] I officially declare my HATE for 7.4...
honestly I think the biggest problem is that Logitech sent out an email announcing it the instant it was available. Having dealt with .0 releases before I assumed they'd done something different as far as testing and upgraded right away. Fortunately factory resetting my SBC fixed most of my problems but it took me a while to figure that out. Basically they should have a) waited a while to see if there were any game-breakers before sending a marketing email to everybody and b) informed existing users about the upcoming major changes better. Re: [slim] Worst customer service ever!
Yes Hans, I have an update: I have changed my opinion about Logitech customer service after a friendly person called me today. What a drastic contrast to my first experience! I now once again trust this company and their products, thanks to Peter from Logitech Customer Care in Switzerland, who btw is also Danish. Thanks to Logitech in California someone finally showed interest in solving my problem in a professional way. I am sure that my problem will be fixed very soon and I believe what they say, that I was the victim of several unfortunate incidents and that this sort of problems will be a thing of the past. I am now glad that I didn't gave up and bought something else instead because the squeezebox family seems to be one of the most innovative product lines I have tried, with lots of possibilities. Sure that means that once in a while something goes wrong, but when I think about it I rather have an advanced product than an expensive outdated boring product such as some of the other products I looked at before choosing Squeezebox (of course only if I know that someone from customer service will try to help me if something fails...). Once again I want to buy the Squeezebox Radio and Touch. And yes Hans, the Radio is also in the shops here in Denmark. I won't reply to this thread anymore unless something crazy happens (which I doubt). Re: [slim] I officially declare my HATE for 7.4...
Frankly, I'm cautious about *all* software upgrades at this stage in the game. I've got over 25 years of hands-on, professional IT experience and I tend to push my own gear way beyond the limit of reasonable duty cycle and resource utilization. And one reason that it continues to work for me is that I'm very particular about what software and which version gets loaded on each platform. I review every patch that's released from each vendor and do a risk assessment based on the advantages that the patch provides against the potential havoc that it may cause. For major releases (OS service packs, etc.) I generally wait several months before upgrading and even then I'll migrate essential functionality to another machine before applying it. With the Squeezebox software I stayed with 6.5 until 7.3.2 provided sufficient stability to make it the new plateau. I was force to regress to 6.5 several times before then. And, given that it takes almost an entire day to do an upgrade followed by a retrograde (9 hours per full scan), it is not something that I am going to take on lightly. Fortunately, I am in a position to wait since I really don't use the resource formerly called SqueezeNetwork. But I truly feel for those customers who were forced to upgrade either by the requirements of the device or their reliance on the on-line services. The main advantage I find to old LP's is their superior mastering. They played fewer tricks in the old days and the CD's and even the remastered LP's have suffered since. Play the original Vanda/Young AC/DC albums versus CD vs "Digital Remastered" Lp's for an example of what I am talking about. -- riffer riffer's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13459 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69989 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] 7.4 on AppleTV
For anyone who is interested, I have upgraded from 7.2 to Squeezebox Server 7.4 on my (hacked) AppleTV. I take zero credit for this, everything is here in Scott Gruby's excellent blog "http://blog.gruby.com/2007/11/25/installing-slimserver-on-an-appletv/"; The only changes are in the directory structures in step 8, where Scott copies "Install Files/SlimServer.prefPane/Resources/server" to the Desktop. This changes to "Install Files/Squeezebox.prefPane/server" Apart from that everything works fine. The AppleTV really is a very sound alternative platform and if I was smart enough I would build an install package for the aTV (hint...). Any questions please feel free to ask, but as I said, Scott Gruby is the brains behind this. -- nieldm nieldm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12305 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=70056 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I have just reorganised my favourites (radio stations) on my squeezebox 3 by deleting some and added some new stations. When I go into favourites from the menu on the SB3 they are all shown and I can select and play them fine. Re: [slim] New Music
New Music is determined by the date/timestamp of the individual files. Many good tagging programs can be set either to modify the date/time stamp of the files when you update tags or not. Re: MusicIP - that depends whether you are only using the MIP functionality to populate your Squeezecenter library or whether you are combining a Squeezecenter scan with a MIP scan. It sounds from your description as if you are doing the latter. If so, Squeezecenter should only go off the date/timestamp of the files to populate New Music. If you are amending file tags and those songs aren't showing up in New Music, check whether your tagging program is set up not to modify the file properties. -- Siduhe Who am I on 'LAST.FM' (http://www.last.fm/user/siduhe)? I am trying to determine how new music is determined. I am running 7.3.3 I have Music IP configured as well and SqueezeServer does a directory scan and then a Music IP scan. Re: [slim] hung up on Connecting in China
I'm out of ideas and still unable to get my SB3 past "connecting" on MySqueezeBox.com here in China. I've tried going back to SqServer 7.3, factory resets, firmware updates and reversions, just can't get it going. My SB Boom continues to connect to MSB.com - though once or twice a week I have to "reset" the connection, meaning I get the same hang up on "connecting" trying to go directly to the MSB.com network. Then I need to restart the Boom, connect to squeeze server on a PC and use it to link to the MSB network before going directly to it via the Boom. Very strange. If anyone out there experiences something similar, or if you are in China and all is working just fine, please post word.
