Re: [slim] Squeezebox settings have no effect

2014-12-03 Thread Michael Herger

It is slightly as if I wasn't changing the settings for the right
device, but I don't see how it could be anything other than the one I
expect. As I say, when I select on the LMS to play music it does play
correctly on the device, just not with the correct 'Now playing'
information.

What browser are you using? Please check its javascript and/or error
console, too. Try a different browser (and let me know which one didn't
work).

What LMS version are you using?

Re: [slim] Squeezebox settings have no effect

I only have one Squeezebox and one server, so they're definitely the
ones I think. The LMS has one device listed in the drop-down "Choose
player" list in the top-right.

I checked the LMS log and there's no error messages, other than a bunch
of ones about "Artwork resize for music/c84cba7f/cover_50x50_o failed".

When I go to the player settings in Logitech Media Server (version 7.8)
on the laptop and change any settings they have no effect on the
player.

Make sure your player is connected to your new server, and you're
dealing with the player you think you are.

Check server.log file for potential error messages. Path can be found in
Settings/Information.

[slim] Squeezebox settings have no effect

2014-12-03 Thread cunningdavid

I have a Squeezebox 3 which has always had no problems up until now,
when I upgraded my laptop from Ubuntu 12 to Ubuntu 14.04.

When I go to the player settings in Logitech Media Server (version 7.8)
on the laptop and change any settings they have no effect on the
player.

Possibly the same or a related problem is that when I start the
Squeezebox playing from LMS the display is supposed to go to 'Now
playing', but it does not. The music does start, but the display sits on
whatever it was before which is usually 'Music library'.
When I start playing using the Squeezebox's remote control then the
display does go to 'Now playing' and shows the information desired.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

It runs fine in Windows, but you need to install Perl first. The
community edition is free of charge -- see

Re: [slim] Tidal or Qobuz?

2014-12-03 Thread CommanderROR

The Qobuz Plugin mherger wrote for LMS has the "Filter" option, to try
and make sense of Qobuz' weird search results... ;)
The search is also something that is often lamented in official reviews
of Qobuz and also frequently requested on the Qobuz help and ideas
board... ;)

But they do have the best audio quality...

Hm..., I just did a search on qobuz.com for "Star Trek" and got 4 albums
directly related and bunch of other somehow related, got more for Harry
Potter. I don't have access to the plug-in now (@work) to verify search
there, but if I remeber there is an option in the plug-in settings that
works for some people but it did not work for me, so I turned it off. I
also have to admitt that quite often I search on the web, grab the
release id from url and use this to search in plug in. Also, try qobuz
webplayer (and desktop if you run Windows or Mac), much superrior to the
Spotify or Tidal offering...

I will get to ickStream bit later, busy with other things.

That's surprising. I listen, almost exclusively, to classical music, and
had trouble finding stuff, in part dur to the search engine, in part due
to the catalogue. Interesting... ;)
I'm not overly happy with the Wimp Android App either though. Ease of

Maybe I should give Qobuz another go... I found it especially lacking
with film music. Try a search for "Star Trek" or "Harry Potter", that's
where ot came up almost blank for me. But my latest trial was a few
months ago.

[slim] RSS News Ticker

2014-12-03 Thread Andy Cudlip

Hi

I use the RSS News Ticker when my Classic is in standby.

I have set to 3 items per channel, but the 3 items displayed aren't
always the latest items. Seems a bit random. If the RSS feed has 10
items in it, then I want the latest 3 to display. Is there a way to fix
this?

Thanks

My experience is quite diferrent from the previous response, but that's
what you get when you ask for opinions :).

It is quite possible that this depends on the music type you are after.
My listenning is mostly classical and jazz and I find qobuz catalouge
impressive. I also prefer qobuz webplayer (desktop player does not work
on Linux even under wine, of course it should be fine on Windows).
Playlist management is much easier, for example, if you have multiple
albums in your playlist then they are clearly displayed as albums on the
top.

I tried Tidal for about a day, seen Spotify like interface and cancelled
immediatelly.

I suggest to have both for a month or two and then choose.

Re: [slim] Tidal or Qobuz?

2014-12-03 Thread CommanderROR

I've been experimenting with several services for quite a while and will
attempt to answer...

Tidal/Wimp HiFi has better apps, better search and sorting and a far
more complete catalogue.
However, they still have gaps in their FLAC catalogue (files that were
forgotten when they upgraded from AAC/mp3 to FLAC) and they are NOT
working very hard on fixing that...

Qobuz has some albums in better quality (different masters? Different
encoding?), that is something I noticed myself, and it was later
confirmed by a comparison done by some audio magazine (I forgot which
one). However, there are also cases where Wimp HiFi/Tidal sound better.

The problem with Qobuz is, they have a pretty patchy catalogue and their
apps and also search engine are not up tp standard.

So, that's my impressions for you! I hope ot helps.

[slim] Tidal or Qobuz?

2014-12-03 Thread Furry

I've recently been trying these services (aided by ickstream - many
thanks Pippin & co.).

They both cost £19.99 per month (UK), and both stream 'CD quality'
16bit/44.1kHz as FLAC.

But, Qobuz also allows downloading to buy HD albums at 24bit, seems to
have more new albums, and a larger collection.

So, I'm thinking Qobuz is the one to go for.

Do these findings correspond with others'? Any other points I should
consider?

TIA.

I've developed a plugin that let you utilise a upnp/dlna player as if it
is a normal LMS device. You can find it on github, LMS to uPNP. Hope it
can be useful
