Build yourself a mini pc based on an atom mobo so that you can have a real x86 cpu you be happier with the performance of SBS and transcoding between formats will work (needs cpu/fpu) . Thanks for the tip on the software vs. hardware players. Some of the errors I got on the streams were "Icecast connection limit reached" which tells me the local stations are not putting a lot of effort into providing their internet streams. I just read your SharkPlay plugin thread, that is some great work there! I was looking at using a QNAP NAS as the centre of my media platform, since this runs on an ARM based Linux will the plugin even work? Do the files have any tags in them ? Can you play them trough "Browse Music Folder" funktion ? Do you use iTunes integration or have you pointed the scanner directly to your music folder (basic page in settings) ? [slim] More intelligent suffle play?
Is there a way to get more advanced shuffle play on the SB? What I am thinking about is the following: * I have a large collection of CDs ripped to HD * There are songs I really like, songs that I am ok with, and songs I don't mind hearing once in a blue moon. * The standard shuffle/random play do not take this rating into consideration, treats all songs with equal probability. What I would like is a shuffle mode that takes into consideration my rating of a song. For example, even though only 10% of my songs are 5-star rated, I would like to hear those songs with more than 10% probability. Say 40%. Even though 1-star songs may be 50% by volume, I only want to hear those 10% of the time... I could create different shuffle mode with different profiles and threshold for the percentages Do such things exist? Really happy to see someone finally developing an app for Symbian. Thanks. My question is - how do I install QT on my N97? All of the QT links I can find seem to involve installing the whole SDK on a PC to develop QT applications. I can't work out how you're supposed to run an application that uses QT on a device if the application doesn't include the QT libraries (there seems to be a 'smart installer' system that will install QT if it's required, but the .sis file on your google code page clearly doesn't do this - since my N97 gave a warning when I tried to install it that QT wasn't installed). Bump. Does SC support playlist with filenames containing east asian languages? On a related problem, on the Touch with r9009 firmware, if I navigate to a song with chinese name and press , it will show an "empty" playlist. [slim] Much of my music is missing
Don't know what's going on, but a lot of my music is missing from the squeezebox server. It's all sitting there in my music folder, but it does not show in the server, so I can't play it over the stereo. I have cleared everything and rescanned a couple times. Most of the missing music appears to be my flac files, not sure if there is a connection or not. Using a Mac. This should work ,google and download some software for doing this. There is some nifty programs for windows that can send a WOL packages to other computers. On linux you install etherwake . [slim] Newbie SC and iTune question
If I install Squeeze Center on a Windows machine with iTune installed, will SC automatically finds music that are in iTune? I am going to setup SC for a friend. Their music is in iTune. They will be using the SB Touch. I would like to know what I need to do to have their iTune music show up in SC. I will only be there for a day. I want to set it up so they can enjoy the system and not have to mess with the setup. (I rip my music to flac and use SC to play it back directly, so I have little experience with SC and iTune.) Any pointers/tips for setting up SC with iTune on the same machine? If they add music to iTune, will SC automatically find it at the next database refresh? [slim] Music in the Bathroom
Hi there, I have a sb classic and also a radio one is in the kitchen and the other in the lounge. I've decided I want music in the bathroom too, and plan to put in two in-ceiling speakers. I'm unsure what to do though, my first thought was to have the speaker cable going all the way to the lounge amplifier and then using Squeezebox Commander on my Android phone to control it. However, would that mean that everytime I turn it on, I'm also going to have to have it on in the Lounge? My other thought was to buy a receiver and have that in the loft with an old amplifier. Would that work or would I need a controller too? If you are on ubuntu 64-bit apt-get install flac, lame ia32-libs The ia32-libs took me a week to discover, good luck! But as someone else mentioned, get squeezey. It's gapped playback and mp3 streaming, but 320kbps transcoding + 0 (highest quality) under the settings sounds great on my iPad. [slim] Music frequently pauses and eventually stops
My audio source configuration consists of 6 of the original wired SLIMP3 units, one of which is at Firmware revision 2.2 and the rest are at 2.3. The units are connected through an 8 port Ethernet switch to a dedicated Dell PC running Windows XP SP2. The remaining port on the switch connects to the rest of the home network. The system is running Squeezebox Server v7.5.1. There is no anti-virus software running. My problem is that on each of the units, the music will pause anywhere from a second or two up to tens of seconds. Eventually the music will stop all together. For example, I rebooted the PC around noon this past Friday and started everything up to where it was working okay. Using the task manager I monitored system loading and networking performance while a pause occurred. As would be expected, loading is low - mostly System Idle Process with the server taking anywhere from 5% - 25%. Network loading is also low - typically less than 5%. By Saturday morning four of the six units had stopped working. Checking the units using the browser interface usually shows the time counter for the song being played repeating a short section over and over again, although I have also seen cases where the browser shows the unit appearing to be fine although no music is coming from the SLIMP3. Sometime Sunday the fifth SLIMP3 stopped so this morning only one of the six remained working. The only way I can seem to restart a unit that has stopped is to power cycle it using the power button in the browser window. Looking at the server.log file, all I see is 999 lines that all say the same thing (with the exception of the timestamp): [10-10-04 07:31:52.9194] Slim::Utils::Misc::msg (1165) Warning: [07:31:52.9184] Use of uninitialized value in division (/) at /Slim/Player/StreamingController.pm line 867. I have tried to track down StreamingController.pm but don't find it anywhere. In fact, the only mention of it I can find is a comment in Plugin.pm that says: # bug 10612 - tell StreamingController so that play can restart Thus, I can't tell if the above warning message in server.log is related to my problem or if it's something else entirely. Although this problem is now worse than it has ever been, I have had this problem for years - across several PCs, different Ethernet switches, different revisions of firmware and different versions of server software. Unfortunately, it is now at a point that I consider the system basically unusable and I am out of ideas of what to try next. I really don't like the idea of junking what I have and trying to start over with something else for a number of reasons. Does anyone have any suggestions of what might be causing this or any tests I can run that would help narrow down the problem? Using SlimCtrl - nothing. In the status bar "loading..." is displayed, and after 3-4 seconds "Squeezebox" - thats all. Files are not MP3 but flac. Does it make any difference?
