Re: [slim] DSBridge - A simpler way to stream Spotify
I do not understand this. Now all of a sudden I managed to get DSBridge to work again. And I almost only did what I have been doing over and over again for more than an hour, with one difference. Desperately I wrote "localhost" instead of the IP address in the favorite address field: http://localhost:8124. Then the server really tried to connect, and it looked like it succeeded at first, but no sound emerged. Then I changed back to the IP address instead, restarted Spotify (for the umpteenthe time) and, holy smoke, after that everything worked again. What on earth was the problem from the beginning and why did this fiddling around finally resolve the hanging? But I bet that sooner or later I will run into problems again... Spotify streams in a compressed format > already, right? So, that "extra edge" would already be compromised, > not? Aha, that may explain why I cannot get as good sound quality from my SB as compared to when I use my normal universal player as transport. I thought the lesser sound quality was mostly due to HF pollution from the wifi circuit. But now I have more serious problem again. I found out that the reason why I ran into the problem "Connect timed out: Bad file descriptor" was due to the router assigning new IP addresses from time to time. By editing the Spotify favorite every time before I tried to connect, it worked, but I got fed up with having to do this over and over again. So then I tried to allocate fixed IP addresses for all connected devices. After that I cannot connect at all to Spotify. I have cleared the fixed IP addresses again, but it still does not work, not even after powering off and on the router again. What happens is this: when clicking on the Spotify favorite, the blue DSBridge tray changes colour to green as it should, and the sound ceases in the computer. But the connecting is just hanging (the rotating symbol just going on for ever). Sometimes I have got the message "cannot parse data" or something like that. I have tried with deleting the Spotify favorite and redefined it, cleared preferences and cache etc. I have deleted the files from the Spotify directory and stored new copies there again. Nothing helps. What could possibly be wrong? This is the real drawback with Squeezebox, it is not very reliable. Something that worked yesterday does not necessarily work today... [slim] OPB.org stream keeps rebuffering?
This is weird - I know there's a few Oregonians here that listen to OPB.org's (NPR) station. I have 2 squeezeboxes - an SB2, and a Touch - synced. Using the latest 7.5.1 nightly, and latest 7.5.1 on the Touch. The link is this: http://www.opb.org/programs/streams/opb-radio.pls 1. If I play local music, it plays perfectly (in sync, no rebuffing) 2. If I play Pandora, it plays perfectly. 3. If I play net radio (Radio Paradise), again, perfect. 4. If I play OPB.org, on 1 squeezebox, it plays perfectly. ** 5. If I play OPB.org, on 2 synced squeezeboxes, it plays the promo item (10 secs), ~12 seconds of feed, and then oscillates between 0-4-8% rebuffering. ** I've tried using Proxied and Direct streaming settings, I use "The Syncronizer" plugin, I've messed with Sync settings, but nothing helps. ** HELP! ** (Yes, it could very well be an OPB.org problem, as they do funky things to the stream possibly, but then why would it work pefrectly on ONE squeezebox?) -Dan -- plympton plympton's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12955 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78826 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Last.fm recent stations
I'm unable to locate recent stations in the squeezebox menu. How to access those? Basically I'm looking for some of the options available from the http://www.last.fm/listen page. It seems like it should be under My Stations but no. Under Start A Station you can enter in an artist but it doesn't remain and is unable to be accessed later. Personally I like last.fm a little better than Pandora. I've resisted using Last.fm due to the issue above but when listening on my computer I find that last.fm does a better job of serving up songs I like. However in Pandora you can access all your stations. -- wireless200 wireless200's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11887 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78824 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Feature request: alarm duration extension
Hi, I love my Squeezeboxes, largely because of the system's flexibility, but one thing I've never understood is why the duration of alarms is restricted to only 90 minutes. The only way I've found to set a longer duration (since a recent update "fixed" a way you could get around this in the SBS web interface ;)) is to edit the conf file on the server (which does work, strongly suggesting what might be guessed anyway: this is an interface only restriction). I realise the slider that is married to this box has to have a limited run or it will be impossible to use it to select times precisely, but other than this (which is a restriction imposed by the way the UI is designed, not by any usability issue with the devices themselves), I can't see why the duration has to be restricted in this way. I certainly think that 90 minutes is too short a time: if there has to be a restriction it should be longer than almost anyone might possibly want. To get around the slider problem, there are two things that spring to mind: 1. Make the slider logarithmic rather than linear, so as it gets further to the right, the increments get larger (I've done this in the past and if you get the curve right it's very effective). 2. Pick a value for the slider to stop at (90?) but let users type any value (or a up to some larger value - 8 hours? 12?) in the text box. I have an alarm set for two hours in the morning (time between waking up and starting work). Surely I can't be the only person who could use a longer duration? This seems to me to be a relatively simple feature with no real downside and a modest but real upside. -- TheAbbot TheAbbot's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33769 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78820 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] KFI 640 AM Los Angeles
The issue is not Radio is unable to play AAC streams - it can play HTTP AAC streams such as those from SomaFM. The problem is with station which have decided to use Flash players which have the audio stream embedded in Flash. These streams (the format can be AAC or MP3) cannot be played without a special player. These Flash based streams cannot be played by any Internet Radio device not just the Logitech devices. If these streams can be played on an iTouch/iPod/iPhone then there is a hidden URL which can also be used by a SB player to play the stream. This hidden URL is an alternative to the Flash based stream. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78798 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] KFI 640 AM Los Angeles
I just returned 2 squeeze box booms to Best Buy 3 days ago and returning one Monday to Amazon. The problem is as far as I know is that the Boom will not play AAC without the computer on using Squeezebox server. This defeats the purpose of having the radio. I was hoping the Squeeze box radio would work but apparently according to you it won't. This is a shame because it is just a matter of time when all the stations go to AAC. Europe is already starting to change and here in the US they are also. A real shame. -- Leo63 Leo63's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38158 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78798 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
