Low bandwidth is not a great argument for ripping to lossy codecs,
since bitrate limiting is available, and can even be restricted to the
particular player(s) where bandwidth is a problem. Then after getting
the network straightened out just turn off bitrate limiting, without the
waste of re-ripping.

Re: [slim] Problem with playlists (itunes) not updating in SBS

2010-01-16 Thread cornflakeguy

I've had this problem for months now.

SBS was able to find the itunes playlists once upon a time, but then if
I made changes to that playlist, SBS would never see the changes, it was
frozen in time.

Now as of today I have deleted, rescanned, remade, re-etc., eveything
in itunes and SBS and SBS can't find playlists anymore, much less an
outdated one.

I'd blame Apple/iTunes, but the changes to the playlists are updated on
the iPhone when docked, so the playlist change IS being made somewhere.

Re: [slim] Net::UDAP - SqueezeBox Receiver configuration tool

2010-01-16 Thread jkeny

Noob here :)
I have struggled with this for a couple of hours now but can't get it
to work. Can I connect my SBR directly to my laptop without any wireless
network involvement? My laptop is on WiFi but the modem/router is not
convenient to my HiFi.

I tried RobinBowes standard net tool & local address variant but I
can't get SBR discovered. I've tried standard ethernet & crossed
ethernet cable between laptop & SBR.

Any help appreciated.

Re: [slim] last.fm

2010-01-16 Thread Zoltan

This seems to have stopped working for me again :-(

I haven't changed anything as far as I know.

One thing that maybe someone can help me with - what is the status of
the lastfm plugin? As I understand, it's not classed as a 3rd party
plugin so I haven't asked about this in that forum. So is it considered
part of the mainstream product? Therefore is it something I could
submit a bug about? Or is there anywhere else I could ask about it? -
it's driving me up the wall having to have a laptop on just to see who's
playing!

[slim] Help - Menus gone insane!

2010-01-16 Thread ziza

On my boom, last.fm was listed twice in mysqueezebox menu. I went
through all the setting on both mysqueezebox and sbs unchecking
everything I could think of but I couldn't get rid of the double
listing. I should add that I have a Radio and it was listing last.fm
only once. In utter frustration, I disabled and uninstalled last.fm,
using the mysqueezebox website and also sbs plug-in panel. One rogue
last.fm listing remained. Turning the boom on and off didn't help. In
desperation I unplugged it. Last.fm is gone but now I have two Pandoras!
This is occurring only on the Boom. Does anybody know what's going on
and how to fix? Thank you.

Re: [slim] Best audio format for streaming wifi

2010-01-16 Thread jimbo45

Hi all FLAC is fine

BTW FLAC is a PERFECT backup for your CD's -- you can using NERO and
the MEGA codec plugin re-create an Audio CD image should you need it
again which you can then mount as an ISO.

Gracenote etc will retrieve all the CD info just like the original --
so it's a perfect backup too.

The best way in ripping CD's to FLAC is to use something like EAC
(slower) or Winamp. Both these will incorporate tags.

I keep my library in blocks of 100 CD's -- each CD is titled and then
the tracks are written in the CD title folder.

I've ripped around 1000 CD's at the moment -- got about another 500 to
go.

No probs playing on Squeezebox duet or Squeezebox Radio -- I might even
get a "Touch" later -- but for a lot of purposes I LOVE the radio --
really NEED the re-chargeable battery however -- that would really make
the device a PERFECT piece of kit for a "round the house" system.

Cheers
jimbo

[slim] Squeezebox Server can't find receiver

2010-01-16 Thread xbalanque

hi, I've posted a similar message before, where the SB Server would only
find the receiver after a power reset of the receiver.

I tried to reconfigure (factory reset, 6 seconds button) and
reconfigure the receiver using UDAP -- I have only a SB receiver.

Now I can't make SB Server recognize the receiver. Any ideas ?

Needless to say, the SB Reiceiver is useless as it is ...

I'm running SB Server 7.4.2~29813 in linux (ubuntu). The 7.4.1 won't
install because of a requirement for mysql-5.0, the system has
mysql-5.1.

I did some tcpdump, to see what was going back and forth, and I get
things like the lines bellow (.100 is the receiver, .21 is my
computer):

# tcpdump -A -n -i eth1 port 3483

You are right. I was going to suggest making an upgrade to the IP7k
series of multimedia processors, with 550MHz and 240k on-chip SRAM, but
this wouldn't make sense for Logitech. Much better to make a clean break
to the new ARM-based platforms.

It is on the same PC.

There is no documentation on how to use this. If it is in SBS, where?
It says it cannot see the server, I don't know what to put in the

I am not sure I understand your question. Assuming your Transporter is
connected to your local Squeezebox Server on the player interface itself
have you looked in Extras for Digital Inputs?

Alternatively the left side of the web-interface also contains a
Digital Inputs entry in the Extras menu.

The third option would be to manually disconnect from your Squeezebox

Transporters setup menu.

Hope that helps

I think you better start saving your money for Naim/Linn gear for I
personally feel that it is very unlikely that we will not see a
Transporter II now that Logitech is in full control and Dean and Sean
are both gone. Logitech is in the consumer masses electronic gear
business not the high end limited production limited market segment.

Does this mean a cheap product, no it doesn't (just look at the Touch).
But I think it does mean products that will be easier to use, more
consumer friendly, more widely sold with much higher production run
numbers.

Logitech brings a bunch of advantages to the table, but at the same
time, some things must go to blend in with their overall business model.
I personally feel Transporter and the possibility of a TP II are one of
the things that will be going.

Just my opinion and hope I am wrong. And hey the SB+ is still for sell.

Well I would polish up your Linn / Naim negotiation skills.

I don't believe Logitech will ever build a unit with a few thousand
sales prospects, especially with the current limited resources. The
Transporter was a idea from a personally committed guy, who owned the
company.

It maybe that the Touch Tiny SC isn't going to be popular with the

This would mean another player based round the aging IP3K platform. Not
going to happen. If anything a new TP is going to be based round the
internals of a Touch, so even if it doesn't have a screen, it will be
SqueezeOS based. This means it can do native playback of far more
formats and can use a touch as a server. Or indeed have it's own server
with a SD card or USB stick/drive.

There is no future for the existing SB3/transporter platform. the
developers have maxed out the memory and processor power, to move
forward something new is needed, that something is SqueezeOS in the
Radio and Touch.

This isn't to say the old players are going to stop working over night
or anything like that, heck, even the original SliMP3 is still
functional (and benefiting for updates to SBS). So I wouldn't worry
about existing units.

Re: [slim] Is third party plugins/applets important for your Squeezebox purchases ?

2010-01-16 Thread toby10

A poll associated with this post was created, to vote and see the
results, please visit http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73698

Question: Is third party plugins/applets important for your Squeezebox
purchases ?

- I won't buy any more Squeezebox products unless support for third
  party development is prioritized
- I won't buy any more Squeezebox products unless the third party
plugins I rely on is supported
- I use third party plugins but I would still consider buying more
  Squeezebox products without them
- I don't use third party plugins so they aren't important to my
  Squeezebox purchases

It would be interesting to see these same Poll results in two years.
If Touch's inbuilt TinySC server is as popular as they think it will
be, then this same Poll would be vastly different with many more people
voting for "I don't use third party plugins".

Why? Because TinySC can't run any plugins. But I suppose their could
be an additional Poll choice "I'd gladly use third party plugins if
TinySC supported them". :)

ealier beta versions in 320 by 320 and had issues.

Thanks,

If the Logitech bean-counters withdraw support for plugins and fail to
produce a successor to the TP, I'll certainly jump over to Naim or Linn.

+1 here. Low development costs and high margin per unit sold for
Logitech. A lower cost, but fully credentialed Hi-Fi music player for
the rest of us.

But would the official remote for such a device have to be the existing
SBC? You can't propose a displayless Transporter that needs Net::UDAP
and iPeng to make it work, so something official would need to be done.

[slim] Good omen???

2010-01-16 Thread Ronald

I think that this is a good sign! At logitech.com, I have just checked
my pre-order status for THE TOUCH. It has been at "order submitted"
forever, BUT NOW order status is listed as " order in process"! I think
this is a step forwardwhat do you think?

Re: [slim] Bad Omen?

2010-01-16 Thread cliveb

Most of the posts in this thread discussing how the Transporter might
evolve seem to be concentrating on the user interface aspects. I feel
this is missing the point.

The core things that distinguish the Transporter are not the dual
displays, Transnav knob, 19" form factor, or possibly even the DAC. What
really sets it apart are the connectivity options and superb quality
balanced analogue output. A lot of people now use small WiFi devices
(Controller, iPeng, etc), and there is no need for the TP itself to even
be visible.

The TP's motherboard could be repackaged in a much simpler case without
the displays, knob or buttons. In that configuration it would be a sort
of audiophile version of the Duet's Receiver. Losing the VFD displays
and Transnav knob would save a lot on the BOM, and there's virtually
zero development work required - the motherboard design is already
done.

If Logitech aren't interested, then they could try to OEM the
motherboard to other small specialist outfits.

Re: [slim] Frustrated by softsqueeze

2010-01-16 Thread bpa

More info will always help.

Assuming you are using v3.9b1 and SBS 7.4.x

Do you have a real player and so verify that SBS is running OK ?

Normally Softsqueeze is started from the WebUI of your SBS. Softsqueeze
detects a working SBS from broadcats info. So if SOftsqueeze cannot see
your SBS and Softsqueeze is running on same system as SBS - I think SBS
install is broken. If Softsqueeze is running on a different system to
your SBS - check your firewalls on both systems.
