Re: [slim] What's your favorite device for remotely controlling your Squeezebox?
Having just added a controller for a 'hidden' installation, I use that, along with ipeng & the Logitech app, which is a bit more lightweight, but for the main part does what I need. I leave the power saving features off on the the controller, and so far I've had no wake up issues at all. Of course the battery life isn't great, but it spends the majority of time in the dock anyway so it's not been a problem so far. No great time lag vs IR. -- xio xio's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2382 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86866 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] What's your favorite device for remotely controlling your Squeezebox?
on tablet apps I have a understanding that you may need to shuffle the app to the foreground and wait a bit, absolutely nothing beats the speed of an ir remote and for years I always had one around just for pause and mute. I'm currently not using the volume controll in my most used squeezebox the one in my hifi. But I do use another app as universal remote, and that app is faster to reload than any of the squeezeapps, so mute and volume is avaible to me in a reasonable time,( but not as fast as an ir remote). However I find the controller design a bit puzzling, it has different cpu speeds and sleep levels all over, but it must load the full UI with visible pictures etc before responding to pause or volume ? If it just polled the pause the button even in it's lowest mode it would be much better ( for when the phone rings ). But then it have powersaved itself out of the wifi so it wants to reconect :-/ I have noticed that controller is slow and that fixed ip makes it faster as dhcp negotiation takes time even at a human scale on that device ( urgh ). The iPad is faster and have more battery it is back on the network in a much shorter time from any sleep mode dhcp or not. so yes I'm still devoted to iPeng and SqueezePad and after using them for a long time now I need both iPeng has more functions and some things I really like SqueezePad is sligthly faster for pause and skip when coming out of sleep I think ? an enhancement req for both theese apps would be to have some more visible clue to when it's ready to send a command to the server, you can look out for when the playlist jolts to the rigth track but I think they are ready sligthly before that happens. maybe grey out the pause button if it cant be used for example, it does happen that i press it and nothing happens now and then -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub. Also the 777 option is not that unsecure IF you have a proper backup. Then it's only inconvinient if you blow them away or thrash them with some other software. especially a bunch of playlists, they are a not a security risk either. Also make sure that playlist have thier designated folder, I don't know which version the plug is on now but a recent 7.6.x did not like it when music and playlist folder are the same . and no >7.6.x likes when you filter away playlist file types for the music folder, they always disapear on incremental scans only a clear and rescan brings them back. Re: [slim] Rhapsody to buy Napster
Thanks for posting this. A couple years ago I tried both Napster and Rhapsody and stuck with Napster. Both services have their respective strengths, weaknesses, and um, idiosyncrasies. I stuck with Napster because I thought the price point (less than half of Rhapsody) was more in keeping with the service quality. I'm currently trying out Spotify, and so far think it's good, but not wildly impressive. Would love to try MOG on the SB. I don't agree that Rhapsody swallowing a competitor is a good thing for anyone's customers. Or at least at this point I don't know enough about the deal to conclude that it's a good thing. I think the subscription model will surpass the pay-per-track model, if it hasn't already done so. But why is more concentration of the subscription market a good thing? If this acquisition goes through, one thing I'll be interested in from a purely selfish POV is how much credit Rhapsody gives me for the 1-year Napster subscription I just renewed two weeks ago. We'll see then just how much of an "asset" they consider Napster customers. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=90703 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

As you have probably surmised yourself, your /var partition is full. Maybe a log file ran amok and filled up the partition, I don't really know. Maybe you can use ssh or WinSCP to look around and see if any folders in /var look huge because of a lot of recent files. However, even if you clear it out you may need to undo whatever it was you did or else it will just happen again. Beyond that, I'd say you need someone who knows more about the specifics of the squeezeplug than I do. Fortunately for you, that's not a very high bar. If you haven't done so already, you may want to start a new thread in the 3rd Party Hardware focusing on this latest problem. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=90633 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Rhapsody to buy Napster
Surprised to not see a thread discussing this yet. As a long time Rhapsody subscriber, and fan of the underlying business model, I'm happy to see this happening. Granted, Rhapsody's quality of service is spotty at times -- and this likely will not be seen as good news by Napster subscribers -- but I'm happy to see a sizable alternative to iTunes and the old model of buying music by the track (or album.) I've discovered so much wonderful music on Rhapsody, I just hope they're not stretching themselves too thin here... [slim] spotify feed broken?
Hi - not sure where to best put it in this forum, so here a new thread. Since Sunday I can't get spotify to work anymore in any configuration. I have a Squeezebox Duet which I feed usually from a squeezeplug. I tried to upgrade to 7.6.2 software on the squeezeplug on Sunday. After spotify (and for a while Napster) reported only time out errors (I am using the 3rd party one, which worked perfectly fine until Sunday, because the official one never worked with my Duet, and I believe there is a general problem with the Duet), I rolled back to 7.6.1 and today to 7.6.0. Now Napster works again, but I am still consistently getting time out errors on spotify. Same happens when I use the windows squeezeboxserver, and again I tried different versions, same result in all. The timeout errors usually happen either when I try to play a song, or when I go to an artist or an album in any of the personalized parts (like recent searches etc, or playlists, or library). If I go via mysqueezebox.com, the third party spotify plugin is not available, and (like in all cases) the official spotify plugin produces filetype errors (see above). Anybody any ideas? Is the gateway to Spotify broken again (this happened before, i think last time there was an official release)? I am in the UK (London) and have a spotify premium account. No other changes to my network or anything before this started happening, and it's been working beautifully (and all the time) since spring or so. Spotify has become the major source of music in our house, so this is quite crucial for me to get working again...! Thanks for any hints! Yes, that's true...I've done it myself actually :-). The tricky part in this whole thing is that there is an iso image involved. I was assuming the steps to create the file would be generate iso image (which would be individual wave files from original CD essentially) and then convert that to WavePack.
