[slim] What did I do to get all my local FM radio station in favorites?

2011-01-21 Thread mkanet

This may sound like a dumnb question, but I cant remember what I did to
get all my local FM radio stations to show up in my favorites. This is
GREAT! However, it would be nice to know what I did specifically to get
those added in case a friend would like to do the same thing on his
setup.

I like how there's support for artist and song name builtin.

Thanks,
MKANET

I'm using MyDataNest.com

Recommendations for any simple to understand file sharing service that
maintains the same URL for updated (replaced) OPML files are great
appreciated. :)

There are no differences in search categories, iPeng has an optional
search function that shows all hits in the local library immediately
(Artists, Genres, Albums and Tracks). Plus it's more readily available
because there's a permanent search entry field on the main screen.

What do you expect from a Theater View?
iPeng has three screen savers that can be viewed from a distance, one
showing the big cover art and current track details, one showing the
current playlist and one for Lyrics:

If you search this forum you will get plenty of information about both.
And a lot of comparisons have been made already here (and often come to
the conclusion, that in the end only your own taste decides).

This mixed with the available pictures, homepages, App descriptions or
YouTube videos should help you with your decision making?

Oops, yes.

Well thanks for the response, although I know my _machine_ can play
44100 Hz because I've done it. Squeezeslave also runs on the OSS device
just fine, it's just the ALSA one it fails on. And in asound.conf, the
device is defined as supporting "44100", but I'm a newbie with alsa and
audio in general.

The overall goal here is to port ss to my embedded arm platform and be
able to mix audio through dmix while ss is playing.

Anyway, thanks for your quick reply.

regards,

Rory

[slim] SqueezePad or iPeng?

2011-01-21 Thread michael123

What are the main differences between these two?

In general, I would like to see some better search capabilities than
these in Squeezebox (like searching by sample size, e.g. 24bit or
16bit)

I need also album art view similar to Theater View in J.River, or
iTunes..

At the moment, the interface I saw in sample pictures is quite
simplistic

Or..?

Re: [slim] Newbie question

2011-01-21 Thread aubuti

Any one of those three (squeezeslave, softsqueeze and squeezeplay) will
do what you are looking for. I recommend Squeezeplay, which is
available here: http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.6

Note that these "software players" usually do not sync as well as the
hardware players. There are just too many variables with sound card
drivers, latencies, etc that SBS cannot control or take into account.
Sometimes people get lucky and they sync software players well with
hardware players, but usually not. As long as the software players are
not within hearing of the other players it shouldn't matter much.

Also note that you can use SqueezePlay both as a player on your pc, and
as an additional remote control that controls other SBs on your network.
Use the "Choose Player" setting to determine this.

[slim] Newbie question

2011-01-21 Thread cpjames

Hi Chaps,

I know this has been asked before but i am struggling to know what I
should download.. I have a PC in my office which is hosting the
squeezebox server software but it would be also useful if it could be a
squeezebox client. I have seen stuff about squeezeslave, softsqueeze and
squeezeplay... which do i need to download to turn my PC into a squeeze
server client and play music from my PC (and ideally sync with my boom
and soon to be duet)..

Thanks in advance for any help! :-)

The device you're trying to open does not support 44.1Khz sampling
rate.

Is it listed in ./squeezeslave -L

Also, I assume by you mean IP address or hostname as using
a url will cause squeezeslave to fail.

correct, and to folks reading this, do double check what you get with
your internet service. I had no idea that I had a small 20MB of
webspace available with my Cox Cable account. Never needed/wanted it,
but it has now come in handy with a place to host my OPML file.

You need to open a cmd windows first as you must specify the hostname
of your sbs server if it's not running on the same machine.

See squeezeslave -h for all available command line options or the wiki.

Re: [slim] Is there a limit to the number of favourites you can have?

2011-01-21 Thread toby10

It really does work nicely. I manage these station favorites on SBS
then do the OPML upload to my online file share service.
But an FYI to others using this concept, there are some catches.

Issues using SBS to manage these:
1. SBS should have a separate MySB (or internet radio) OPML folder so
it does not mix in music files with internet streams
2. SBS displays AAC streams which I cannot use on MySB with my older
players, would be nice to filter out AAC streams on SBS as an option
3. SBS (or RadioTime via SBS) will sometimes not give accurate file
type info, where it says the stream is MP3 (or no designation at all)
when in fact it is an AAC stream

Issues uploading the OPML (not really the fault of MySB):
4. Every time I "update" my OPML file to my online file share I get a
different URL to use
5. Now I must update MySB > Favorites with the new URL

#1 is why I'd love for SBS and MySB to "Sync" this shared and
individual OPML file.
#4 & #5 are why I'd love for MySB to handle this (no URL changes)
