Wouldn't it be nice if, say, Amazon would buy the Squeezebox business ?
Perhaps we could have a solid internet service then, and a hi-def store
to buy from.
And some new, really slim again, devices.

Re: [slim] Everything is broken since 7.6 update

2011-07-30 Thread Sailorman

I have just loved my Radio - all worked straight out of the box and I
have updated a couple of times with no problem.
I am running this on a Dell T3400 under Windows XP (updated).
I connect to the Internet through a main line Canadian cable service
(Rogers - they use Yahoo); connected to the modem they supply through a
router that provides 'wireless' capability (but this computer is
connected to that router using a cable).
I run Malwarebytes Antimalware 1.51.1.1800 and Microsoft Security
Essentials.

Good news - the update did not install - I think it was 'error 5' -
anyway among the options allowed by the error message was to ignore the
problem (but advised against it) - I therefore 'retried' and when that
repeated the error message I elected to stop the update and was advised
the changes made would be rolled back (or words to that effect).

Bad news - the Squeezebox Server will now no longer start - apparently
no longer connecting to 'mysqueezebox.com' - following message under
'diagnostics-Alert': "Possible software conflict foundWe've seen
that your Squeezebox Server is configured to use a proxy server. In
this configuration connectivity to mysqueezebox.com on port 3483 can't
be tested. We were not able to successfully communicate with
mysqueezebox.com This might be a temporary internet issue, or a
limitation imposed by your ISP. If the problem persists, please make
sure your firewall is not blocking outgoing traffic."

Question - likely reflecting my ignorance as I do not know where to
look for this offending 'Firewall' - as such I was proposing to delete
everything and start from scratch. That seems a little drastic so
thought I would try this forum for advise as to specific alternative
steps / suggestions to get back my Radio to its much-appreciated usable
condition.

Can I do this from the Squeezebox itself? I see that various plug-ins
and downloads are available from the SBS computer interface but
presumably because I have the Squeezebox pointing to mysqueezebox.com
rather than my LAN, it won't download from here. Will I have to switch
to my LAN or can I just re-install 7.6 from the menu in the
Squeezebox?

Thanks,
Nick

I couldn't disagree more. My technologically-challenged family was
constantly frustrated by multiple remotes and 'universal remotes' that
weren't really universal. The Harmony One is the first device that
they have truly mastered.

I agree with the other comments that picking up a remote is a lot
easier than waking up the smartphone. As much as my family enjoys
their iPhones, there will always be a need for something like the
Harmony in our household.

[slim] Transporter IR Output

2011-07-30 Thread perose

I'm sure the answer exists but search didn't produce any meaningful
results.

I want to use the IR output on the transporter as a repeater. Do I need
to load a 3rd party app and if so, which one is recommended? Also, ill
the transporter repeat IR commands when in standby or only when powered
on?

I am using a Harmony 900 RF repeater to an OPPO BDP-83 DVD player. The
OPPO DVD IR output goes to the Transporter IR input and want to connect
the Transporter IR output to a Sonic Frontiers Line 3 IR input.

Previous setup with Harmony 900 RF repeater to OPPO to Sonic Frontiers
worked like a champ. No joy with the Transporter in the chain.

imo, RG is exactly like turning up or down the gain on an analog amp
volume knob, except the gain is applied in the digital realm, and so
less distortive.

Re: [slim] Sad day--Slim Devices SB3 just bit the dust!

2011-07-30 Thread yeomanspc

Check the power supply. I've had a few Slim Devices
(SLIMP3/SB2/SB3)stop working, but on swapping the PSU for another (from
another device) they've been ok. If that doesn't fix it, you might be
able to re-flash/re-load the firmware (can't remember if you can do
this or how on a SB3 though).

I've had Slim devices of all types (except boom) since the start and
none of them have failed other than the PSU's (got 14 devices now).
Still got 3x SLIMP3's working fine. My point is that whilst the PSU's
seem to fail a lot, the base units seem very robust. Sticking a
volt-meter on the PSU will not check it properly though - it's the
power load (current)which is the issue. PSU's can be purchased from
independent suppliers (do not need to buy a Logitech one). Sources
listed in the forums. Good luck.

Have you tried a 7.6.1 nightly build ?

As I've understood the main known issues causing part of the library to
be missed has been solved in 7.6.1 nightly beta build.
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.6

So if something else is causing the issues in your setup, and you have
the time, I'm sure it would be a great help for the developers if you
could provide more information about it.

See here for more details about troubleshooting 7.6.0 and known
problems:
