[slim] Radio IO not displaying track info
Hi Not sure if I have posted this in the right forum. I use Radio IO quite a bit and for some reason the track information of the current song is no longer displaying for all radio io stations? Has anyone else had this or a similar issue? It is not displaying on my duet controller or the web interface. The track info is working for other stations that provide this functionality so I'm not really sure what is going wrong, it used to work until recently! I feel your pain! Things are not so very different in my household. However I have reduced the extent of a couple of the problems: *Updating kids iThing from server:* Both my older children have access to a laptop which they use to update their pods. I have set up iTunes on this so that it uses folders in the same music library on my server as the Squeezebox (not a shared library, just "adding" folders from my SB library). My library is split into two identical halves, one with MP3s for pods and one with FLACs for squeezebox. This library is synced between NAS and a PC giving some backup protection for their iThings, and I have set up iTunes on the laptop so that when they add music from the server it keeps a local copy on their iTunes folder on the lappie. After a bit of cajoling they also let me buy downloads and rip CDs for them as I can do that a lot cheaper than iTunes, and usually a lot quicker too. My son is now getting interested in this process and has offered to take over the job! He is an intelligent lad and understands the advantages. *Wife friendly control:* My wife is happy to use the Controller, because it has "real" hardware buttons with obvious functions not disimmilar to an iPod. She simply does not get on with either iPeng on my iPod or Squeezecommander on her HTC. I have also added an extra genre tag to "her" music so that it is all located in the one menu location, she does not need to scroll through long lists of my "what's this awful racket" music to get to her own stuff. *Sync players:* Not sure what your problem is here. I have set it up so that the "choose player" and "sync" options are a the top of the home menu so that she can find them easily. Even my technophobe wife quickly got the hang of the sync option after 2 minutes of training (the limit of her patience with these things!). Easier would be SqueezePad or *shrug* the official app . You can not make Squeezebox LMS simpler it would not function properly anymore ? thus being useless . Mrs. garym also prefers the CONTROLLER. After further experimentation you are right - XBMC was keeping hold of the audio but it was doing so a bit sporadically. Turning of menu navigation sounds in XBMC fixed it. I still get the following error when playing or even listing devices however playback still works fine. We aren't necessarily talking about removing functions, I think it's
primarily about making them easier and more intuitive to access. There
are many design choices in the Logitech user interfaces that are based
on a technical or geek perspective rather then a usability perspective.
You can't just add a function as a new menu item, to make a good user
interface you need to start thinking about when and in what context
people are going to want to access that function.

[slim] Help: Squeezebox Classic will not communicate with my vortexbox.
Background of my system. 1. I use squeezepad on my ipad. 2. I have a squeezebox classic connected via ethernet into my apple airport router and network. The squeezebox is then connected via audio cables into my stereo. 3. My vortexbox 1TB system is connected via ethernet into my apple airport router and network. 4. New addition, I purchased a squeezebox radio. Prior to my upgrading my vortexbox software to 1.10, everything worked great, yet I didn't have artwork. After I loaded the 1.10 software upgrade, my squeezebox classic stopped recognizing the music source. I replaced the two ethernet cables. I unplugged the squeezebox classic and reset it to the factory settings. I then used my squeezebox classic remote: 1. Set up Networking-good 2. Connect to ethernet network - good 3. Obtain IP automatically - good 10.0.1.2 4. Select a music source - 10.0.1.7 (which is the IP listed on my vortexbox window on the my computer). I click on this and it says: Setup is complete! Go right to your squeezebox. I then click the right button. It says connecting to server... Then it says that it "Can't connect to Server. Left to go back, right to try again. Why can't I connect the squeezebox classic to the vortexbox? Both are connected to my network. I can access the files in my vortexbox via my wireless laptop so my vortexbox is on the network. I set up bliss and can change the album art on my vortexbox. The squeezebox classic is tied into the network with a new ethernet cable. Yet, why don't both the vortexbox and sb classic communicate? Would appreciate any advice... I find that info from Radio streams in general is a bit hit and miss. I had a stream I used to listen to quite a bit. It's stream would give me the info all the time and then one day it stopped. All I can figure is it is something with the stream. Like you other streams would give info and still do. Exactly. Use basic menus and have an advanced selection to expand the menus for instance. Personally I would use the advanced selection but plenty of users just want to view the basic functions. This applies to both the hardware interfaces and LMS. As mentioned previously it may also mean changing some of the selections to make them more intuitive for the less capable user. The hardest thing to do when designing software is placing yourself in shoes of the user. How simple or technical do you make it. If it's too hard then people give up and try something else. Conversely if it's too simplistic or limited then the technically inclined can get frustrated with the usability (see Apple). For Squeezebox to survive it needs more users and therefore needs to reassess the interfaces to make it simpler but at the same time not alienate the geeks, technically minded and the HiFi crowd. As mentioned previously this also would include producing some simpler hardware along side the Touch. I could be wrong but I found that with recent Spotify updates (and possibly Flash updates) that it's no loner necessary to put the dsbridge & lame files in the Flash directory - just place in the Spotify folder.
