Re: [slim] Western Digital My Cloud
Sorry for the late replies. I never did try to put LMS on the My Cloud. I planned on it, but seemed to read there's a few other things you have to do. I'm not PC savvy at all, so I like to keep it as simple as I can. I had to replace the PC I was using as a music server, so I just bought a refurbed Dell desktop with W7 and a huge HDD disc and will only have 3 programs on it, LMS, dB Poweramp, and dB Batch convertor. The My Cloud will be just a back up and a remote way to access my media. Re: [slim] Squeezeplay won't connect (suddenly)
Just curious, did you find any solution to this? Ran in to the same thing today, reinstalled my computer with Windows 7 and latest Squeezeplay. And now...well, it plays, but has Problem connecting...have tried all versions of Squeezeplay I could find (which is, seriously, not that easy), but to no luck. I hope someone has a solution to this, quite frustrating. Spotify only lets me play one song at a time so if I have two players they have to play the same thing. MOG does not have this limitation. It's a huge limitation if you are serving up phones and ipads. With 5 people in my house I'd have to pay spotify $50/month instead of the $5 I pay MOG. For $8/month I get netflix and every tv in my house can use it as well as mobile devices at the same time. The impact on netflix to deliver that content is much much higher than a few audio streams. Spotify is just being greedy. So spotify is not a substitute, nor is it a good buy. No info yet on how beats will work and then we'd have to have someone develop a plugin too. I have the same questions. They're not releasing any info at all. Maybe they'll run them together for a while, but I have to believe MOG's days are ultimately numbered. I agree. Which leads to the real nut of the question: How well will the Beats Music applications support the way I like to use the service? My most prominent modes of usage are: 1) Ad-hoc listening to tracks that I'm reading about. I mostly use the mobile apps for this. 2) Also on mobile: Pre-downloading full albums, as a buffer - but also as a reminder/favorites list. Listening from this list later on as I'm wanting to choose from records I've already selected, rather than the complete universe of offerings. Sort of a time-shifted self-curation. 3) On Squeezebox: searching for an album and playing sync'd throughout the house. I'm hopeful that the BM app (terrible initials!) will have some features that will support 1) and 2). I suspect that 3) may be a goner, unless there are APIs that a helpful community developer could leverage to bring BM into the SB ecosystem. --rt ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Shortcuts in the Playlist Folder
Hi all, I've been using a Squeezebox2 with Slim Server 6.x for quite a few years now. I recently upgraded to LMS (Win7 Pro x64) in order to take advantage of the latest greatest and, sure enough, something I totally depend on is not working. It involves being able to place shortcuts to other folders in the Playlist folder. I've always done this and pretty much have to as I use playlists for everything. When I am browsing for music, I browse my playlists which are grouped in folders (both by alphabet and very high level Genre). With LMS7.7.3 (I also tried 7.8 today), the only playlists that show up in the Squeezebox are actual m3u files, not what was in the shortcuts. When I rescan playlists from the PC, I can see it looking through the shortcut folder but everything in there gets ignored. Has anyone else experienced this? I really hope I can get it to work.
